In April you'll get to shoot people, then shoot zombies.

Microsoft has unveiled the two games it will be giving away for free in April as part of its Games with Gold program for active Xbox Live Gold subscribers.

For the first half of the month you'll be able to download Hitman: Absolution, IO Interactive's attempt at resurrecting Agent 47. It might not be as celebrated as fan-favourite Hitman: Blood Money, but the most recent adventure of arguably gaming's baldest hero was well-received by critics: GameSpot awarded the game a score of 7.5 upon its release.

From April 16, until the end of the month, Microsoft will be offering up Deadlight, Tequila Works' zombie adventure set across a beautiful 2D landscape.

The two games follow on from March's offerings, Civilization Revolution and Dungeon Defenders.

But what about free Xbox One titles as part of Games with Gold? Phil Spencer, the previous boss of Microsoft Games Studios who emerged from an executive cocoon today as the new Head of Xbox, said at the start of February that we would hear news about that soon. It's almost April, Phil!

Meanwhile, over in the blue corner, Sony has announced that PlayStation Plus will be dishing out Mercenary Kings, Batman: Arkham City, Stealth Inc, A Clone in the Dark, Castle of Illusion, Velocity Ultra, and Pixeljunk Monsters Ultimate HD in April.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Gamers are some of the most entitled people in the world. Kinda sad actually. People don't complain this much about internet and cable prices, and they give you nothing for free. Imagine a gamer getting HBO for free. But I wanted showtime, thanks for nothing!

At least you own the games once downloaded. You dont rent / lease the games which means when your PSN subscription, the game installs are dead weight. People need to realize and make this distinction. Xbox LIVE gives you free games while the PSN leases / rents you games that become unplayable once your subscription is out. So in reality the PSN doesnt give you any games ever. It just rents them out to you on a conditional basis

NO GAMES ARE FREE. NOT ON XBL GOLD; NOT ON PS+. You have to PAY for BOTH services to get "free" games.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Yet you Xbox gamers have never said anything about paying to use the multiplayer half of your games that you paid full price. You paid full for half a game while renting the other half. Where are your complaints about that?

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> which Sony is now doing on PS4...so what's the argument? A half a game at 60 today is several times more in content than the 60 dollar games you got in 1991. I'd say that us gamers are getting pretty good deals today.

lol...You don't own anything Digital. If you did, Microsoft would allow you to play these games on X1, or Let you download them for free on the X1 when/if Microsoft starts to import 360 games over, which doesn't look like it will happen if they are looking into a streaming service similar to Sony.

let me ask you this.

Lets say, two years from now, when both Sony and Microsoft fully abandon the PS3 and 360 (it will happen. They did it with the PS2 and the Original Xbox) and you can no longer access the PS3 and 360 servers and your 360's hard drive dies. So you think. "i'll buy a new hard drive!" guess what? You can't get those games back, because they were digital and you can no longer access the 360's Marketplace because is shut down because Microsoft is now fully supporting the X1 100% now.

So yeah. You don't own anything digital. keep thinking you do.

I mean, what if I had an NES, Geneses, SNES, and any CD based game, and the games broke...guess what...I can't play them anymore and I'll have to buy them back. That is exactly what you're saying.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> sony and Microsoft had to abide by their contract and terms--if sony says this game is free to ps plus subscribers as long as keep membership going then they have to keep it available to the subscribers--- as for your ps3 or 360 dying the odds of ps3 or 360 not being available anytime at all in future--at least in our lifetime--just buy a used one and redownload the game onto it---

I forsee that both sony and Microsoft will keep their servers open and expanded to keep these games available--- as for console not being available get real --consoles out ther back to nes and super nes are out there to be found

If you don't get to keep the games that you basically rent for ps+ then isn't it the same as block buster or any other rental service like Gamefly.(This is an actual question not just someone being a troll lol.)

<< LINK REMOVED >> Yes, except that it is long term and that you don't pay more if you download more of them, so it's really not that similar to renting services. It would be more comparable to Netflix. Once you stop paying for Netflix, you cannot watch anything anymore, but as long as you keep it, you can watch whatever you want, whenever you want.

Last month it was - Games With Gold never gives out anything good.PS+ is way better than Games With Gold.

Now it is - Only two games PS+ is way better than Games With Gold.

People never stop complaining about FREE games that you actually get to keep.

@westcoastwillam Not really.

Arkham City's pretty old, and they gave it away in Europe back in 2012

No complaints though, its a good game
