orangemann327 Blog

The last 2.5 weeks of my life condensed into 1(maybe 2) blogs

I've had a radio station playing in my head the past few weeks, the #1 song, Let It Rock. I sing that song as least twice a day now.

First, Kyle XY was cancelled? That made me so angry. Us fans probably won't get closure at all, and they won't make a movie or anything so we'll be wondering what happens. As long as they tie up all the loose ends, I'll be disappointed but okay.

The roommate search ended. We had trouble though. There was a list of people who needed a roommate or two or three so we signed up, the guy we got was the only one who needed one. He seems cool, but I've heard things so this could be interesting as he's most likely gonna be my roommate.

What made the roommate search complete crap was that my school's network got a virus right when we were trying to contact this dude so email wouldn't work. ITS here sucks, and has no idea what to do half the time. It's useless that they hire so many work study people, but don't take the time to train them. The people who do know what to do, they refuse to do anything. Pretty much if your computer got the virus, mine didn't thankfully, and you took it to ITS, they'd tell you they couldn't do anything. It's ridiculous.

There's been lots of drama that past few weeks. I'm gonna go back to the Room Wars nicknames, so I hope everyone can follow along. Jungle Spider (JS) and Parker have been going out. Recently SSOC and Cleveland started dating. Everyone made a big deal about the latter couple b/c it was a long time coming. There's one difference between the two couples however. JS and Parker alienate people while SSOC and Cleveland don't. Everyone says it's Parker, and that she's controlling, but JS allows himself to be whipped. It's sad b/c JS is losing a lot of his friends b/c he has to eat every meal with Parker and be around her almost 24/7. I've been talking with SSOC, Cleveland, Latin(male friend), my bff Fitzy(she went to high school with Parker) and we've all decided that Parker annoys the living crap out of us. I've decided to try harder for JS's sake, I think I'm gonna have Guys Night Out to b-ball games, or baseball games or even just to the movies. I've been thinking about talking to him and telling him what's going on b/c everyone else realizes it. Most of the drama surrounds around JS/Parker, two out of the past three weekends in particular:

Super Bowl Weekend- JS and I decided we'd host a Super Bowl Party. There's a store within walking distance so the Monday and Wednesday before the SB, I was like let's go to the store on Friday to get buttloads of pop and chips, we were also ordering pizza on the day of the Super Bowl. Both times I asked, he said Friday was great, after my last class. In my last class, I texted him asking him if we could go like ten minutes later than we planned so I could eat lunch. He texted me back, "Oh crap, I'm at lunch now and Parker wants to go to Starbucks and then the movies." At that point, I was furious, but I didn't show it. He comes back after the movies and after I had made a trip by myself to ask if I had gone, I said yes, and he responds with like the teeenage girl way of saying it with the rolling of the eyes, whatever. I didn't care. Then, he wanted to know (since I'd have to go again) if we could go on Saturday after he got back from tubing with Parker and her mom. He said he'd be back by 3 so I said 3:30 is fine by me. It's 3 on Saturday and he didn't show up, then 3:30, then 4:00, and finally at 4:30 I went by myself again. Our group of friends was invited to one of our friends apartments for a game night. It was great, so much fun. Parker and JS still hadn't shown up. We texted them at 8:30 asking if they were back. They said they were and they'd be there in a few minutes. They showed up at 10:11!!! At that point, both me and SSOC were fed up with their antics and them in general so we began texting each other and both of us seemed to "shut down" when they got there. After our friend whose apartment it was wanted to go to sleep, he "kicked" us out so we went back to my apartment where Parker ranted about him kicking us out, but c'mon the poor guy wanted to sleep, I didn't mind at all.

Yesterday - Fitzy's birthday was Friday and Parker's was yesterday. Me and Fitzy saw the one show here b/c I had to go for a clas$ and she didn't want me to go alone. It was really good. We saw some somewhat modern rock songs done with orchestra accompaniment. We got out of that at 10:45. I went back and changed out of my dress clothes and we planned to go to Latin's for something for Fitzy's b-day. Parker had planned a Valentines/b-day party for herself and invited me but not Fitzy. A lot of people took offense to that. I decided though that I'd stop by for a half an hour. I knock on Parker's apartment door and I am asked to serenade everyone before they let me in. I literally said **** it (yes that was the really really bad one) and went to the elevator so that then I could go to Latin's. (Latin lives in the same building as Parker.) At that point, I got texts and calls like crazy asking me to come back. I didn't care and ignored them. I was called a party pooper, which may be true, but I had fun and I assume they did too so if anyone gives me crap today I'll just ask them if they had fun and that what's the problem. This should be interesting, b/c me and SSOC are gonna spend probably the whole day with Parker and she's not too high on either of our lists right now.

Kyle, roommates, tests, stuff

Just to let you in on my last blog, my sister asked me that to which I responded "I was four when we saw that music video" but I tried to find it so that I could point out how smart I was. Didn't work.

I finally watched last week's Kyle XY and I watched last nights. Of course I choose to miss one of the funniest episodes ever (Psychic Friend). I was laughing the whole time, my roommates thought I was crazy. Last night's was good, but not that great. I think Season 3 is starting like 2 did with a bunch of up and down episodes, so as long as it ends like Season 3, I'll be happy. My roommates made fun of me though (behind my back but they don't realize they talked loud enough for me to hear) but I don't care b/c I got to watch Kyle, it was a good night. I'm starting to dislike Lori as a character though, I loved how her, Hillary, and Declan were all in the little fight thing though in Psychic Friend, that was hilarious.

I also watched the Australian Open last night, well part of it. Go A-Rod!!! He beat No-Djo and now gets big bad piece of you know what Roger Federer, I hate him with a passion. On the women's side, Ivanovic got eliminated so that pretty much ruined my interest. I hope Serena wins though, I think she's still in it.

