Zombies are not possible.NEVER possible. They are just mythical things similar to werewolfs and demons.I am a med student and have studied a phenomena called rigor mortis ( it helps determine how much time has passed after death ).What happens is that after death , the muscles become SOOOO RIGID that it becomes difficult for us to even move a finger of the body let a alone a zombie can do that..AND THIS HAPPENS TO EVERY MUSCLE OF THE BODY....so yup no zombies .....

@callsignalpha I don't have to study medical science to explain how its impossible for zombies to exist. Your "rigid muscle" statement can be countered by something like "zombie transformations involve chemical reactions where the blood composition is changed, and thus unlike uninfected corpses, theyre muscles dont stiffen up blabla". An actual fact that busts the theory would be: A zombie's body has no blood circulation (especially if large chunks are missing), hence their muscles don't get the energy to move. Since there is no circulation, they cannot digest anything they eat (even if they did nutrients cant be sent across the body) hence no energy source, no movement (muscle, heart, brain etc.), no zambiez..

@CDsmasher All I am saying is that its the best way to explain that they are not possible but then again they are just for fun and a creation of the mind. Suppose your theory is correct : Then why dont zombies in The Walking Dead or RE series die out themselves after a few months..................... :) its just a work of the mind.... AND WHY THE HECK IS EVERONE HATING ON ME...just because i said that i was a med student :(

@callsignalpha @CDsmasher Uhmm... why are you giving examples of the walking dead and RE? The "theories" you and I are bringing are about "why zombies dont exist in reality" so why are you giving the walking dead and RE as an example? O.o xD No one is hating on you mate sorry if my comment came out that way. I just meant to say that someone doesnt need to be a med student to understand that its all a flawed fiction, and anyone with a brain can think of it :) Not trying to say something like "SO WHAT IF URE A MED STUDENT?! IM SMARTER THAN U" if it sounded that way haha.

And yes, thats what I'm saying. Even if somehow miraculously a newly turned zombie had a supply of energy in its muscles, it wouldnt last more than a few days, not to mention dehydration (can go on and on forever haha).

@callsignalpha This guy needs a rod removing from his behind, stat!

The point of this video is not to determine their legitimacy as a real-world creature, just our fascination with them. Most definitions of the term zombie mention the supernatural or witchcraft as an explanation, but thank god we've got a medical student to reassure us with common knowledge.

Maybe you know an engineer that can explain to me why I'm wrong to like Iron Man.

@PlatinumPaladin @callsignalpha I think you just came out from under a rock somewhere in Haiti after 2000 years. In case you noticed , we were discussing the scientific aspect of these things not the voodo aspect. And as i said before I cant really explain this thing here so I just "Reassured you with Common Knowledge" so you nut sized brain wont have difficulty in processing it ................

@callsignalpha @PlatinumPaladin "We were discussing...?" Indeed, Cam's video was talking about the scientific aspect of gamer's apparent fascination with zombies, not the validity of whether they're a real-world entity. You were the one who decided to chime in with "I'm this, and I know this, this, and this. FACT!" How moronic do you think we are? Given that a big part of the zombie myth was inspired by Vodou, my comment about the supernatural is entirely relevant as I was responding to your comment. It's not something I would've learned living under my rock for two thousand years seeing as Haiti hasn't even been around for four hundred you pillock.

Seeing as you're so wrapped up in medical facts I'm impressed you're able to bring yourself to make a joke about the size of a person's brain. Surely you're dying to correct yourself. Dying and not coming back as a zombie, of course. That's MEDICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. FACT!

@callsignalpha Still, and since you are a med student, I'm surprised that your information is incomplete: Rigor mortis starts after a few hours after death but begins to dissipates after around 50-60 hours. Presence of RM only determines that the person died between 3-4 hours to 50-60.

Which area are you specialized into?

@Warlord_Irochi @callsignalpha Dude ! After 50-60 hours the body itself starts putrifying and decomposing...Rigor mortis doesn't dissipate in preserved bodies like the cadavers found in dissection halls. And about the death thing...Rigor Mortis is the primary phenomena used to determine the time of death..It also depends upon the position of body ................ I haven't specialized in anything yet....just doing MBBS

@callsignalpha The plural of werewolf is 'werewolves' get it right! :p

Also there are chemical processes which could prevent rigor from setting in. Besides that, it is entirely possible that one could suffer a virtual 'brain' death but leave it functioning just barely enough that the rest of the body processes are maintained. Such as is common with certain varieties of coma patients.

@zenstrata @callsignalpha sorry for the mistake , made it in a haste :) ........... Dude I cant explain the whole process here plus I don't know of any virus or reagent that can prevent rigor mortis or even delay it.Its bound to happen , even if you preserve the body .And about the virus thing. At least I haven't heard of any virus that 1)PREVENTS RIGOR,2)ALLOWS THE BRAIN TO FUNCTION AFTER DEATH 3)MAKES YOU EAT FLESH AFTER DEATH 4)MAKES YOU SOOO ANGRY THAT YOU WANNA RIP APART EVERYONE AROUND YOU.The most popular belief is that rabies is the closest thing to a zombie pandemic..No its not..What happens is that that after appearance of symptoms, the virus takes control of CNS and then when he drinks water , the throat muscles have a SPASM and the patient cant swallow. There are other symptoms but this one is the most prominent. And then 1 week...maybe 2 weeks later the patient is R.I.P............END OF STORY

Just saying, ...for real, IM JUST SAYING.

