Makes me wonder where are these 19 million consoles...
I see a lot of people around still looking and not manageing to find one. Go figure what sale numbers would be had they managed to actually fill the demands and keep active stocks.
I do remember Nintendo64's launch with all of its.........2 games!!! Yeah! Only 2... Back when N64 launched, you either hard Mario64, or Pilotwings64... It then took weeks to come up with Turok, Star Wars and Cruis'n'USA...
Original Playstation had 10 launch titles from which 8 were trash.
Honestly, I don't remember any console at all which had a glorious launch lineup! I remember they all got us waiting for their best titles for months/years...
I feel bad for those still showing faith in polyphony's Gran Turismo, hoping it'll get back to its glorious days...
I was a Hardcore GT fan from the 1st title up to the 4th... With my hopes/expectation crumbling with every passing title looking at what Forza was doing on MS' side...
Polyphony totally lost it to Turn 10's!
From the 2nd release of Forza Motorsports we were able to see they'd totally make Gran Turismo bite their dust...
Forza titles grew better and better while GT got from bad to worse...
I sort of wished they'd get back at it and 7th release, for its 25th year celebration kinda got me curious and interested again but I had a voice in the back of my head telling me to wait... To allow for reviews to get online and see how it is...
I'm sooooooooo glad I was patient enough and didn't hopped right in the bandwagon!
I used to praise for open world games. But what actually "is" an open world?
Sur you could go anywhere you want but there's actually only about 10-20% of the world where you actually "belong" depending on your level.
Early in game, sure you could try and explore but just about everything that roams the world could totally anhiliate you and you wouldn't stand a fighting chance. Then when you get geared up and leveld up, most of the previous zones are too weak to be of any interest.
So, in a way, an open world, isn't really open... there's still a very specific "path" you should take if you hope to live another day...
I have mixed feelings about that "No Quest log" thing!
I sort of missed those days where we had to use our brain and not just roam numb from a pinpoint location to another every minute... (World of warcraft started that for me... Chaining quests without even reading, just rushing for the quest area, doing what was asked, skipped on the lore/speech/test only to do the next one...This carried over to a couple more games afterwards. I remember telling myself I'd give Skyrim a TOTAL go, reading, hearing EVERYTHING and care for every detail but after about 20 hours in, I gave up and got back to just gathering tons of quests and do them all without caring much about lore/story...)
But then again, I am playing so many games lately that I often find myself launching a game, barely remembering what I was doing on my previous gaming session in this game, so the log/guides allowed me to get back into it rapidly!
I think something in between would've been best. Something like Breath of The Wild where you had a log, which gave you a basic idea about the region you had to go, what needed to be done but where quest items/mobs weren't highlighted, flashing brightly so you can just do it braindead...
I'll get the PS5 disc version of Elden Ring as I'm not totally sure this game will be for me... If I end up recognizing how great a game it is but not "meant" for my playstyle, I'll just sell it back on marketplace so I didn't waste 80$ on a game I don't "enjoy" despite its masterpiece state...
@jonathan7982: Sierra game that had you guessing weren't large and vast open world.
They were mostly games where you were alternating between a dozen of closed regions requiring you to find an item or whatever... I mean, yeah you were left out on your own to find what's next but within a very closed environment...
In such a large open world I'm actually scared I might even forget what I was on in my previous run, what I have done and not so far...
