@Cloud_imperium @Supabul @gufberg AAA games on steam are often very (several years) old, and the sales are erratic. Let's say I want GTA VI from steam, I have to spend $20 right now or wait for a sale that may never come. I can get it on consoles for $12. Boom!
I've used OnLive, but the response time was not reasonable in twitch heavy game play like FPS. It was fine for slower game like real time strategy, RPGs, sports, driving, or hack and slash games. Not a bad compromise, but first person shooters are the games Xbox is generally associated with.
I have no doubt that both consoles will have long and successful lifespans. I can't imagine many will walk away from their choices with buyers remorse.
"We want you to be able to choose the hardware that makes sense for you." Valve, that is called a PC. There is a reason this kind of thing hasn't worked in the console market.
This isn't really anything to overreact about. It is just an incidental outcome of Microsoft's HDMI in port, not some desperate stab to make the XBox One relevant.