It's easily conceivable that whatever "virus" infects us that turns us into a zombie also has evolved or has a way to stop rigor at a chemical level or something. You one hurdle (I suppose) is constantly overcome by in such ways by nature, the same way (simply put) creatures become immune to prey venom for example.

I think zombie games are made so that over the top gore can be enjoyed without feeling guilty. I usually don't like doing Fatalities in Mortal Kombat because it just seems cruel to do terrible things to a vulnerable human being (or human being like creature).

@faizanhd There's probably a "switch" in my brain that separates games from reality even when it has similarities. It avoids "guilt" to some extent, and lets me have fun and laugh of the unlaughable(if it was a RL situation).
That also goes for some movies, my movie meter is defined by how much(how strong) the movie makes me feel emotions, be it sadness or joy.

Humans are on top of the food chain. But beeing eaten alive is a very distinctive and old natural fear. That's why they are appealing to us.
On the other hand they are not classified as human beings. Game developers can let you kill thousands of em without getting problems with rating boards.
--> perfect match for video games

I think they're okay as a bonus mode on shooters or games like dead rising are fun, it's when game developers will put zombie modes in their games just to try and attract people to buy their crap games, that would be the problem haha.

The one thing I hate the most about the zombie theme is that this genera has HUMILIATED the military. Most of the zombie games or movies don't provide a reason why Militaries of the world ( which are technologically sooo advanced ) fell in the face of this apocalypse.

@callsignalpha@Liferipper I don't think it's that simple. Because you can't get the job done like that.

It makes you sound stupid to write "POINT TO BE NOTED" or "Owned". Like saying "you know" after every sentence.

Is it to created fear or dominance? No matter; it's an artificial attempt. A weird gangsta mentality. Think about how you sound.

The last of us proved zombies are still scary,

the walking dead proved life gets cray when zombies run a stray

Some things in life are scary for a little while and then they are not, i shit my shorts when i saw snow white as a kid, but these days i just piss myself occasionally. I always thought of zombies as harmless until i considered their effect on the world. In video games this gives people the chance to experience the idea of loss and loneliness we might never feel in our cushy bean bag chairs of the future. i consider using them in games like Aslan considers to exist. They are good but not tame. If to many people use them carelessly we find a careless view of the spleen splattering action. Zombies and their apocolypses will always have a place in my heart as the most freaky ass bullshit way to live a life, and a reminder that its just awesome that i can eat a baconator naked on my porch in the moonlight whilst i listen to Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune.

Kick-ass show Cam, U top dog.

The science of this is dubious at best, annoying at worst.

In a good zombie game or TV show/movie, zombies are actually a secondary. The main thing is the Zombie Apocalypse. Think of the first episode of the Walking Dead. The first element is loss.

We lose our friends, our families, our civilization. This has emotional resonance. In the Last of Us Joel loses his daughter.

After this loss we have the next phase: attachment. We hook up with Ellie. Lee finds Clementine. These are human bonds that are rebuilt on the adventure, just like the way the protag of the TV show of the Walking dead loses his wife but bonds with his son.

In World War Z the zombies are hardly seen. The key is trying to retain sanity and decency in a world gone wrong.

A specific example: in LOU when I kill a zombie I shrug and move on. When a team member shoots himself in the head I feel emotion.

desensitisation galore, but zombies are still a good excuse to make games ultra gory. i honestly believe devs and publishers are afraid to step out of that comfort zone since the brutalness would not be ok anymore.

slicing up some zombieflesh with a chainsaw? yeah that's so PG-13. slicing up an humiliating actual humans? NC-17 or a straight up ban in some countries. hello Postal 2!

well atleast Far Cry 3 didn't rely on zombies, but it's the heroic-kind of violence. not the sick-kind like in Manhunt and the aforementioned Postal.

but yeah, zombies allow the unnecessary level of violence.

other obvious reasons would be that they are potentially the most numerous adversaries in the modern world, as most wildlife has been reduced to a shadow of its former numbers.

and ofcourse there is the argument that they make "neutral" villains, as they don't seem driven by malice, making them easy to relate to and understand when it comes to motives. human or alien villains often have personal reasons for doing as they would, zombies do not need motives.

You know that's a really interesting look into the psychology behind zombies. Personally I'm totally sick of them in games due to the oversaturation, but its interesting how true it is that we don't feel any remorse over slaying them in the hundreds, yet killing hundreds of human characters does get a little draining under the right circumstances. For example, I have no issue killing hundreds of soldiers in games like Counter-Strike, Call of Duty or what have you because they're soldiers and I think there's this unspoken knowledge that they've chosen that career path... you expect soldiers to die. However, I played the first Manhunt game on PS2 for a few days and then I couldn't finish it because I had a nightmare that I was running around killing people. No game has ever had that sort of psychological effect on me before but it's because in Manhunt you're running around killing people in an insane asylum. Sure, they're still thugs, but there's something really different with the way you kill them in that game.

Anyway, first time I've watched the show, but it was awesome. Definitely got a new subscriber now!

I've never been a big fan of zombies, and it's gotten to the point where I will refuse to play most games where zombies are involved regardless of any other aspect of the game.

Not that Vampires have ever really fallen out of favour with popculture but I would love to see a resurgence of the badass goth Vampire that was pervasive before Twilight came sparkling along. When done well Vampires are infinitely more interesting than zombies, imo.

Part of the reason they're all over video games is because they're the one thing that just about any video game AI can handle. They're stupid and slow and only have two modes: walk and eat.

Zombies are to video games what Stephenie Meyer's vampires are to movies. And I mean movies. Sure, Twilight started as a book series, but they really bastardized vampires in movies with them.
