When Techonology strikes back

When technology fails, it really strikes with a vengeance!

Last week sometime my Back Space key on my keyboard broke and I need a new keyboard

I spent all Sunday searching for my PSP charger. I overturned the house and I still didn't find it. That goes to show how long I haven't touched my PSP.

This morning I switched on my PC only to hear a horrible, extremely loud spinning and humming noise. It sounded as if a disc was spinning in the drive except it was a few hundred times louder with a noticeably loud humming noise. I had to wait until my brother got home so he could look at it. Apparently the fans needed cleaning and there was problem with the power supply. The problems were fixed and I'm now up an running

Also this morning, I while playing my 360, I didn't notice but somehow the fan stopped spinning and the system overheated. When the system cooled, I tried again, but the fan was dead. I had to carry the system back to the store I purchased it from and they fixed the problem for me...voiding my warranty in the process.

When I reached home, tired because of all the driving and traffic, I got a phone call from the shipping company telling me my package has arrived. Tired as I were, there was no way I was going to leave my games to collect tomorrow. I went and collected them all. I currently have no idea where to start. I might dive into Assassin's Creed 2 first and see how that goes, then I'll branch out to some of the other games

Level 63 completed, Holy Hell Lv 64!

I didn't notice until I received a PM from a user that I managed to complete one of the dreaded levels here on GameSpot, Level 63. I hit that level on 11th March 2009 and yesterday I completed it. In total it took a little over 8 months for me to complete it. It might have been sooner because I'm sure I have not been hitting the max cap daily. From what I've heard and read, Level 64 is supposed to be slower than Level 63 therefore I should be spending a lot more than 8 months on this level. I honestly don't mind. Unlike the 'Big Smoke' reference, I like the 'Easter Egg' rank.

From my last blog post I supposed to be getting a bunch of games today, but guess what...no surprise to me...my package has been delayed and is now supposed to arrive sometime next week. I have a feeling it's in the country, it's just that it hasn't been processed yet.

On another stat related issue, I set a goal for myself this week because my time home is quickly coming to an end. At the beginning of the week I had around 92K gamerscore. I set a goal that I would get at least 95K by the end of the week. At the time, it seemed a impossible, but I still have 2 days for the week to end and I'm a little under 95K. Chances are I'll reach my goal today.

To be complete honest I'm disappointed my gaming package did not arrive today, but a little relieved because I can now wrap some of the games pending on my HDD.

Next week is going to be bad for me

Next week Friday is going to be a killer for me. These are the games that will be arriving:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Jurassic: The Hunted
Assassin's Creed 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Dragon Age: Origins
CSI: Deadly Intent
Tekken 6
Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberity City
Fairytale Fights
Lego Rock Band

I will be getting all those games on 1 day. The funny thing is, I would only have a little over a week to do all the gaming I possibly could because my vacation would be over on the last day in November :(...then it's back to console gaming only when I get the spare time at home...I'll start playing the portable devices a lot more., my DSi and well...I haven't touched my PSP in well over a year...back to portable gaming for me.

10 things I Hate about this time of year

I thought I should do a blog of some of the things I hate around this time of year. Year in and year out I've always been annoyed by most of these things ever since I was a child growing up.

1. Like some of you all may know, I live in the Caribbean and we have 2 seasons, a dry and wet. I really love the wet season because the heat does calm down a bit when it rains but it is often just too humid and it's sometimes just as bad as the hot climate.

2. With the increase in rain, there's an increase of creepy crawlies and they have a habit of invading my house. These include snakes, centipedes, millipedes, lizards and frogs...lots of frogs...multiple varieties. The most annoying frogs are the tree frogs which come through the windows and into the rooms. They are harmless, but extremely annoying.

3. With the increase in rain, I sometimes have to wash my car multiple times a week.

4. I hate day light savings time! Why? Because we don't use it here and most of our TV programs come from the US. Therefore all programs now start 1 hour later!

