I'm surprised nobody mentioned Empire At War.

I don't know about it's expansion, but that was a very interesting strategy game. There was also some older Star Wars strategy games, but they were mostly Age of Empires clones and uninteresting. However, there was a 3D version of a Star Wars strategy game before there was Empire at War, and it had very interesting features that ended up being used years to come in new games.

Kotor 2 is probably my favorite Star Wars game so far though.

Pod Racer was incredible as well, just a totally different genre.

DroidWorks was very interesting and taught concepts of physics better than most colleges does.

Pit Droids was a very nice puzzle game. Unfortunately, it didn't get any attention whatsoever.

There was a Naboo city building game which I forgot the name, and that was the best Star Wars city-sim we had. Confusing at first, it proved to be a very satisfying safari experience for those who enjoy these kinds of stuff. Better than most zoo games that's for sure.

Star Wars Battle for Naboo (I think that was the name) had plenty of Star Wars vehicles to pilot. It was nice to see such variety.

Rogue Squadron 3D had amazing space battles.

My personal top 3 of best StarWars games ever:

1. TIE fighter (You're fighting for the Empire rather than for the Rebels which is a nice twist, the storytelling was fantastic and the secondary/secret missions during missions added longevity and challenge). Plus it was a tough game, quite hard to beat all missions with every aspect completed.

2. Dark Forces 1 (First StarWars based FPS ever made and a damn good one at that). It showed the way of the mission/storydriven FPS game like nothing before. You weren't collecting keycards anymore but you'd infiltrate a prison to free a defector, you'd board Imperial craft to acquire data, you'd sabotage enemy operations etc. And the Dark Trooper was a truly ferocious new enemy.

3. Jed Knight 2 (First StarWars FPS game to have a really deep lightsaber systematic behind it). I loved it to bits, we even ran our own server for it where we'd walk around with lightsabers swhitched off only to activate them when someone would challenge our presence :) Best kill I ever made in that game was by wallwalking a round pillar, coming around 180 degrees and slicing my opponent with one hit to the head.

I really enjoyed the Jedi Outcast games but I spent 100's or hours playing Empire at War with my buddy in a LAN game. I can remember a lot of EPIC moments from that game that I haven't seen since.

The X-Wing/Tie Fighter Series, Jedi Knight or KOTOR - The New Battlefront is better than the old ones but just isn't as good as it could be so I can't include it in the list.

@ltjohnnyrico: I agree about Battlefront. While I liked the first two, some seem to think they were awesome, when they were mediocre IMO, but Star Wars none the less. I think the new one is best, but still not as good as it could be.

Kotor 1 and 2, Jedi Knight 2, Battlefront 1 and 2 and Republic Commando are the best Star Wars games I have played I think. The all time best is either Kotor 1 and 2, and I am leaning towards 1 as it is the most memorable for me at least.

@Mercaptan: I liked it. In fact I still play it from time to time. The story was great, and I thought the gameplay was very good. I know many had problems with the gameplay, but I enjoyed it very much.

The second one was pretty bad story wise, and voice acting wise. And the boss battles were bad.

So disappointing when these "kids" went blank and silent after Danny asked "Anyone ever play the SNES Star Wars games?"

The three SNES Star Wars titles were amazingly done marvels for their time, offering some of the most entertaining side-scrolling I remember on the SNES with a solid musical score.

Sometimes these guys came off as smug(NEVER Danny though) when they described the games they liked.

And rly? nobody played there played Rebel Commando on PC either?? except for Danny. How is this panel at all authorized to comment on the best Star Wars games.

Props though to them for giving due time to Jedi Knight and its offspring.

@crimsonllama: My point was their age doesn't preclude them from picking up a SNES on eBay and playing those legendary side-scrollers AS PER RESEARCH or at the very least -- owning a SNES!

LucasArts game lovers already know about the Super Star Wars games and naturally seek them out; clearly those two or three chaps are not.

@kozzy1234: spot on. KOTOR 2 is probably my favourite ever Star Wars thing. Morality in that game was an amazing mechanic but I think that's why it can annoy Star Wars fans as the main stuff is very binary; very good vs evil. My character had high darkside alignment through doing things "for the greater good", like using a mind trick to get criminals to kill themselves. The nuance was unlike anything I've experienced before or since.

Star Wars Galaxies was fun even though it had nothing to do originally lol.... They changed the game so many times over the course of its short life its hard to judge really. I reviewed it though, and it was enjoyable & had a good community.

BF2, KOTOR I, KOTOR II, Republic Commando. Nuff said. Had to EDIT because excluding Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy is sacrilegious.

Here are mine. Resisting the urge to bash eyecandyfront....oops

Republic commando was a good one. My only objection is that the PC port could've get better graphics.

Rogue squadron is another one I love and propably the first ever star wars game I played.

Battlefront 2 is the oddball. I enjoyed it but, I never actually played MP.

Outcast and academy. When you had cheats that allowed you chop up your enemies with a lightsaber and toss them around with the force, you know you have one of the best. I will even go as far as to call them a jedi simulator(Surpasing even force unleashed).

KOTOR 1&2 not only opened up a whole new story in the SW universe, but they were the first to put star wars in an RPG. Great characters, great story and great gameplay. To top it all of they were not an MMO(oh yes, I did)

I played more, but they were mostly prequel trash, like episode one tie in, jedi power battles and gungan frontier(racer was an exeption, but I didn't played enough and clone wars on PS2 which was decent). The only non prequel SW crap I played was the utterly broken force commander.

@PETERAKO: I agree in what you said about KOTOR 1 and 2, great games great characters (except for T3-M4 i dont like droids, and the quest in which you are forced to use him), and i definitely think the same about both games not being an MMO.

@kenundrum7: I wouldn't say you're in the minority... That game received a lot of much deserved praise at the time. It wasn't perfect but it did a lot of things no Star Wars game or show/movie ever did which I adored. Like being neither Dark side or Light side but in between...and using AMAZING force powers; I mean sh*t, I want one of the new movies to have a scene where some super strong Jedi force pulls a Super Star Destroyer into a planet from the surface! That was effing badass. And the way you could just lift a bunch of stormtroopers and toss them into the abyss. It also allowed use of different lightsaber colours and light effects. You could have a grey/white or even black lightsaber that kept flashing and what not...It was amazing. If they could modernize this game into an action rpg...IMAGINE how amazing that could be...

@Raphy_Turtle: "force pulls a Super Star Destroyer into a planet" cool concept but I found it really annoying because every time you started to pull it down you'd get attacked by TIE fighters and it'd start to move back up. Also it was kind of annoying that you never really felt OP other than the opening mission a Vader. I get that the game needs to keep challenging the player but there should have been a level where you were basically a god. Oh... and QTEs!

With all that said I actually did really like the game and have been mulling over another playthrough.

@Raphy_Turtle: I appreciate what you said. It seemed to me that most players pooped on this game upon release, and I was glad I didn't listen to those nay sayers.

It is one of my favorite games of all time.
