PSP price drops to $170

Cool, Nintendo will probably counter the move by dropping their price...maybe after they see how Pokemon does in the sales chart. Otherwise, NICE, I was about to get Daxter yesterday. Kind of wished Loco Roco dropped in price too, but I'll take what I can get. I wonder what will happen if Nintendo drops their price to 99, PRICE DROP WAR!!!! One can dream.

That's still not enough of a drop. $150 sounds like a more reasonable price for a 2 year-old handheld with no good games.

How could anyone not want a PSP? Its sexiness alone was enough to make me buy one, its the IPOD of the gameing community, nintendo wants to come out with a new version of there gamboy every other year and want people to buy it, maybe if they actually do somthing thats actually up to date i might consider it but just putting the same old technology inside a different looking case every other year isnt enough to sell me, well im sry they did add a touch screen which i think was already done on something called a blackberry.

i got a psp last year for 180 quid, thats around 250 dollars but i got tekken and gta vice city with it. i think that was a good little deal

I bought the DS for 249.99 and really wanted to like it. I bought socom even went online with it which was alright, then I bought a si-fi racing game and mlb 06 within a year but there was something about the ds with having the better games so i gave in and got it for Christmas and I can see why its outsold the psp.

I might consider getting one now since the price is dropped. I been wanting to play MGS: Portable Ops since it came out. Plus with FF VII: Cirsis Core coming out soon, PSP will be getting a lot of sell.

I still want a PSP, if only for stuff like MGS: Portable Ops and Lumines, but the price is going to have to drop to about $150 or less before I'll pick one up.

I'll still wait to get one. I am just interested in homebrew and none of the games interest me to the point of me having to buy it. I have my ds for my portable gaming needs :) oh well, good luck sony on selling more psp's.

Maybe the next price drop i might get one... but the DS is doing it job very well so far...

Well,I got my PSP in 2005...but my friend was planning on buying one...so it might help.

with psp sales down 72%!!! last year, sony is finally pulling quite the smart move..... especially since it was outsold five to one during the christmas season. if i see some better games ill pick one up but i couldnt care less about its other features since my ds is setup to do music and movies and due to the fact that the battery life is about as long as the lifespan of a pizza at a weight watchers convention.

i dont understand how the psp has been selling bad...on every sales update every month, the psp sales 100,000+ ....i didnt think that was bad....also psp is a dope handheld...put your fanboyism aside, and jus pick one up..or atlest try one out..im sure u will like it

i'm shocked Sony would lower the price because the PSP is worth the full $199 price. Atleast now that the manufacturing of the PSP's are done in China, they are able to afford the price cut. Save those pennies and buy yourself a game now with your PSP purchase. Enjoy!

man, tons of DS fans are screaming in pain right now.. yeah, that's those with "too late" in the comments. ;) 25 million units sold, with God of War and Crisis Core coming out this year. Just remember what happened to PSP vs DS sale number when Monster Hunter 2 came out. it will be 10 times better when Crisis Core comes out. Let's get it on!!!

Yay, it's about time. Sony usually makes price drops 1 1/2 years from launch so two years was really long but also we'll likly see a price drop again by Xmas too. I love Sony gaming products

The PSP is solid. I'm glad they are making it cheaper. Now if there was more online play games, they miiiggghhhttt have a chance to eat into some of the DS marketplace.

hope this drives more sales...PSP is the better system, but the sales just don't show for it :S Also, it's a homebrew and hacker's dream!

ill say it again 20 million units worldwide in two years is not bad for the psp. the ds just sold way better. I expect this price drop to help them sell a little better but it wont help them takeover the ds. IO have both and i like the psp more.(im only keeping the ds for pokemon. I have a question for all u ds fans out there if the psp and ds had launched at the same time and at the same price would the ds still be winning.?

meh... "modest step-up in PSP unit sales" indeed. I wouldn't expect much, the PSP is getting dominated by the DS right now. Sony needs to get more (and better) games out if they want to sell more PSPs.

I would consider getting a PSP if the price was $99.99 for a core or $149.99 for the Value pack. It would be nice to hook it up to my Ps3.

That should push things along a little, but even I am starting to lose interest bar MGS PO :P (I just got my PS3 though!)

Eh, I cannot think of a single reason to own a psp. 99 bucks I'd at least consider it, till then, there's hardly anything I even raise a smirk of intrest in.) Metal Gear is about it.

This is good news. Although I got mine about 6 months ago, I am glad that I got mine when I did at $199 (with a free game). I got a lot of good use out of my PSP during that time, especially as an MP3 player. I have used it for pictures and limitied web browsing as well, but not for movies yet. I need to get a bigger memory card, as I only have 1/2 Gig card for now. I hope the lower price will encourage a larger user base, and as a result, more high quality games. I don't think that PSP will be able to come close to catching up to the Nintendo DS, but are laying the groundwork for the PSP2.

I have always said it and I will say it again... The PSP is awesome awesome awesome technology for the price... The new price point is even better... If anyone buys a new PSP, check ebay for great deals on 4gb memory sticks.
