EA's Humble Origin Bundle offers Dead Space 3 for $1

New pay-what-you-want bundle allows you to set your own price for Dead Space 3, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Crysis 2, Medal of Honor, and Burnout Paradise.

The latest Humble Bundle, the Humble Origin Bundle, allows customers to pay what they want for six EA games.

No Caption Provided

Customers can pay a minimum of $1 for Dead Space 3, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Crysis 2: Maximum Edition, Medal of Honor, and Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box. Those paying above the average--$4.74 at time of writing--will also receive Battlefield 3 and The Sims 3: Starter Pack, which contains The Sims 3 and expansions Late Night Expansion Pack, and High-End Loft Stuff.

All games can be redeemed on Origin, and everything but Battlefield 3, Dead Space 3, and The Sims 3 can be redeemed on Steam.

At time of writing, the Humble Origin Bundle has so far made $3.2 million. EA itself is taking none of the money, instead opting to give all proceeds to charity. Customers can choose to allocate their donation between five charities: Human Rights Campaign, Watsi, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, American Cancer Society, and American Red Cross.

All of the games require a Windows PC, with the exception of The Sims 3, which will also run on Mac.

The Humble Origin Bundle will be available until August 28.

@arqe Mostly the fact that Steam works and Origin doesn't.

If you want to leave Battlelog open for 5 days without playing a game, and then you try to join on your friends, guess what happens. You don't join the game, despite the fact that Battlelog is running in real-time and you're logged in. No, you have to log in to Origin AGAIN, and then relaunch battlelog, and then connect.

Guess what happens if you leave Steam on for 5 days and don't do shit, then launch a game? IT LAUNCHES IMMEDIATELY.

Combine with that the fact that Steam has absurd sales, Valve doesn't nickel and dime its customers do death and in fact has a legion of people working on Steam to make it the best experience possible, and there is EVERY difference.

EA's entire library isn't even on Origin. Valves is. They went to the effort of putting legacy games on Steam. Where's BC2? Where's 1942 or any of 250 other EA games on Origin? No where. That's where. BC2 is on Steam, not Origin, that's where.

Origin is pig shit. Everyone knows that and if you don't understand, you don't belong on PC.

@arqe Steam is great. origin and uplay are pale compared to steam. but I never hated origin. I played EA games on origin even though they exists on steam and ubisoft games on uplay even if they are available in steam.

For remaining games I use steam.

@ACWH You can increase your existing donation, and get BF3 and Sims3, through "My Account" in humble bundle.

Great sales on Origin? EA donating to charity?

WTF is going on? Did I wake up in an alternate universe?

@northArrow The article neglected to mention that the "charity" is the golden parachute of John Riccitiello.

Im playing through Dead space 3 right now. It's actually a great game. I do see why a lot of people were disappointed though. It doesn't have that horror feeling from 1 and 2. Nonetheless it's still a intense game.

@marcheegsr It could have always got by without extreme horror. It's sci-fi, so it only needs to be a little bit horror. Since it's interactive it's too intense for alot of people. It's not like watching Prometheus.

It's good that it is all going to charity. Bought the bundle yesterday. Redeemed the steam codes, can't redeem the origin codes yet. Servers are getting hammered.

A few million people are going to get this because they never bothered to get Battlefield 3 on Origin, and I'm one of them. You have to admit, it's the best possible PR for Origin, and EA knows it.

Well it's a great deal but I kinda hate that the once "Humble" Bundle has basically sold out to the big boys.

@amaneuvering This is actually a big step and very surprising that EA would agree to this. To have their games sold for any price all for charity is very unlike them.

Like they're just doing this out of the kindness of their hearts and not 100% for the Origin publicity.

@Stebsis @amaneuvering

The Humble Bundle used to be about giving the little guys, the indie devs, a chance to get their games out there and make some money.

Now it's about making deals with the big boys, probably being paid directly by EA for this (it would be naive to think otherwise), and promoting games that really don't need promotion at all.

Once again the enlightened PC gamers reap the benefits of a bountiful harvest. Meanwhile the unwashed console gamers revel in overpriced filth.

@SrebX @WantYouBad The idea is that people use the honor system and don't sell off keys and pitch in money when they can.

As long as the games all have their own keys then you are able to in theory have different people redeem them.

If you already owned a few of them then you can give away the spare keys.

Great deal, and all to charity, although since it involves origin there have already been a number of screw up. Of course their servers were once again unprepared for the initial onslaught and code-redemption was unavailable for a few hours (no such problems redemeeing the same games on steam though) and now they've kind of given out the wrong codes for the Sims 3 pack, but at least they've admitted that mistake and are "working" on it.

@GeneralMufinMan It certainly is a great deal, no doubt about that. I was waiting for a price drop on Dead Space 3 for a while now and I'm glad I waited.

On the second matter, all I can say is that if this is how they're trying to convince us to accept the "always online" and "digital is the future" bulls**t, then it's really not going to catch on a lot of people.

Best deal I've seen. Unfortunately the checkout has as a result died and EA is apparently fixing it.

Can finally see if Battlefield really is as good as people say on PC.

It's a great deal, but I already have the games I'm interested in, except for perhaps Mirror's Edge. EA not taking a chunk is generous of them, although some would probably say EA has a hidden agenda with this (lure people to Origin, tempt them to buy DLC for Sims 3, BF 3 etc.).
