@b74kd3th There is a difference between having a PS3 fat, and having one of the first 500,000 units they shipped to North America...there aren't many of those that still work....and I have one of them...
@19James89 @b74kd3th Interesting thing is, most of us here have burned up the lasers on our PS3 or seen a RROD on the 360...yet out of the hundreds that we have lost, we still throw more money at the later more perfected consoles...hoping they addressed all the problems in the originals. I am fortunate that my original PS3 still works... especially when the recorded failure rate at launch was above 66 percent...
@racerxgundam I do remember Mario 64 redefining platform games...
Or 007/Perfect Dark introducing a fun ways to network up with your friends locally, a method that many other fps's borrowed from until everything transitioned online.
Every argument you make against Nintendo is valid...because Nintendo doesn't focus on simulation or realism...they make games and they focus on the purpose of entertainment. Perhaps society expects a more mature approach nowadays because of what we can do with the new physics engines that are implemented in games nowadays.
I would also like to point out, that Final Fantasy 7 was originally supposed to launch on the N64, however, with Sony's promised GPU (fmv) technology and the almighty CD-rom forced them to jump ship and exclusively design for their console. FMV opened up new possibilities and rewarded gamers with amazing video clips just for simply progressing through a video game. One could argue that had Nintendo found a way to keep Squaresoft...they'd be in an entirely different position today. Squaresoft defined the rpgs of that generation, Xenogears, FF7,FF8,FF9 and the remake of FF5 and 6, or FF1 and 2. How about Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, Threads of Fate, Brave Fencer Musashi, and the list goes on...Sony getting Squaresoft to exclusively develop for them was the best move Sony ever made...they made a ton of money off of me on those games.
Nintendo has always focused on making games fun...that is their niche, that is why people like myself buy their products. Don't get me wrong..I love the realism that games like Gran Turismo 5 and Forza 1-3/Horizon have, but I also like to lose myself in nostalgia and pure good old fashioned fun. I said it in another one of my comments in this thread, all consoles have their pros and cons and it is easy to point out the flaws of the WiiU when it lacks any real third party support.
Saying the Wii had a bad library is a debatable opinion...
The Gamecube was a decent console...at this point however, third parties jumped ship and started primarily developing for the Microsoft and Sony, as they both were the "new hot items" on the market. I'm sure Nintendo had a hand in that transition as well, since they haven't marketed hard to third parties since the SNES.
I fail to see how the N64 was a failure, in fact, I boycotted it for the longest time as a Playstation owner until I caved in because so many people had one...and loved it.
@translucent17 I understand entirely, however, I usually like to wait about 2-3 years before I start losing faith I started to lose faith in the PS3...then it became my favorite console this past generation.
@translucent17 When third parties are scratching their head as to whether or not they want to develop for you, that happens. Nintendo hasn't marketed the WiiU properly as there are many who don't even know what it is. The library on the WiiU is actually quite satisfying if you count the third party releases. What sucks about the majority of them is they were already out when Nintendo launched their console on other consoles at a cheaper price. The WiiU is young and there are 5-6 appealing titles available to keep you busy until the next ones come out. The PS3 had a really slow launch as well, so I wouldn't count the WiiU out just yet.
@translucent17 You'll probably have your Zelda game in the next year...probably would have been better for you to research the launch line-up if you expected something different...$350 is a lot of money to spend if you're in the dark about what the console had to offer.
