It's all going to depend on what the target audience wants. And the target audience for video games is mostly teenage-young adult males.

So does this audience want to play as a young male protagonist, or do they want an aging, grizzled mom in their game, lol?

I mean, really...do young males really want to see moms in their video games? I think a lot of young males play games to get some time away from their parents, lol.
