@darkvaper The difference: UE4 is more than a fancy tech demo. For anyone interested, this is a real-time walkthough of UE4, its graphical features, and developer features: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOvfn1p92_8

@Victorious_Fize "I really can't see how PC is able to play games that can't even run on the PS3 without requiring a higher set up then yours"

Then you are obviously out of your element, aren't you?

@cjimrun The real hidden beauty of modern GPUs is not what they can do for visuals, but what they can do for everything else in a game. General purpose programmable cores can facilitate significant improvement in AI, a host of scripts, you name it. Sure, those x86 cores in your CPU are fast, but they're no match for a massive pool of parallel cores. But, it's up to developers to use 'em.

@doc-brown The way I look it, if you're playing on a hi-res screen, then aliasing shouldn't be much of an issue, so a minimum number of passes should suffice. If you're playing on lower res screens, then the hit to performance from higher levels of AA shouldn't be too much of a problem. As I said, there are situations where FXAA is fine, but it's definitely not "the future" of gaming. Or perhaps I should say: I hope it's not. Then again I'm not a fan of DoF, which everyone seems to love, so maybe I'm part of a fussy minority.

@Victorious_Fize @richarrj My secondary rig with an 8800 GT (which was not the flagship card at the time) from '07 can play almost everything on at least high settings (which says a lot about the stagnation of PC graphics, but that's a discussion for another day). Where is your god now?

FXAA is trash and a step in the wrong direction. If you're playing a dated game with poor textures, sure, go for it. Why anyone would destroy a HD game with FXAA is beyond me. It simultaneously defeats the purpose of anisotropic filtering.

Reminded me of FF8 and PocketStation.
