@Dark_sageX: I've already beta tested the Gear VR. You obviously haven't tried VR. I can tell by your stupid comment. That's why the Oculus pre-order is backed up till July. Just look at all the reviews and video reactions for yourself, they aren't fake impressions...err I mean yeah you're right. VR is a gimmick.
Don't get it. Stay away from the pre-order site. We don't need fools who never tried it visiting the page window shopping and slowing down my pre-order process. Keep up the idiotic assumption that it's going to fail. I'm really glad there's a lot of people like you. I mean that.
Adams previous comment about always online did make him look like a douche, but it's nice to see him become humbled by the backlash. We've all done stupid things and said things we regret, and lets not kid ourselves, nobody here are angels themselves, but it takes a lot to swallow our pride and admit when we do something wrong. He had no job, a bad rep, and no idea if he would ever be able to work again, and the loyalty he's showing to Oculus now is the result of his humbled lesson and gratefulness to have another chance.
Having said that, I still don't like exclusivity. I'd like for everyone to be able to enjoy something regardless of what system or device they own, but this is a business after all and we just need to except the fact that there will also be exclusives in our world of competitive money market.
I'm going to be a complete dick and and say I'm really glad so many people are upset about the price and can't afford it, and loving the haters that never tried VR, because I do not want to go through another internet breakdown like the Oculus day one launch when I was pre-ordering it.
So please please keep thinking VR sucks and not worth the price and stay away from the pre-order page so I can have a smooth transaction when I buy the Vive also.
@myfingerreviews: You can only play PSVR games on the PS4. All games made for PC are playable on both the Rift and Vive, but not any consoles. So you can play games bought for Vive on Steam and play on the Rift, and you can buy games for the Rift on the Oculus store and play it on the Vive. You can also play most games already on the PC now like GTAV, Fallout trilogy, Skyrim, etc on the Rift if you buy the Vorpx software that turns normal PC games into VR.
You can not however play any VR games made for PC on the PS4 or Xbox One. You can however play Xbox One games on the Rift but it won't be in VR. It's just 2D games that you play in a virtual room with a big screen tv.
@reavern: I'm going to have to disagree with you here as well. Everyone, not just Gamespot, was taken aback by the $600 price because Palmer Lucky had everyone believing the Oculus Rift was going to cost closer to the $300-350 range. Even he himself apologized for the poor communication.
As for the Vive, Valve has said right from the start that it was going to be a premium product with a price to match from day one. Even after the $600 price announcement for the Rift everyone knew that HTC Vive was going to be more expensive. In fact rumors went around that it was going to be $1,000-$1,500, which actually made the $800 price a nice surprise, especially knowing it has more features than the Rift, full room scale, and includes 2 motion controllers.
Both prices are no doubt still very expensive, but they are reasonably cheap considering its tech. I have already pre-ordered the Oculus Rift and will be getting HTC Vive as well, and my decision had nothing to do with any of the articles from Gamespot.
@nyadc: So what if he has a lot to say? Of all the things I see people complain about you want to hate on someone for having an opinion and supporting his claims?
Seems like you need to get laid and get out more yourself if that bothers you this much.
@Slannmage: You are the first person I know to have tried VR and hate it. I work in the Air Force with hundreds of people and have taken my Gear VR to work to show it off and every reaction were nothing less than utter mind blown. They even went out and bought it the same day right after work.
As for myself I love it more than any gaming experience I've had, and I own every single gaming system and handheld since Atari 2600. The movies in VR are very immersive and porn definitely looks in your face real. The games are the only thing a bit lackluster but that's what I expect from something powered by a phone anyway, but they are still enjoyable.
@Iemander: Well you are entitled to your opinion, but so am I. I just find all the games for the Wii U geared too much towards younger kids for my taste. I use to love Mario Kart but on the Wii U I wasn't having as much fun as I remember on the NES. Also bought Bayonetta 2 which I loved the first one, but again couldn't get into the sequel. Many other Wii U titles felt "meh" as well. The system has been collecting dust after just a month of playing it. In fact I had already put it back in the box and thinking of selling it.
I already pre-ordered the Oculus Rift on day one and plan to pre-order the HTC Vive and the Playstation VR as well. I'm not saying $600 and $800 is cheap by any means. In fact it's a butt load of money, but that price is dirt cheap for VR. I have spent far more money on vacation trips and gotten a fraction of enjoyment than I get from experiencing virtual reality.
Lets put the value of enjoyment I get put into perspective base on money I've spent...
My $1,300 34" ultrawide 3440x1440 Samsung monitor = Enjoyment value rating 9/10
$3,000 custom built computer with EGVA 980Ti Sli, i7 5820k 4Ghz cpu 16GB DDR4 platinum corsair, Asus x99 Deluxe motherboard, 1,000 watt Fractual Design power supply. Enjoyment value 10/10
I am 41 years old and have been gaming since the Atari 2600 days and owned every system ever made including all handhelds and I give all those previous gens a 10/10 rating. Maybe I'm just getting old but I find the new generation of consoles to be lackluster. But let me tell you I have never been mind blown by anything this good, and I've only seen VR on my phone, however it's by far given me a better experience than anything on any console or computer to date. I can't wait to see what the power of my computer can do when I get my Oculus and Vive HMD.
