Resident Evil 0. Awesome. Don't know why they'd mention the "modern" controls though.

The first remake has already shown that 360 stick movement doesn't work with fixed camera angles. Tank controls or nothing.

@dexda: Options are always good though. Plus people may not have played the originals. I almost accidentally pre-ordered origins instead of Resi Evil 0 on PC though and already have the other one.

@deviltaz35: Yeah but the problem is 360 controls are fundamentally flawed with fixed camera angles. You run down a corridor in one direction and the camera angle changes mid way through meaning the stick is then pointing in the wrong direction and your character spazzes out when you move the stick.

Not to mention make the game ludicrously easy.

So it looks horrible when using modern controls because of your character's erratic movements and removes difficulty.

IF it was a seamless transition I'd be okay with it but there are clear problems with the modern controls.

@dexda: Ahh ok , i get where you are coming from now. I had issues with Devil May Cry i think it was on PC where the camera would change perspective when you entered a room. It usually meant instant death on some nasty spinning thing too :).

I don't really mind tank controls anyway, been gaming on PC's since the 80's and 90's long before controllers were an option.

@deviltaz35: Yeah I get why they don't use them any more. If they did it in reverse and added tank controls to a modern game they'd have to water down the animations and enemy AI to make it work. It would be a definite step backwards.

But for old games the AI is already bad because of the tech at that time and the controls were designed to accommodate that. If they want modern controls they'd have to modernise the game in more ways than just visuals.

@dexda: True , i am still impressed in original Halo's AI though. It's still cool they actually chase you if they think they have the upper hand in a fight. I just got Rogue Trooper on PC last night in a steam sale too. Such a fun shooter :). It looks pretty great in 5k DSR , with 8 x supersampling and and 8 x AA with x 16 filtering. I was quite surprised how sharp it is. Native widescreen support on steam version too. Impressive for an old game. Still runs at 80-100 fps even with 8 x supersampling too on a 980ti.

@dexda: I honestly never understood the issue with tank controls, the controls, pre-rendered backgrounds, cam angles and gameplay is what makes the classic REs so great.

@gameroutlawzz: It wouldn't be so bad (I actually started by using the modern controls) but the fixed camera angles don't work with 360 controls.

You run down a corridor in one direction, the orientation flips but your stick is still pointing in the same direction. Then when you need to adjust your stick the character animation stutters. It is totally immersion breaking and looks horrible. If you needed to get out of dodge quickly it would even be detrimental to the gameplay.

No I think the modern controls are simply fundamentally incompatible with these games. There are some old design choices that you simply can't avoid even in remakes.

@celeritasgamer1: The tank controls are a must in these kind of games. It made it harder to evade/escape from the enemies, making it more scary without making it frustrating. It's just a big part of old RE games. Besides, sometimes when the camera changes, if your are using regular controls your character would come and go between the two areas over and over because their movement directions where opposite to each other and it is pretty annoying. Pretty much what @dexda said.

@celeritasgamer1: Nope. It's a problem most people had, so that "me and most of the planet didn't have any problems" is not true.

@celeritasgamer1: Apart from the stutter your character makes every time the camera angle changes because your stick is pointing in the wrong direction? Or the fact it makes it easy to dodge zombies removing all difficulty from the game?

Thank you, Red Hook, for actually RELEASING a game after a relatively short window of early access. Plenty of other devs can learn from you and stop using the early access sham to continuously horde in money w/o ever working on or releasing a game.

You now have my money. =D

Finally RE:0 is hereeeee! On to beating the game for a 5th time. Paper Jam looks great also, loved superstar saga on wii u VC and anything that resembles Super Mario RPG/Paper Mario is a win in my book.

@Fandango_Letho: Is it really? Looks similar to Dragon's Crown and that game got boring pretty fast.

@Fandango_Letho: It's pretty amazing hey? I think it deserved an award for art design.

It was also a great price in recent steam sale.

I hope "Resident Evil 0" finally gets the wider attention it deserves. The quick-swap mechanic and ability to drop items without an item box really gave it a unique feel for the series.

Deadly Tower of Monsters seems to crank the cheesiness factor up to alluring levels. I noticed DToM mentioned on Abyss Odyssey's Steam store page recently, but wasn't aware that the game would be out this soon. Cool!

Paper Jam looks fun, too. Ain't got the console to play it, though. D;
