Regardless of what system you own or what your position is on this I would just like to see someone develop games other than another FPS or saving a damn princess

@Silverbond Fine, what's so great about this little kiddy game of yours, hmmm? The story line (tons of games crush the weak, repeated storyline)? The Gameplay (maybe ya it's a great platformer, I guess I'll admit I'm biased on this one, but I hate platformers)? The power-ups (Same power-ups we've seen in previous Mario installements, how original. Oh what, there's 2 or 3 new ones? Yup typical Nintendo rehash of an old game with new features)? The kiddy-ness of it (I hate the whole trying to be cute theme it has)? And besides, you're trying to defend the Wii with only 1 game?

@trastamad03 Nintendo, like Activaision is KING of marketing. plain and simple. Of the top ten highest selling games of ALL time only two companies make up the ENTIRE LIST!!!!!! I have every consoles, a million games, 60,000 xbox gamers points. you know how many of the top ten I have even played. 2. TWO GAMES!!! and I HATE one of them. the games are terrible. they are simply marketed well. what are they? Modern War 2 (only one I like) Black ops. terrible overaated game. gitar hero and a few other horrible rhythm games, and a bunch of boring Wii games. NOT even Mario and Zelda. Stuff like Wii Exercises and Wii sports. not even real games. just cheap crap. how many crappy movies out there make billions of dollars. why? becuase they told you to go see it and you did. its 100% marketing. I fall for it sometimes. we all do. I bought black ops, but at least I have enough self awareness to admit that the game is not nearly as good as the MARKETING says it is and defend it with my last breath even though I dont belive what I am saying. that is most nentendo fan boys IMO. defending something because they dont want to admit to themselves the truth.

Yeah right. It's the Wii sheep who keep giving everyone thumbs down for stating the truth. The Wii is overpiced just like the 3DS and has had a piss-poor lineup of games for quite some time. Skyward Sword and 'DQX' isn't cutting it. Nintendough made enough cash off old tech so now is the time to price the Wii at its intended price of $99.

@inaka_rob I don't wanna get in another long argument, so I'm just gonna say that you know what you're talking about and I disagree with your position on this subject.

@Silverbond not at all. I support PC gaming for the most part, but I right now I am console gamer. I argue with PC gamers all the time that PC gaming is doing okay, but will eventually fade into nothing. PC and console gaming will basically become 1. Console are far too close to PC levels of performance. Have you seen crysis 2 on the 360 or ps3. Its amazing. Battle Field 3. That looks real. Sorry I dont need a 2,000$ crossfire set up to have amazing looking games. I think after the NEXT generation of consoles, we will only have streaming games like we are starting to see now a little bit. Even stuff like Xbox DLC and PC`s Steam service. we are starting to see a melding of gaming. We are also seeing more and more PC games go console becuase the hardware is basically exactly the same, easier to program for, and becuase of that you need less powerful hardware to do more. so... When I can battlefield and it feels like I am their choking on dirt and getting my ear drums blown out by a tank shell that blew out the building behind me or I play shift 2 and it feels and looks so real I cant stop leaning my body when I turn my car becuase the game tricks my brain into thinking I am actually there. When the wii can do THAT I will buy one. Its not about the graphics. its about the immersion in the game. That is as much about graphics and sound and programing, everything else that go into making a complete experience.

Too bad the price drop isn't for the red Mario Wii.

The downside is that there are still very few games worth getting.

@trastamad03 Believe me, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are that great. SMG is one of the highest rated games on Metacritic of all time, so it's not just me or Gamespot that recognize it's quality. I also loved your assumption about me getting suckered into Nintendo's "rehashes"... the Wii is my first Nintendo console ever. Yay for projection, amirite? And again, I lol'd at your complaints about the game. You hate Mario's yells and yahoos? Really? I'm not even gonna comment on those weak (really, really weak) complaints.

If you don't own a Wii by now it's because you don't want one. The price drop is cool though, but who is this for? Everyone I know either has a Wii or has no interest in it. My Wii is somewhere around here fending off rabid dust bunnies.

@Silverbond If it's so great how come I got so bored of it after a while. It's a typical Nintendo game. Same mechanics as a previous game but with added features. Hardly anything to call GOTY. Same with Zelda, Metroid, Smash, Kirby... every single franchise. People like you keep getting suckered in by Nintendo's cheap rehashing and milking of it's franchises. I even bet you own all the DS-es. You want me to say what I hate about the game, fine, I hate the controls, I hate Marios annoying yells/yahoos. Levels become repetitive, collecting the little star jewels, oh right it was in the first one too! Typical Boss fights with pretty much using the new thing you learned from the world and applying it. No thanks.

that's good but there still hasn't been any good games for the Wii lately.

Next gen wii rumors ARE true, they wouldn't be coming from so many sources if they werent. What's unknown are the specs. Should be a good show this year if MS can get some good stuff to show too.

