So, Nintendo has long been telling the public that they are trying to be different from smartphones. Never has Nintendo said they thought smartphones would stop being produced. Smartphones are surely going to go on and evolve. It's not like Nintendo is going to go out of buisness when smartphones are around.
And in many ways smartphones aren't even competition. I have tried and failed to enjoy a game on an iPhone and iPad. I cannot play Portal on nothing but gyro controls and a touchscreen. I cannot play platformers without a D-Pad. Analog sticks provide a far better experience then rubbing my thumb on the screen.
Don't get me wrong, there are games out there that work very well on a phone. Angry Birds, general RPGs, those are fine. But they all lack depth and,in my opinion, entertainment. They still can't seem to deliver a storyline and reasons to play.
This brings my next point. People claiming Nintendo is being "confusing" as the Wii U has a "tablet" for a controller. You are wrong people. If we're calling it a tablet simply because it has a touchscreen, then PS Vita is also a tablet, no?
Nintendo has combined a controller with a touchscreen, and in doing so has expanded what kind of gameplay can be achived.
@shadow_Metroid If you actually knew anything about the game, you would know that the only thing similar about the game is that it's in the same region. And even that has been changed. Specifically, half of it is frozen, and they added 3 new cities, along with other areas. It's not the same game, fool. It's a sequel. Gray version would just be idotic. Same story, same map, why would Nintendo do that instead of this?
@GhostHero333 Your in luck. You can catch pokemon such as Growlithe, Marill, Mareep, Eevee, and Riolu have all been confirmed to be on various routes in the game.
It seems that whenever somebody keeps something a secret these days, they are accused of something sinister or simply "not good". I personally think that Nintendo is hiding information to keep it's competitors from beating them out. And I don't see anything wrong with that.
Director-"Na, no ones going to play a Football game when there are already better ones out there. I got it! Let's make the athletes female, busty, and near nude, then sell the game to 8-year olds!"
I think what he's saying is that we need to stop making the violent games realistic. Playstation All-Stars and Smash Bros. is one thing. Those are cartoon / fantasy characters that in most cases can't be related to the real world at all. Something like Tomb Raider or CoD is something else. Those are games that put gamers in something that is supposed to simulate a real-life situation. And those games are supposed to be something ENJOYED. Whether you no it's real or not, it put's a message in your mind. Trust me, those games affect you.
