can you call it a comeback if the game started a bit slow and gained momentum/players over time?
anyways, this is what happens when you make a good game with an original concept and support it post-launch. Ubisoft have been doing good this year compared to certain other major publishers, also delaying games because they realize how that will benefit the end product.
I've always found it strange how most gaming sites do their GOTY stuff in December. Why not wait until January so you can evaluate the entire year after everything is released?
@nyran125tk: yea absolutely, it was only the second or third FPS i'd ever played so I played it on easy the first time through and still found it tough
@Subaru1980: comparing a crazy alt-history, totally fictional scenario game to one that attempts some semblence of historical accuracy isn't exactly fair (as much as I love Wolfenstein 2).
I think there is still room for a more authentic historically driven campaign, Sledgehammer seemingly just failed (haven't played it myself).
I still think MoH had the best WW 2 campaigns. Allied Assault, Frontlines and Pacific Assault were all great.
Allied Assault in particular sparked an interest in history for myself that has continued to this day. I almost feel like the campaign in CoD WW 2 is targeting its younger audience who might have missed those classics, the way they were talking about the guns of WW 2 in preview events as if no one had ever seen them before in games, and the fact that they focused on battles that have been in countless games already.
@MJ12-Conspiracy: eh not really, but I understand why some people dont like them.
as I said, I enjoyed these games more than any of Bethesda's major RPGs since Fallout 3 (well, I guess I said Skyrim). They actually have rewarding exploration, interesting characters and progression that is fun - ie. you can get your ass kicked by super weak enemies at the start but slowly become a badass.
I wouldn't let this score scare you off, PB games have a lot of charm, depth and nuance hidden behind the jank, if you enjoyed the Risen/Gothic series I'm sure you'd enjoy this as well.
I suspect I would enjoy this more than Skyrim (based on how much I enjoyed this developers previous work) and still plan on picking it up once I've got some more time. No flash, all substance.
I do know that these devs have a history with bad console versions, I've heard the PC version is the way to go.
@RyanBurnsRed: just insane stuttering and garbage frame rate. like totally unplayable. I had a HD5850 at the time which was a fairly high end AMD card and it played the game worse than my laptop's GT540m and terrible dual core cpu.
I think I ended up putting in my previous card, a 9800GT, to play the game.
