Assassin's Creed 2, new Ghost Recon due by April '10; I Am Alive delayed

[UPDATE] Ubisoft confirms stealthy, heavily armed sequels will join postponed survival horror game on next year's release docket.

Last Thanksgiving, French publisher Ubisoft--unburdened by Turkey-gorging duties--issued a robust earnings report for the six months ended September 30, 2008. As part of that earnings release, the company confirmed that it was working on a follow-up to Assassin's Creed, which has sold an estimated 5 million units worldwide. Later rumors had the game forgoing the original's medieval Middle Eastern setting for Revolutionary France.

No Caption Provided

Today, as part of another healthy financial report, Ubisoft referred to Assassin's Creed 2 by name, declaring that it will ship sometime during the 12 months ending March 31, 2010. Given that the first game was one of Ubisoft's tent-pole holiday 2007 games, a Q4 2009 launch looks likely. Ubisoft's next fiscal year will also see a sequel to the popular high-tech shooter Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, originally released in March 2007.

"Our [fiscal year 2009-10] lineup comprises several potential blockbusters with the launch of seven franchises, including Assassin's Creed [2], Splinter Cell [Conviction], and a new Ghost Recon, as well as four license-based games including James Cameron's Avatar, three new brands, and a further-enhanced casual-games portfolio," crowed Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. "Although we have to be cautious in light of the current economic environment, we expect Ubisoft to once again be one of the most dynamic and profitable publishers in the games industry in [calendar year] 2009." Ubisoft also said it would launch four movie-license-based titles during the year, including one based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

[UPDATE] Initially, the new Ghost Recon was presumed to be a third Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter game. However, since the publication of this story, GameSpot has learned the project in question will be an all-new game in the Tom Clancy series, not a sequel to the popular GRAWs.

Unfortunately, the excitement generated by the Assassin's Creed 2 and Ghost Recon revelations was tempered somewhat by confirmation of a major delay. I Am Alive, the multiplatform horror-survival game that was the centerpiece of Ubisoft's E3 2008 presentation, "will require further development time and will now bolster the lineup for 2009-10," the company said. Previously, it was expected to arrive for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this spring.

Fix the things that gamers noted in the original Assassin's Creed and you have another winner on your hands. Ubisoft is an excellent company that has earned a lot of respect in the gaming world for its quality of game play. To stay ahead of their competition they need to continue in that vane.

The great thing about Assassins creed story line is that it can happen anywhere at anytime. Personaly I can't wait for what ever adventure they are currently working on. Ubi-soft for the most part makes really good games.... I think the only dud they published was Cold-fear but then again thats my oppinion... Other than that they always make it worth my time to spend money on a game they make. As far as G.R.A.W. 3 goes I can live without that one.... but Assassins creed two will most certainly be on my must haves for 2010.... thats if I am still alive ("GOD willing!") These games will be great on both Systems X-box 360 or the Sony Playstation3..... So yeah ROCK ON UBI-SOFT!!!!! Heres to hoping that Splinter Cell: Conviction will kick-but!!

AC2 is gonna be awesome. GRAW 3 better be better than GRAW 2 instead of another GRAW 1.5. And SCC? Nah that franchise was murdered after SC: DA, not looking forward to SCC.

God, I hope AC2 dosn't end up in France. Take it to Asia. I'm I the only one who sees the awesomeness of it taking place in a location like Japan. Ninja's anyone?!?!? I don't care that much where it takes place or when, just as long as core gameplay remains. All it needs is a new local and more mission types. Hell, they should have made some downloadable content for the first one.

Awesome news, I predict Ubisoft will not have to worry about the economy if the Big 3 (Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed, GRAW) hold there own. Like Hvac0120 said hopefully AC makes more engaging story and fixes a few minor things as well, same with Splinter Cell, shouldn't have to worry about the multiplayer cause that's always been fun. As for GRAW 3, I haven't played GRAW2 but heard it wasn't as good, either way I predict at least 2 of these titles will get 9.0/10's on gamespot and majority of other gaming websites.

I just got Assassin's Creed for PS3 over the holiday break. I think it is a fun game. There are certainly some things they can make better. I stopped caring about the story pretty quickly, so hopefully they can layer on a more engaging story-line for part 2. I'm definitely interested, but am going to wait to see where they plan to take the series and what they plan to "fix." _

Assassin's Creed was a great game. The only problems were the sometime repetitive missions and the fact that once you'd completed it, there was very little to draw you back again.

Assassins Creed 2 and GRAW3 are going to be a great ones when they are released... But... Why are we talking about games like this when there are so many currently available. I'm still playing: * GRAW 1 * GRAW 2 * F.E.A.R. * Saints Row * Saints Row 2 * Crackdown * Mass Effect ...And the thing I'm looking forward to the most is the new expansion pack being released for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto 4 in just a couple weeks!

Assassin's Creed was repetitive and the combat was lacking, BUT.... freaking amazing ground breaking graphix and environments for us to explore. Improve the combat and I'm all for it.

Can't wait to see how Assassin's Creed 2 turns out. The new setting should be pretty cool. Revolutionary France? What a cool setting. Just put some more variety into the game than what was in the first game and it will be excellent.

Assassins Creed was great , sure it didnt have lot of replayability except to get all the achivements but it was great nonetheless. If you dont like this type of games dont play them and leave your dumb comments someplace else.
