I feel ike this is nintendo's move to offset the now $50 price drop on the Wii U. I mean the system is already selling a at loss and I can't imagine the 2DS costing much to produce. Overall its a strategy that's mutually beneficial. The 2DS serves much younger children, people who can see 3D and cost wary console consumers. Nintendo gets more presence in game stores (with 2DS) and potentially getting more people interested in buying Wii U.
Going to be funny playing a game with 3D in the title, like Super Mario 3D Land... on a 2DS without 3D. And all the confusion that mothers will face going into Gamestop looking for 2DS games and not finding any. The 3DS cases say 3DS on the side. They will not know they can play it on their 2DS.
@TomMcShea"Young developing eyeballs..." made me chuckle. My mind just saw a bunch of eyeballs running around squeakily like pikmin, and looking at stuff intently for a couple of seconds before moving on to the next thing.
Good Idea. No one uses their 3DS with 3D on anyway!
I would have liked if they kept it looking like the 3DS or 3DS XL with the folding screen though.
It is a lot cheaper than a 3DS, I seen at EB Games Australia its only $148 so this one will be for the kids that want a handheld to play 3DS and DS games on.
@locknuts84 they only do old console and handheld games on the virtual console on wii u, usually it will only go back as far as 2 gens ago. so all you could hope for is maybe gamecube games on the wii u.
I hope there's some sort of ambassador program for the Wii U. Just like the 3DS, I bought it launch day, and while I don't feel I paid too much, extra free software would kick ass.
I have a 4 year old daughter that owns a kindle fire HD 8.9....she rarely ever plays with it and has been asking for a DS...the question I have is this...should I trade the Kindle at gamestop and get this new 2ds? No point in having both and it would save me some money. I need advice please
@BradPoynor well if she want's I'd say yeah, there are plenty of great games for 3DS, Many of them age appropriate to boot. Get her style savvy or ninten-dogs, I'm sure she'll love it.
They should have just removed the 3D and lowered the price if the 3D was a problem.
The new design just looks like a bunch of poor decisions.
Meanwhile a HD remake of a Zelda game might not be a bad idea and it will probably sell good but if that's all Nintendo have to show for these days then it's pretty pathetic.
@Saketume its for kids that are too young to take care of a console with a hinge. Kids of around 4 or 5 years old, that also shouldn't use 3D cause its not good for them. I think its a good idea.
If you want to know what Nintendo is up to, check some new, WW HD is for people waiting for the next zelda (that is in the works) to have something to play with.
In all honesty if they're too young for the hinge they probably shouldn't be playing videogames. Even if they wanted to make it hinge less they could have done a much better job. It's a disaster in my eyes.
@Saketume I'm quite interested by it sake. don't really care for the 3D and if it's sturdier with better battery, cheaper, win win for me. true the design look funny. but where is the right stick ??
Nintendo still desperately needs a system seller. Unfortunately as awesome as a game WindWaker is, its not it. A ten year old game will never be a system seller even if its free.
Why announce a price cut so far in advance? Now everybody capable of cognitive thought (and interested in the Wii U) is just going to wait until then to buy one. Good luck selling systems this month, Nintendo.
Good to see the Big "N" doing something. I have a Wii U (Deluxe Model) and currently a 360, and planning on buying a PS4. Nintendo must know they have a lot to go against. Yes the Wonderful 101 will be released on Sept 15th I believe; two days before GTA V. Wow; guess which game I'll be picking up lol. Oct and Nov they actually have some good third party games coming out including Batman Origins, AC IV, and Watch Dogs. The only issue is they won't clearly move as many units as the PS3 and 360. They have a Donkey Kong Game coming out and I think a new Mario game hitting in Dec. For anyone with just a Wii U they will at least have some options, my main concern is Nintendo may get lost in the mix (The Wii U that is). I am not buying any of those 3rd party games mentioned above on the Wii U. Regarding the 2DS, here is where I think Nintendo should not be underestimated; Japan alone will pick up a lot of those units, and if they actually start advertising they can really create a buzz for that handheld. Speaking of which we don't really see commercials for consoles these days? It may be a bit early but has anyone ever seen a PS4 or Xbox One commercial on TV? They could at least do a "Pre-order your system now" type thing. Perhaps it's just a "Supply and Demand" type thing.
Standard size screen? I'll pass then, was hoping for an XL screen for a good price, couldn't care for 3D, but would want titles I can't get on my DSiXL. Will see what it's UK price is before I consider a second hand 3DS XL.
I have a feeling that the 2DS will not be very popular... It looks ugly, doesn't have 3d(even if some people dislike it, it's 3DSs most unique aspect) and the screen looks smaller. If you're going to buy a console, why not pay a little more to get all the features. Audience for it seems really small.
They had the 8GB WiiUs discounted to $150 at Target in Canada just a few weeks back. THAT was a good price and the most I'd pay for a WiiU. Since you will be forced to buy an external hard drive anyways (even with the 32GB model), it would make more sense for people to buy the 8GB console and save money. Buy them while they last!
With (currently) only 32 comments? Nah, they'll pick something a little more popular with people. And maybe a little more controversial. If anything Nintendo-related, it would be about the price-cut, and how only 2 weeks ago they said they wouldn't do such a thing.
@boricuasnake04 I would consider patience for the x1. leaving time for things to settle down and be tuned properly. between all the changes & the improvements to come. the x1 isn't a finished product as far as I'm concerned. that and the price drop to occur between now and Christmas 14. there's the steambox to put in the picture to and what devs will do with it.
@mariokart64fan thats a game that most nintendo fan already played though. Personally I couldnt care less about some hd version of older games unless they are free update. So this zelda included with the wii u has the exact value I would give it.