5. I hate overspending money for the holidays

6. I hate going shopping or even going out during this time. There's just too much traffic, places are overcrowded and finding a parking place is an utter nightmare.

7. The holidays always bring family and friends together, but sometimes it can get annoying when there are little untrained children running about the place making a mess that I would have to clean up later and I have little to no privacy. It's like "what does this button do?" or "why is that guy shooting the other guy"

8. For whatever reason throughout the years power has a habit of going regularly during this time.

9. All the 'birth of Christ' and Christian preaching really gets under my skin because I consider myself an atheist and I hate it when people try to shove their beliefs down your throat.

10. Delays in shipping. I do a lot of online ordering and most of the times, my stuff arrives in the country on time, but with the extra flow of packages this time of year it sometimes takes additional days to process and inspect them.

Wow! I actually got 10. I was aiming for 5 but whatever.

90K gamerscore reached + Borderlands vs Sports games

Well today I managed to cross the 90K gamerscore mark on Xbox Live. Keeping with the tradition

  • 90K - NBA 2K10
  • 80K - Comix Zone (XBLA)
  • 70K - Madden NFL 10
  • 60K - Monopoly
  • 50K - X-Men Origins: Wolverine
  • 40K - Sega Genesis Collection
  • 30K - Dead Space
  • 20K - Soul Calibur IV
  • 10K - Elder Scrolls Oblivion

I broke into the 90K bracket thanks to NBA 2K10. Now the race is on to see if I can get to 100K before my 2 year anniversary of owning an Xbox 360 on the 17th December. It seems do-able but you never know...

Next, I started Borderlands, but for some reason I'm not feeling the game. After just completing an RPG, I thought I would have really been into that game, but I'm not. I need to wait until I'm in the mood for a FPS before I can fully embrace the game, probably after Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2. Right now I'm in the mood for 3rd-person or sport games. I guess I better fire up Madden 10 again and I recently got Fifa 10 so I should start playing that too.

MagnaCarta 2 - complete! Borderlands - pending! Brutal Legend - give up!

I finished MagnaCarta 2 today and in good timing because Dragon Age: Origins is just over the horizon. Anyway, the game itself was short when compared to other RPGs. I spent slightly over 30 hours in the game and that includes ALL the sidequests and storyline. I spent maybe over a week playing it, unlike Last Remnant where I spent weeks, and put in way over 100 hours. My team was between lv 65 and 70 and I was surprised how easy the boss battles in the final dungeon were. I was kind of disappointed because once I mastered an ultimate move with each of my characters, they could tear apart any boss once I pull it off a few times. Also, not once did I have to grind for stats in the game...yeah.

Despite the short length (RPG wise) the game was pretty enjoyable once you get used to the combat system. It's kind of like a mixture of Final Fantasy XII and Phantasy Star Online. However it doesn't really get repetitive and it doesn't rely on button mashing too much. I highly recommend this game to RPG fans for the storyline. It was one of the best I've encountered in an RPG! It may have started kind of cliche (boy with amnesia, bad guy kills girl, boy wants revenge, boy decides to save world) but trust me, the way it shaped and unfolded was unlike any RPG storyline I encountered!

Now that that game is out of the way, I need to do some mopping up before I start Borderlands. First thing's first I need to complete Tornado Outbreak. I'll try to work on that game this week.

I also gave up on the 100% completion on Brutal Legend. I was missing a jump somewhere and I have no idea where it is (even though I was taking notes). After searching for quite some time, I just gave up...

Games, games and more games!

Magna Carta 2 arrived today but I'm going to hold a bit before starting it. Firstly I need to do some mopping up on some games because once I get into Magna Carta 2, I may ignore all other games and potentially forget about them.

I'm aiming for 100% completion on Brutal Legend. There are a few things I need to do to do to achieve that, namely getting everything for the motor forge (just missing all the paint jobs) and completing all the jumps (have 11 to do). I'll try to do this asap...oh and did I mention Brutal Legend is an awesome game. I'm sure a sequel for this will be made and I cannot wait!

