The Wii U is a system I don't want, but there are definitely games I want to play. I'll never pay more than $200 for a system I don't really want. Drop the price and I'm in. I want a new one for $199.99. Why is it taking them so long to drop the price? I can get an X1 or PS4 for around the same price as a Wii U.

It's just hard to spend that much for a system that is nearing the end of it's life, especially when a good portion of the money is paying for the gimmicky feature I don't like about the system. I remember when Nintendo was all about creating awesome games. The gimmicks will attract some people and turn others off. Just make great games.

@samahir01: and thats being generous...they can very well carry this over some months past that...if the rumors are correct...we could be looking at system with great backward capabilities, shared gaming experiences from your cell phone, 3ds, and console...with stronger specs...as well as getting an established and working titles for launch...and hopefully they push this new system and get enough press to show off it's capabilities...something they lacked with the Wii U...something they didn't fail to demonstrate for the Wii...that system made it on all types of tv spots, films, tv shows, music videos, magazines, etc...

If Live is anything like this, then yes.

I understand that the Wii U is struggling for good reason, but I do plan on getting one hopefully when the price drops. I've never understood the people who are okay with annual Assassin's Creed and COD releases but gripe about Nintendo "rehashing" franchises. IMHO, every Zelda game, despite utilizing familiar theme and characters etc, brings something new and fresh to the table. There's nothing wrong with tugging the nostalgia strings for these games. If you're going to tell me that A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, and even Skyward Sword are the "same game," then I don't think you've played them. The same goes for Mario (at least the main titles): Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, and hell, even Super Mario Sunshine were all very different from a gameplay perspective (and let's not forget Galaxy). I've been playing Mario and Zelda titles since I was a young kid and I still love the old ones, and look forward to the new ones.

I've always been a Sony fan, but for my PS4 I have Bloodborne, MGS5 (GZ and TPP) and Fallout 4. That's it for now. If I had a Wii U, you can bet I'd get in on Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Maker, the upcoming Zelda and plenty more. Yes they're mostly Mario titles, but that's because Nintendo is generally brilliant at making hugely fun games that stand the test of time. Go back and play Super Mario World and tell me its still not one of the most fun games out there.

If you're only going to buy 2 games for it, then yes, $300 is steep. But considering the games that are out and will be out before the end of it's lifespan, to me it's worth grabbing after the price drops a bit more. But I do hope Nintendo is ready to step up from a hardware perspective simply so it can compete with Sony and Microsoft with more 3rd party support.

@onionking108: I bought a Wii U with 10-12 of Nintendo's best titles, spent over $1000!. I work from home and am a life long hardcore gamer plus love playing Nintendo games while taking bong rips but for most people that amount of money is completely absurd. I don't disagree with a thing you said but Nintendo's prices are ridiculous. This isn't 2004 anymore, people don't have anywhere close to as much disposable income and Wii U does hardly anything but play videogames, hard to justify the purchase unless you will use the thing like crazy.

Last season was the season to pick up a Wii U. I said it last year that the Wii U easily had the best games, but it wouldn't last as Nintendo's virtually the only developer supporting it with great games that are worthy of your money. It was inevitable that the two newer systems were going to catch up, and they have.

I don't care how you slice it, one great Nintendo game is never worth trading up 5 or more third party exclusives that don't make it onto the Wii U, and that's where the libraries of the Xbox One and the PS4 have caught up to the Wii U. It may have the best exclusives, but what does that mean when it's missing virtually every third party game that's being released? Unless you're entertaining the idea of picking up a second console and your first isn't a Wii U, then that doesn't mean a whole lot to most people.

I would argue that the utility that a Wii U provides would be a reason to pick one up. You're getting a limited tablet with one. I use mine every single day to watch Youtube at night with earphones in bed before falling asleep. As an extra, that's pretty substantial, and it's an experience the PS4 and the Xbox One don't provide. At best, you'd have to watch on the TV while you feed the audio through some other device (do the controllers have headphone plug-ins? Perhaps there's a peripheral attachment for that). I don't need the TV to watch Youtube or browse the internet. I can do it on the game pad. It's a shame that it's tethered to the console via a relatively short range instead of being truly wireless over a home network, but it's great that I didn't have to buy an individual tablet to do that.

@brn-dn: Of course I own a smartphone. I like having a full charge in the morning however. My PC is not next to my bed, nor am I interested in fiddling with my phone all day long finding places to charge it during the day. Not only that but propping a phone up on its side so that I don't always have a hand on it to hold it steady is a lot more challenging than propping the game pad up. That's just a natural function of the size difference. The bigger screen on the touch pad makes it easier to one-finger type or swipe around while it's propped up... not to mention I still like having buttons and the d-pad to navigate or perform certain functions like skipping forward and back 10 seconds with the triggers. It's just a nicer experience than using a phone, and for me it's more convenient.

