Retirement: EDITED
by tycoonmike on Comments
I have decided to retire from the Gamespot community.
I originally came here to search for an alternative to my lacking social life, and having found it, I became more and more dependent on it to replace it. That is, until today, when I have finally realized that my personal life, as in the people I see every day, is more important than some God-forsaken forum.
That being said, I am retiring from the unions I am a part of, except for the AoE union. I will probably log on fairly frequently, but only to check news about OotA, like upcoming battles and so forth.
I thank you for the year I've had with you, but now, I must take my leave.
I am, and always will be, tycoonmike.
EDIT: OK, so I've decided not to retire completely from Gamespot, but from all forums but AoE.
WTF YouTube?
by tycoonmike on Comments
Ah, YouTube, that famed video sharing site. Home to videos of our favorite television shows and music videos and other assorted videos that bring me hours of viewing pleasure.
Ah YouTube, that famed video sharing site. Also home to videos of people acting like morons and people who want to display their, assorted, fetishes.
I never thought that such idiocy could take place on any one website, even on Gamespot's Off Topic Forum. It amazes me how open some people can be about their lives and their friends.
I'll give you a few examples, this one, this one, this one, or this one. There were others, but surprisingly a lot of them are graphic. You'd think that an employee would delete a video of some guy getting a b**** from taking a shower with all his clothes on.

My Argument For Socialism
by tycoonmike on Comments
First off, you may say, "well, commie/pinko/red, if Socialism was so good, then why did the Russians fail?" The Russians failed, but not under a socialistic environment, under a communist environment. They failed because of their government's strict control of the sources of raw materials, and as such, their control of all products. Russia did not follow socialism, any more than does the United States follow democracy (we are a democratic republic, not a full blown democracy).
Socialism has two key factors that must be set into motion before a true socialistic society can survive any length of time:
1. There must be an unlimited supply of consumer goods and natural resources
2. The population must realize that we must work for the greater good, and not for ourselves, or else perish.
Condition one is a scientific problem. How do we procure an unlimited supply of resources/goods? The answer is simple, under present conditions, we can't. This would be a breach of the conservation of matter, one of the laws of thermodynamics, and as such, impossible under our present scientific state. Replicators, like that in Star Trek, would be necessary for a socialistic state to arise, and stay around for very long.
Condition two is a psychological problem. How do we convince ourselves that because we only work for ourselves the whole suffers? Once again, the answer is simple, World War Three. What better way to convince the population of Earth than through a nuclear war? We would come so close to extintion over the pettiest of things that humanity would realize that we work for each other, and what one does to another affects everyone involved.
Now, why is socialism good? Simply put, the inequalities under capitalism are rendered inert. There would no longer be classes decided upon your economic standing, and all opprotunities would be open to all people. In other words, human nature would be eradicated, once and for all. The seven deadly sins really personifies human nature, lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. All seven of which are utilized under a capitalistic society:
Lust- With money comes power, and as such, under capitalism, the corporations lust for it to ensure a steady profit without government interference
Gluttony- They who have fortunes usually go out of their way to buy items that aren't needed by their families.
Greed- Figure this one out by yourself, it should be obvious
Sloth- They with money often don't do much work to make huge amounts of it. They with money also will simply manipulate money to make more.
Wrath- They with money get angry when both the government steps in to help the worker out, or when the worker becomes inefficient or striking, thus they outsource the job because of their anger.
Envy- They with money often want to "keep up with the Jones'", being that if the Jones' get a satellite dish, the Smiths have to get a satellite dish, etc.
Pride- They with money often go out of their way to display their money, like Carnegie with his building of libraries, theaters, etc. While on one hand they did benefit the needy, on the other, it was showing them that you can't survive without us.
Socialism removes most these things, because of one concept, infinite goods. With infinite goods, these sins are rendered inert:
Lust- Without classes, and without boundaries as to what goods people can afford, there is no way to compare one person to another, thus there can no longer be a powerbase in goods
Gluttony- As with lust, everyone can get these extravagant things, which are no longer really extravagant, since everyone can get them
Greed- Since there is an unlimited supply to the amount of goods one can get, there can't be greed. Greed assumes there's a limit to the goods.
Sloth- This is solved by the second requirement of Socialism. After the war, people would realize that we can't simply work for ourselves, we must work for the greater good. Thus there would still be teachers, doctors, politicians, etc, as well as janitors, sewer workers, etc.
Wrath- Because all work is done for the benefit of society, no jobs would be outsourced, if one could still outsource jobs.
Envy- Everyone could keep up with the Jones', since the only way to be able to not have more than them is to willingly put a limit on one's use of the replicators I previously mentioned.
Pride- Since there is an unlimited amount of goods, there is nothing to be prideful about; if something breaks, you simply go to the replicator and get a new one.
And as such, that is my argument for socialism. If there is anything else I need to add, post it, and I'll adress it. Otherwise, please only post comments if you've read the entire thing.
There All The Honor Lies
by tycoonmike on Comments
It makes me think, though. Honor, by and large, is a dead concept, destroyed in the attempt to be the most powerful, be it country, business, person, etc., on earth. I cannot speak for others, but it does seem to me that bullies reign as the powerful, and the honorable are the ones crushed beneath their heel.
I was hoping to get your opinions on this subject, does it seem that honor is disappearing, by and large, from this earth?

I Know What You Did Last Summer

I just finished watching the above movie, and I gotta say, they don't make movies like that anymore. All the suspense/horror movies today are about the blood and the gore and the violence, like the Saw series (which I did see, and upchucked at). It's sickening! At least IKWYD had a discernable plot to it, other than simple mayhem and violence.
I'd really like to get your views on whether or not recent movies (from the past three or four years) have been crap as compared to the movies of the ninties.

I Have Returned
by tycoonmike on Comments
I wish to apologise to the moderators for this blog post. I was very angry when I wrote it, and basically I let my anger speak for me, which led to my suspension. I truly am sorry for the way I wrote the post. I do not know how I can perform penance for the actions I took, but if there is anything I can do, let me know.
On another note, I am retiring from a few of the unions I belong to. I am not active on many of them, save a select few, and I feel that my time would be better delegated to those in which I am active in, as well as to my studies.