I still need to complete Tornado Outbreak. This Katamari rip-off have been sitting in my HDD for some time now and I need to finish it. The last thing I want to do is abandon a game...because I have abandoned quite a bit last week when I cleaned up my HDD.

I pre-ordered Borderlands so it should arrive this week or next week for the latest.

The other games I'm looking foward for are Dragon Age Origins and of course Modern Warfare 2 followed by Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin's Creed 2. All other games I will patiently await reviews before making a decision to purchase this holiday season or later, early next year.

On the topic of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, I saw a segment about it on X-Play today and I have to say...WTF did Infanity Ward do with the visuals in the game! It's like they pumped it up with steroids or something because it's clearly some of the best gameplay footage I've seen to date for the 360. I don't remember the visuals being this good when they showed it at E3!

Brutally Awesome Legend!

I thought I supposed to get Brutal Legend sometime this week with Magna Carta 2, but I guess I mixed up the shipping order and it ended up arriving on Friday with Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

I spent all this weekend playing Brutal Legend and completed the storyline today and I have to say, the game was a really good one and I highly recommend it. It doesn't matter your taste in music, the gameplay itself was awesome and this was clearly the funniest game I've played.

There were some major faults with it however, and those flaws prevented it from being a personal GOTY contender. Firstly if you stick to the storyline, you can complete it in about 3 to 5 hours. Luckily you don't have to play side missions to advance in the story. Side missions are repetitive and gets boring. There were a variety of glitches I encountered in the game like driving through walls (and eventually getting stuck), floating on air and getting stuck and unable to move (both in the car and upon exit). These glitches really pissed me off. All the major glitches I encountered forced me to save and quit my game (5 times in total). Chances are if you don't plan on exploring or driving around a lot, you may not encounter any major glitches.

I still have to dive into the online and I plan to do some this week.

Sharpening the SAW

I've been trying my best to complete a few games that I've started before moving onto something new.

Firstly Halo ODST sucked for me. And I'm not a Halo fan nor am I someone who hates the series. I loved Halo 3 but ODST seemed stripped down and mediocre when compared to Halo 3. Overall it felt like an incomplete game and it was very clear to see the later levels were just padding the game's already short length. I loved Halo 3, but hated ODST. I completed the game and I'm going to sell or trade it since the demand for it is still quite high.

I started Saw yesterday and I'm somewhere in the 6th chapter now. The game is not good, but it's not bad either. It focuses heavily on puzzle solving with some combat thrown in to make things interesting and less monotonous. The game itself is a survival game, but the combat, although very bad, isn't hard and so far, I haven't been attacked by too many or waves of enemies at a time. The overall environment is hard to describe. It's something like a mixture of Condemned and Silent Hill but overall it's not scary at all. It is very gory. However if I do decide to purchase or rent this game, be forewarned, there are some very, very, VERY frustrating time based puzzles that would annoy the **** out of you because you will trying over and over again. And don't think the Internet will help you because a lot of those puzzles are randomized in the game.

I've been playing Tornado Outbreak off and on for a while now. I hope it doesn't get pushed to the sidelines further than it already is, because I'm quite far in the game

I should be getting Operation Flashpoint sometime this week, tomorrow or Saturday and next week, I should be getting Brutal Legends and Magna Carta 2. I might start both those games as soon as I get them.

I finally got Halo ODST and...

...the game sucks! I'm sorry to put it so bluntly but that's how I feel. Can this even be called a 'Halo' game? It's just a mediocore FPS with the Halo name for a quick cash in. Microsoft did the same **** with Halo Wars.

One thing that severely pissed me off was the inability of matchmaking for the game both in firefight mode and the campaign.

I'm now forcing my way through the game and it feels like a chore. I'm feeling exactly the same way I did when I forced my way through the crappy game Darkest of Days...WTF!!!

I need to start downloading demos before I buy full games from now :?