@jinzo9988: That's not good to leave your phone charging all night, it kills the overall battery life. I guess you have an older phone because the main iPhone and Samsung phones are just about the same size if not bigger. Seems like a weird preference.

@electricocarina: Not really, it's 6.2 inches. The iPhone 6S is barely smaller than that and the 6 Plus is bigger than the gamepad. The latest Samsung phones are also roughly 6 inches.

Disputing the 4 reasons:

4. There's not a lot of good Wii games.

3. The price at $300 is a joke, you can get a PS4 or Xbox One for $300 later this week.

2. Amiibo? Is this a joke?

1. The exclusives are mainly rehashes of GameCube games. The GameCube games are better including a better Mario Kart, a real 3D Mario, better Pikmin, better Smash, better Mario Tennis, better Mario Party, etc.

So.. buy a GameCube this Holiday season.

@brn-dn: you're plain ignorant. mario kart 8 is WAY better than double dash. havn't played pikmin 3 but i've only heard good things about it. Smash 4 is the perfect balance between melee and brawl. No one cares about Mario Tennis to begin with anyways. Your argument is basically that because games from the same series were on two different systems that must mean that the new ones are rehashes. By that logic then they're all rehashes of n64 games! And what makes Mario 3D World not a "REAL" 3d mario? Nothing thats what. Seems pretty real to me. O and whats that? O right. 3D world recieved outstanding reviews while sunshine continues to get criticism today!

@electricocarina: No it isn't. Mario Kart 8 is just 7 in HD. A lot of people cared about Mario Tennis before the Wii U game. The fact that it's 2.5D makes it not a real 3D Mario.

@brn-dn: Mario kart 8 is just 7 in hd. Bull s**t. I own both and 8 is far better. And sorry if Mario 3d World is a tad bit different from the traditional 3d mario i thought not being rehashed was what we were looking for here. You can say its only 2.5D or whatever just because the way the levels are designed but that doesn't make it a bad game. Because the level design is beautiful. Who are you to define what a "real" 3d mario is

@electricocarina: So what did 8 add from 7 besides the stupid anti-gravity thing that'll be removed for the next Mario Kart? That's right, absolutely nothing. Super Mario 3D World is a rehash of 3D Land. I'm a person that can tell the difference between a 2.5D game and a 3D game.

@big_pimper: I said mainly and then listed the most popular exclusives. A lot of your list is just Wii rehashes. Xenoblade, DK, and New Super are Wii rehashes. Hyrule Warriors and Pokken are just Dynasty Warriors and Tekken with Nintendo paint, Captain Toad is a $40 minigame, 3D World is the exact same as 3D Land, Mario Maker stole the idea from LBP, fourth Yoshi 2D game and still isn't better than the first, and Splatoon is a ripoff of Garden Warfare which is a way better game. I'm pretty sure they actually released Garden Warfare before Splatoon even started development.

@brn-dn: again you're trying to argue that just because they're in the same franchise they're a rehash. NOT EVERY GAME IS GOING TO BE A BRAND NEW IP! how about we say every new CoD's a rehash (except in this case it is) or every new halo is a rehash or every new battlefront is a rehash. And while we're at it every new fallout, just cause, witcher, mortal kombat, skyrim and GTA is a rehash. BY YOUR LOGIC EVERY NEW GAME IN THE SHOOTER GENRE IS A REHASH! EVERY SINGLE FRICKIN GAME THAT COMES OUT ACCORDING TO YOU IS A REHASH!

Nice job of completely ignoring the upcoming zelda thats looking to be the biggest open world game to date and is stunningly beautiful. Tell me thats gonna be a rehash.

@electricocarina: It's hardly different. They didn't have to do anything to Wind Waker to make it look good because it's cel-shaded look made it more or less timeless. The only thing they did was cut down load times. The new Zelda looks like a crap game made by an indie dev in Unity, Zelda series today has nothing on real AAA games. A lot of people have finally grown up and that's why Skyward Sword flopped, the Zelda fans grew up and played Skyrim instead.

Why is the title to buy a Wii U in 2016, when it's to buy it in Holiday 2015? Those are 2 DIFFERENT reasons. Why not buy it in 2015, it's last solo Holiday. You know because it's sexier little brother should be out next year, IF Nintendo is smart but we all know that isn't always the case nowadays.
