LA Noire Switch Download Doesn't Fit On System Storage

Even the cartridge version requires a huge day one update.

LA Noire is coming to Nintendo Switch in just a few days, but you may have some difficulty in playing the game if you don't own an SD card. The Eshop version of LA Noire for Switch comes in at 29 GB, making it too big to fit on the console's internal memory.

The Switch contains 32 GB of storage built in, but Nintendo states "6.2 GB of internal memory is reserved for use by the system." That means you'll need to buy extra storage if you want to download the 1940s detective game to your Switch.

Now Playing: GS News Update: LA Noire Switch Download Doesn't Fit On System Memory

The cartridge version, meanwhile, needs a 14 GB day one update. The patch contains "required gameplay data as well as general bug fixes and improvements." However, the physical edition of LA Noire for Switch is apparently more expensive than the digital one.

For comparison, Bethesda told Rolling Stone that Doom's upcoming Switch port has a campaign and arcade mode that "fit on a 16 GB cartridge," though the multiplayer mode is a separate 9 GB download. We don't yet know how big the total game will be if you were to purchase it from the Eshop.

Nintendo's own games, meanwhile, tend to be much smaller in size. Super Mario Odyssey's download version is 5.2 GB in total, while Splatoon 2 is 3.1 GB and Arms just 2.2 GB.

LA Noire is Rockstar's first game for Nintendo's console. It's coming to the hybrid device on November 14, alongside new PS4 and Xbox One versions. For more on those, check out some 4K LA Noire gameplay.

Sony Vita had the same thing. Came with a 4GB card. And 2 downloads. And Amazon also offered two downloads. Guess what? Can't fit the 4 games onto the card. In fact, you could just fit the Vita's 2 games on, and 3 or so small Indie games at best. Their card basically made the system unplayable for downloads. You get a few games, that's it. Oh, and no internal storage. Cartridge or downloads onto an SD Card.

Now look at how well Vita's doing.

@atherworld: The Vita also had weak support even from Sony and was treated more like a 2nd screen for the PS4 more than a successor to the PSP.

@atherworld:

I'm thinking the difference here is that Vita was proprietary and cost extortionate amounts just for 16gb storage coupled with no system storage, while the more logical comparison would be the 3DS which also required storage used MicroSD.

Now look at how well the 3DS is doing.

Another genius move by Nintendo. In an age where 1TB is slowly becoming the norm, Nintendo literally throws us a few breadcrumbs in storage space. It's like Wii/U taught them nothing.

@atherworld: It's a tablet, I don't know many that would sell at that price with more space than the Switch. Maybe they could have made a "hard drive" in the dock so that you could play big games while docked, and smaller games on the go, but even that seems weird.

The Wii was still in the same generation as the GC/PS2/Xbox, so it's somewhat understandable. But the Wii U had no excuses. It wasn't even on par with PS3/360 space wise.

The Switch is a handheld that displays on TV when docked. I don't know why people still treat it like a home console. Big companies just use it as a portable PS3/360, and it shows with the ports. Or games that are not too demanding (DOOM). It'll either get games specifically made for it, ports of previous gen, or current gen games that are not too demanding (smaller studios' games, or slightly downgraded current gen games).

Pretty embarassing for Nintendo.

ORRRR they actually wanted to tap into the fans' nostalgia even more by making them have disk space issues, like back in the 90s.

I will wait for a Switch with a bigger internal storage. Not many games out yet anyway and 32 GB is ridiculous.

First thing I got with my Switch was a large SD card. Not to mention you can switch them easily and no formatting is needed. I don't see the issue if you got a decent case with the capacity to carry the cartridge games and SD cards.

@Sorrow_316: The issue is, you shouldn't have to buy an SD Card. Will the next system require you to buy the controllers separately? Isn't that ridiculous? To buy a system in part and piecemeal?

@Sorrow_316: It's not that there's no way around the issue, it's the fact that it's an issue in the first place. A 29Gb game shouldn't be an issue in 2017, not for a gaming console at least.

@livedreamplay: No matter how much Nintendo advertise this as a "hybrid", I'll treat it as the successor of the N3DS. It has no chance of seriously competing against real home consoles. And that's why i got hyped for it too.

Not a Nintendo home console, but a handheld that can display on TV without extra trinkets (like the GC with the GBA player), and that is quite powerful. I don't see Nintendo changing Switches too soon.

They could release more powerful Switches over time, or release a real home console since the GC.

@veryDERPY: I was about to reply when I read the second line you wrote. Exactly, if in 2017 you've made a console that can't handle a 29gb game, you've made a bad console...

Just once, I would like to see Nintendo make a system that actually matches the specs of others. 1080p, 500+ GB, etc... I just don't get why literally every single console they make is behind the times in one way or another. I'll start with the N64: Used cartridges and required batteries for rumble. GameCube: Mini DVDs that held a fraction of a regular DVD. Wii: Wasn't HD and only used DVDs when everyone else had Blu-Ray or HD DVD. Wii U: I don't even know what to say there. And now the Switch...

@frosty988: I find that what Nintendo does with their consoles is pretty brave. Most of what Microsoft and Sony do is build a different box, stack stronger components in there, change the name a bit, different OS. I've enjoyed my switch so far, and it never hurts to have an innovator on the market. The switch can do 1080p and with the eventual release of SD card(s) you can reach 500GB with one or two cards.

@Sorrow_316: How is it brave to do what they did here? 32 GB is a joke, nothing else. I shouldn't have to buy an SD card to download ONE game.

I don't get why Nintendo won't give us more storage. Like 32 GB? What is this, 2005?

I'm also more surprised though by how much storage this game needs. You're telling me games like BOTW and Mario Odyssey are smaller than a remaster?

@xenomorphalien: Textures. BotW and Mario have textures like "the color blue" or "the color red". Meanwhile LA Noir uses actual textures with fully rendered and voiceovered cut scenes with higher def audio.

Nintendo really should have shipped the system with at 128 gb of internal storage or included a SD card in the box.

I praise that LA Noire is getting their game in cartridge format. I had problems playing the original game. Another Rockstar game which burned out my laser when I played it, that's why I liked the idea of LA Noire on Switch. It's a shame there's still problems with something over the physical median of the game.

Further Proof as to why Nintendo is awful at hardware. They really need to get out of the hardware business since they can't do it right.

The crazy thing is it is already $10 dollars more over the Ps4 hard copy version. And it still a download.

$50 dollars for what is basically a PS3 ports is insane anyway.

Stop buying these gimmicky consoles and Nintendo would follow SEGA and make Mario and Zelda games for other systems.

I hate having to buy a New Nintendo just for a few games.

Just reminding everyone, 3DS, Vita, PSP. The three most recent handhelds all needed memory cards also. With Switch that makes the last 4 handhelds released.

So there's nothing new here.

At least, unlike Sony's handhelds the Switch doesn't need proprietary cards. Have you seen the price of Vita cards..

I ended up pre-ordering it on Switch basically to just be a +1 to the publisher to say, "If third-parties support the Switch, we'll support the third-parties!" I would hate to think that Rockstar would never consider bringing another game to the Switch because no one bothered to buy L.A. Noire for it. Plus, it also helps that I had savings at Best Buy and was able to get it for 26 bucks. I own the original for PS3, but never opened it because I never got around to it, but there's just something about the Switch that makes playing games fun and exciting all over again.

@barcaazul: I wasn't saying it's embarrassing from a selling standpoint, if Nintendo manages to sell so good, hats off to them. To compare specifications to an android phone however, when they claim to not only be a mobile device but also a home console, that's pretty bad...
