@Kevin-V @binderdundat Piggybacking this... The gameplay of Solstice Arena is pretty much the same scenery over and over. In my opinion (and, this is just my PERSONAL opinion, not necessarily those of GameSpot), while Solstice Arena's gameplay is fun on its own merit, it would make a poor backdrop for a video review. Compare to my other reviews, such as Salvation Prophecy which has three distinct different gameplay modes, or League of Legends where at least the map is much larger (and there are other gameplay modes), there is more to appeal to the eye of the viewer.
Granted, I imagine space battles would have been a bit more exciting on Hard (I assume they actually start piloting like the bounty captains, where they actually turn and try to shoot you?). Admittedly I did NOT crank up the difficulty level, but...on Normal, the only time I saw a ship actually fire at me while I was looking at it was in my bounty hunt of Grim Lobster.
@dutchgamer83 Weird, I actually had mention of the game's low price tag in my review. It would appear that bit did not make it through editing. I wholly agree with you on this point, and although I did not stress it in my review, trust me -- it was at least mentioned that the game had a low price tag, and is worth a try on that merit alone. If I had to guess, it would be that it was cut simply because I didn't stress it in other parts of the review, so it came across as non-sequitur. I'll keep that in mind in future reviews.
@-JMD- Many of the explanations that detracted from the score in Kevin's original review were with regards to missing features which now exist, or to the meager champion pool, which is now nearly triple the size.
Also, if you compare my review to the DotA2 review, you'll notice both games received the same score. I personally believe League of Legends is a better designed game than DotA2, despite DotA2's higher mechanical requirement and deeper intricacies of skills. Many of these things that draw hardcore players to DotA2 also serve to completely alienate new players. The deep burden of knowledge creates a barrier of entry that can make it hard for new players to get into the game. League of Legends works to make the genre substantially more accessible, and has also since launch made a lot of champions with interesting and unique skill set-ups (compared to launch which included a lot of boring point-and-click skills and not a lot of unique mechanics).
I assure you, Riot had nothing to do with the score this game was given, apart from their constant effort to improve their game.
