I'm most worried about the controls now. For the shift from 3rd person to 1st person, will you have to change the way you hold your controller? Last year I remember reading something about the only kind of targeting in this game being automatic, but that doesn't look to be the case here...
To be honest, Samus is the only nintendo character that has an excuse for being mute. She is isolated on alien worlds with only hideous creatures to keep her company. She was even raised by aliens. Link, Mario, and "Red" should have learned to speak long ago.
GOTY contender right there. Honestly, I thought Other M would be a disappointment for Nintendo. With how good the game looks so far, things might actually change for the Wii.
Metroid was never meant to be in 3D, and I'm glad it's coming back to it's roots. Also glad Samus is talking. She deserves to have a voice. Every other game mascot does, why not our favorite heroine?
1. Players no longer have to be able to read. 2. Samos now talks. 3. Heavier emphasis on action instead of puzzle-solving. 4. All power-ups are mapped for the exploration challenged ("wah! I have to backtrack and look for things!") 5. Graphics look even more colorful, Samos looks even younger. Well done, Nintendo.
It just doesnt seem like metroid if it isnt 1st person? The BEST metriod game (Super Metroid) was a 2d side scroller. To be honest i was foaming at the mouth UNTIL i saw that it still has 1st person elements
Can't wait for this. I just replayed Metroid Zero Mission and am about to beat Fusion both on my Droid. Great games. I've been dying to replay Prime 1. It was the game that really turned me onto Metroid.
The first part was really confusing to me. I was like "... Wait... Is Samus pregnant?" Seriously, though, this game is going to be awesome, fo sho. I've only been a fan since the Prime series, but this makes me want to go back and play them all! Definately getting this masterpiece!
Metroid series is the best of Nintendo, there is never been a lame Metroid game... EVER. Every single Metroid game is a classic, it never goes wrong, even today the original NES title is alot of fun to play. Team Ninja is working his @$$ off on this, they don't want to be remember as the developers that ruined Metroid.
I've only been playing my Wii just for the virtual console and gamecube games cause there was nothing else on Wii that I liked. Now with Super mario galaxy 2, that new zelda game, and Metroid Other M, I'll finally play new Wii games!
Metroid Prime is my fav Metroid game (and my fav game last generation overall), loved Super Metroid as well.....but between this game and having not played Corruption yet, gotta get a Wii, and soon! Metroid is Nintendo's best series!
I love metroid, but the whole "start off super, lose all your equipment and regain everything slowly" formula has worn a bit thin. Granted metroid has some of the most fun exploring i can think of. Too bad it's on a waste of a game system...I bought the Super Nintendo and GC specifically for metroid games, i even owned the wii for metroid, but the overly-kiddy, mundane and dull offerings of the rest of the system convinced me to sell it shortly thereafter. To each their own, but I hope Nintendo tries to regain a bit of their more hardcore gamer base someday.
I know im gonna get about half a million down arrows but i honestly whish that their wernt fifteen billion puzzels in metroid it would make it an enjoyable game for me I beat fusion on the gba and that will prob be the last one I beat... The trailer looks good but thats only bc its only showing the combat side if their was a puzzle here and their fine but theirs an annoying amount of puzzels in them all
@luuuuuuuuuuke Yeah, I'm hoping for a trailer marketing thing, although the wrestling moves do worry me more than a bit. But the change of view certainly does work out when you're in a light, slow or ranged combat situation, but in a Metroid boss fight, which sometimes demand split-second reactions to hit exposed weak points and such I don't think the move can be made fast enough. Surely they made the combat already considering this slight awkwardness, but still if they weren't sttuborn on the decision to use only the remote a simple button held would be much faster, with the remote already pointing to the screen the whole time. But it may be just me, I played the Prime trilogy recently so I'm still "infected" with that gameplay style.
Wow! Now this looks like the reason I bought a wii!!! I think the change is good and the game looks really cool.It does look a little more combat focused but its for sure got the metroid feel to it.Did I also see the speed boost?I think so!!
this gane looks crazy..ok ps3 and xbox 360 move over cause we got a new b:tch in town.......so what if the game looks to combat based..thts what the wii needs right now,a nice solid action, puzzle game...i think yall complain about the combat to much..that always been metroid......
@makryu I believe that the reason it seems overly combat based is because it is a trailer and, naturally, Nintendo would like to showcase the exciting parts of the game. Also, Link seems to pull off the switch from first person to third pretty well. I think it'll work out.
So you play in third person and can switch to first person if you want, but this video makes it seem like you'll never want to switch to first person because the gameplay is so much slower. So, what's the point? I'd rather it just stayed in first person and kept the slower pace. Maybe release a side-scroller for DS or as a separate game.
That video looks pretty sweet. I will agree with makryu though it does look rather fast paced compared to previous Metroid games and I am not sure how I feel about that. However that could just be to a marketing move to get more people into the game and franchise. Either way I will be getting the game.
@ elgramtimmy I'm on the same boat as you. In addition for me; however, Metroid: Other M is taking place after Super Metroid for SNES (which is one of my favorite games), and seeing a lot of the enemies recreated in this game has just uppercutted me with a bunch of nostalgia. @ BaraChat & makryu I noticed that also. For me at least, if they take puzzles and exploration out of the picture, I would definitely be saddened.