@Silverbond GOTY 2007... We're 2011 now... 4 years behind. Mario? Really, the overly milked franchise that's the same thing over and over again with a slight twist. No Thanks. And sure, back away from the argument, you know I'm right but it's hard to swallow it, isn't it. Sure the Wii was great the first few years it was out, but it's been getting nothing but shovelware and rehashes.

This almost confirms the next gen Wii rumor true.

@Silverbond Uuuhhhhh or how about the fact that there's nothing good on the Wii. PC and PS3 have a better selection for me. Less games that use motion sensing gimmick. Also my Wii is clean. It collecting dust means it's not being used at all. The way you're trying to defend Wii makes it seem like you're...... A FANBOY! :O HERETIC!

Interesting bit of news, indeed, but I think I'll give it another couple of months until E3 and see what Nintendo does/says then. If it drops to a buck-fiddy like it's been rumored, then I'll consider finally getting one. (especially if the new console will be a couple of years off) Not quite ready to pull the trigger just yet....I'll wait a tad bit longer. ;)

@YearoftheSnake5, uhh, no, the gamecubes cpu is clocked at 202mhz but it can go up to 500mhz, the ps2 has 32mb ram, a 755mhz cpu that can go up to 800mhz. the psp is the same cpu as the ps2 and the psp has 64mb ram so the wii is basicly a ps2 with motion stuff. oh and dont even get me strted with the graphics cards!

No thanks still, especially with an Wii 2 looming.

@inaka_rob Since it is clear you don't like gaming on outdated hardware, I assume you are a PC gamer? Because heaven knows, the 360 and PS3 can't keep up with today's technology.

@Silverbond no graphics are not EVERYTHING. but when the WORST looking ps3 and 360 games look years better than the BEST wii game... then even if graphics are only 25% of the equation. that is big deal in my book. Even the worst HD textues look better than the Wii antiquated graphics technically. can it even do bump-mapping and anti aliasing? Stuff that we saw on games as early as Halo 1 on xbox 1?

I wonder if this gives merit to the 'new console' rumour...

@trastamad03 Uh... you're still doing it wrong. 1) You're supposed to clean your systems so they don't collect dust. 2) If you aren't using your Wii, you are doing it very, very wrong. Like, extremely wrong. You should fix that so that you aren't doing it wrong anymore.

I might consider selling my Wii. It's been collecting dust for 3-4 years already, and I do not intend to buy anymore sequels of game franchises which hardly interest me at all. No offense, but the PC has ever genre desirable, including the more niche ones, like strategy/tactics games, simulators, visual novels, and adventure games. Sure, there may be some games from these genres found on the PS3/X360/Wii, but very few. My PS2 also could use another owner when I haven't been using it very often at all, save for whenever my cousins come over, and it's rare for that to happen nowadays. The console wars have been pretty tiresome, anyways.

I might buy wii after waiting 5 years.

@heznave The downthumbs are not going to people who question Nintendo. They are going to people who are rude and insulting. Sure I wish the Wii could play DVD's, but I never missed the feature. In fact the Wii is where we stream Netflix to so I guess it works out in the end. The Wii is not a joke, it is a different kind of game console. If Nintendo had gone for trying to outrun the other two consoles on horsepower alone, it would have gone Dreamcast in a year. As it looks like the Wii will be retiring in a year or so, and will stand as one of the most financially successful consoles ever. The Wii has outlasted all the criticism and those crying "gimmick" for 5 years. Show the Wii some respect.

Nothing new. I've noticed BestBuy dropping the Wii price for $20, making it $179 quite a few times this year in their weekly ads. A $30 price drop is probably temporary prior to the actual $50 price drop this June. I guess Wii2 is indeed around the corner. However, $169 is STILL too pricey for an "11 year-old" console.

I bought this at launch not knowing it would be a casual console. Worst. $250. I. Ever. Spent.

@Cwagmire21 Very true... I think Wii's success is based on the casual/facebook gamer type crowd. The way people play and what people expect from "games" is different nowadays :|

And I still don't like Wii. But on the topic this pretty much assures that the "Wii 2" is inbound. I hope it's more core friendly...

@guitarist1980 I'm glad there are some members that can accept that the Wii doesn't cater to the "hardcore" gamers that visit this website and by Nintendo going after people who rarely or never played games, they have sold truckloads as a result. I can understand people not liking the Wii, but you can't deny the success it has seen this generation.

For those of you who are bashing the Wii, saying the price should be lower, at least put the dollar sign BEFORE the number you think it should cost. NOT 100$

LOL @ Nintendo dropping the price because of Wii Sub-HD. Retailers are dropping the price because they know Nintendon't can't compete. Wii has had a gaming drought since DKCR came out way back in November. PS360 are getting all the 3rd party titles while the Wii gets what again? Nintendo should just bundle it with their last good exclusive Skyward Sword and the overpriced Twilight Princess for $170 and call it a day.

These stores should include a $30 gift card with the console. Wheres Walmart at on all this? Hope they were in the loop.
