LA Noire Switch Download Doesn't Fit On System Storage

Even the cartridge version requires a huge day one update.

LA Noire is coming to Nintendo Switch in just a few days, but you may have some difficulty in playing the game if you don't own an SD card. The Eshop version of LA Noire for Switch comes in at 29 GB, making it too big to fit on the console's internal memory.

The Switch contains 32 GB of storage built in, but Nintendo states "6.2 GB of internal memory is reserved for use by the system." That means you'll need to buy extra storage if you want to download the 1940s detective game to your Switch.

Now Playing: GS News Update: LA Noire Switch Download Doesn't Fit On System Memory

The cartridge version, meanwhile, needs a 14 GB day one update. The patch contains "required gameplay data as well as general bug fixes and improvements." However, the physical edition of LA Noire for Switch is apparently more expensive than the digital one.

For comparison, Bethesda told Rolling Stone that Doom's upcoming Switch port has a campaign and arcade mode that "fit on a 16 GB cartridge," though the multiplayer mode is a separate 9 GB download. We don't yet know how big the total game will be if you were to purchase it from the Eshop.

Nintendo's own games, meanwhile, tend to be much smaller in size. Super Mario Odyssey's download version is 5.2 GB in total, while Splatoon 2 is 3.1 GB and Arms just 2.2 GB.

LA Noire is Rockstar's first game for Nintendo's console. It's coming to the hybrid device on November 14, alongside new PS4 and Xbox One versions. For more on those, check out some 4K LA Noire gameplay.

32gb yea sure people keep thinking Nintendo is a major threat to Sony and Microsoft when they keep making the same mistakes. Nintendo is too cheap to invest expecting the consumer to upgrade in the upcoming months. Enjoy the minor success while it lasts Nintendo. Next year people will be once again bored with Mario and Zelda and the Switch will be just like the Wii U without any 3rd party true nex gen games.

@burnedandfrozen: People say that about Mario and Zelda every year. Funny how it still hasn't happened yet.

@brandsome: What, you're not gonna comment on the lack of anything but those handful of age old Nintendo brands that keep getting rehashed until the end of time? At least when Nintendo still owned Rare they had new and creative games coming out. But those times are long past.

@Atzenkiller: Arms and Splatoon are both pretty fun games. Not the "handful of age old rehashes" as you put it.

And those age old rehashes are still better than most other games that dropped this year IMO, (the only non-Nintendo games that came close for me this year were HZD, Nier and Nioh, and I still think Mario and BoTW were better games).

@aross2004: Well, that's just your opinion mate. Keep playing the ever same games, whatever floats your boat. At least you admit that there's nothing else besides some mediocre crap that the Wii already had plenty of back in the days. Fun for a few minutes with friends, sure, but that's not the kind of games I'm interested in.

When the game doesn’t fit on a card then ok, but when it would fit on a 32GB one than that’s not cool....

Feel sorry for those Switch owners who thought going all physical would be fine. Purchased a 200gb SD card with my Switch to avoid these kinds of problems. Also, I didn't want to have to worry about carrying cartridges around with me. Its amazing having access to my entire library at all times. The developer is really shooting themselves in the foot with this space issue though. I don't know how this will affect sales, but the item descriptions should include this information as a disclaimer.

Nintendo on Switch release:
"But... but.... 32GB is more than enough! The games play directly from the cartridge and dont need to be installed like the other consoles or have a very small install files!"
Nintendo now: "Just go buy an SD card... it should be good for like... 5 games!"
Soon Switch owners will not only carry a case full of Nintendo cartridges, but a case of SD cards too. :D

@hughesyboozy: Nope, I had SD cards just laying around. No need to wait on playing some of the best games that dropped in 2017.

And you don't need a "Switch branded" card, most MicroSD cards work.

I don't understand why they would re-release this game with a 14gb day one patch? I get that they have 'deadlines' to meet, but come on now, they shoul dhave delayed the game and had all of that data on the cartridge at a later launch date.

@Phazevariance: The article didn't mention the physical version's size so it's probably just too big to fit everything on the cartridge. Which makes it more of a mandatory install/download than a patch if you can't even play the game without it.

@Phazevariance: I think the problem may be that Nintendo may not want to make 32 GB cartridges yet due to manufacturing costs, so they force publishers to split content between cartridge and a download, which is silly tbh (By the way, the download seems not to be just a patch, but rather game content, if I am not mistaken). I was looking forward to this game on switch for its portability, but by looking at this kind of stuff I will go for the XB One version.

@hughesyboozy: Well if there are already 32 GB CARTRIDGES for switch then why are the developers releasing physical games that need big downloads of game content? Surely this entire game is less and 32 GB, the same could be said of NBA2K18, and Resident Evil Revelations Collection for which RE:R2 has to be downloaded completely.

@nazart81: All the more reason for developers on switch not having to resort to making the final consumer download a huge portion of the game that they are supposed to be buying in physical media, I'd say.

Takes away from the just pop in the cartridge and go feeling. Probably not an issue for gamers as they will know what's up but could be disappointing for casuals and kids who don't yet realize they will need an SD card

@zero_juice: Um the console is supposed to be a portable video game system meaning ALL games should be portable! That would be like saying the 3DS is a portable game console but from now on the games being released will have huge updates making it not portable. What kind of nonsense are you spewing?

@zero_juice: just like pausing it on any other console yeah ? or the vita which also has the "suspend" mode, by putting that into "rest" mode mid game, except the vita didn't deliver many of ps3 like this and other titles, the switch is and more such as doom (ps4) even if its running at 720p.

Its a great game and im glad its on the switch.

Yeah, Nintendo and their small memory for storage... I did not forget the same problem with Fatal Frame V in the Wii U...

Get with the times Nintendo! You dont belong in the 80's and 90's anymore!

So it's either a 29gb digital download onto a card you have to buy, or you buy the cartridge but still need to download 14gb and store that on your internal memory too?

Dude.