Back to roommates, one of mine is leaving, meaning we will have 3. With 3, we'll have to give up our apartment unless we find a fourth. None of our friends want to though, the one does but he wants to get a 5 person apartment like six blocks from campus. We're thinking about trying to hold interviews for a fourth, that would get entertaining.

This week is busy, Thursday I have a test, quiz, and a mid-term (yes a mid-term 17 days into the semester). We have to clean and shop for Sunday b/c my apartment is hosting a Super Bowl party. We have housing meeting Thursday and we're gonna talk to our RD sometime this weekend hopefully about our housing situation. Can it be Friday yet?

Kyle, Pirates, Penguins, Ricola?

***Possible Spoilers if you haven't seen Kyle XY premiere of Season 3 yet***

Season 3 of Kyle XY started last night!!! I must say though that after watching all 33 episodes before it, I was disappointed. I didn't really like the whole let's save amanda together story, it was just boring to me. Carol Bloom getting sloshed though was the highlight of the episode, definitely. Heclan? If Hillary and Declan were to get together, I wouldn't oppose, even though I prefer Lori and Declan. The season preview that was shown at the end was so much more promising though, I can't wait. It's interesting though that my favorite characters have changed so much with this show, I'll break it down by season:

After Episode 1 (only a top 3 b/c we didn't really know anyone):

1. Josh
2. Kyle
3. Lori

After Season 1:

1. Declan
2. Kyle
3. Hillary
4. Lori
5. Josh

After Season 2:

1. Declan
2. Kyle
3. Lori
4. Ballantine (I loved him as the villain)
5. Hillary

This Cassidy dude of Latnok was good, seems promising at least.

***End of Kyle XY episode/plot talk****

There's an Amanda Bloom in my music klass! I know I made mention of this in a blog a while ago b/c she was in another one of my klasses, but I just thought I should share.

I can feel it, the Pens break their funk tonight and kill the Flyers. Therrien needs to stop changing the lines so quickly though, has he ever heard of consistency?

I can feel it, the Pirates do moderately well this year, not Rays well, but .500. McClatchy is officially completely gone and I really like the Craig Monroe minor league signing. He hasn't really shown he's that great, but I just think he will prove this year he can play in the majors. He's my early pick for Comeback Player of the year.

Tomorrow's Hump Day, thank goodness, the first week of klasses is dragggggggiiiiiiinnnnnnggg on!

I've found something I like about the site layout!!

I just noticed this today for some reason, but for each user (in their profile), it has the amount of topics they've started. If it was there in the old layout, it was better hidden b/c I never saw it then. Looking at mine though, it's pretty much what I expected. I have something like 475 topics but over 9,100 posts. I'm not very good at making topics, I'm just surprised I've made that many.

The best music of the year by me!!

It's finally time, time to find out what song will be #1!!!! I would first like to say it's been a great year, and I hope to share some of my favorite music with all of you in 2009.

15) "Viva La Vida" - Coldplay

Coldplay is back, even though I'm not sure they officially left. Gonna go out on a limb here and say this is their biggest hit ever, bigger than "Yellow", "Speed of Sound", and "Clocks".

14) "Sugarbaby" - Morningwood

Anyone else watch FNMTV? It's their pathetic attempt to play videos while still having it as an actual show. I love most of the shows they have on MTV, but c'mon play more videos. Anywho, I saw this song on FNMTV and initially it was the video that caught my eye, but I fell for the song too.

13) "Miss California" - Jack's Mannequin

2 out of 3 for Jack's Mannequin. This song with its quite fun/questionable lyrics just gets me. Is this song really about a murder type theme, or am I crazy?

12) "That's What You Get" - Paramore

Ah Haley and her eyes. I knew this song would be a hit, it was one of the songs I listened to before it was actually released on Riot!.

11) "Bleeding Love" - Leona Lewis

VH1's #1 on of the year is my #1 with another 1 attached to it. I didn't think I would like this song, but I do, it's a shame the rest of them seem to suck.

10) "When Did Your Heart Go Missing?" - Rooney

The highest of the 2007ers mainly b/c I didn't hear it in 2007, but rather 2008. Happy Ivy?

9) "Damaged" - Danity Kane

Shannon and the girls as I refer to them. It's a shame that D. Woods and Aubrey, but mainly D. Woods are gone. I'm not sure what the group will do, I hear talks of new albums, but you can never be sure especially with all the talk about Dawn becoming a solo artist. No link available that I like, sorry!

8) "The Resolution" - Jack's Mannequin

I heard this song coming home from the Pittsburgh Mills on the night I bought the Amazing Race DVD board game. At first, I didn't like it, along with much of Pittsburgh by their reaction to the DJ, but c'mon it's Jack's Mannequin, they're genius.

7) "Prototype" - City Sleeps

The original Launchcast hit. I still love this song. I didn't think it ever really had a shot at #1, but I knew top 10 for sure.

6) "Stay Beautiful" - The Last Goodnight

If you had asked me my pick for #1 in June, when it was just based on countdowns, this song wins hands down. It had the highest amount of points. The bad thing is that it's just a sometimes song for me now.

Top Five, with one Paramore song left.

5) "Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)" - Wyclef feat. Akon, Niia, and Lil Wayne

First heard this song at work, and I knew it was gold. I still hear it to this day being played on two Pittsburgh stations at least twice a day. Side note to Sylent: How do you feel about Wayne in this one? If anything I think it's Akon that relies on his collaborations now that I've thought about it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing since I like a lot of his collaborations.

4) "After Tonight" - Justin Nozuka

The highest of the You OUghta Know! Artists from VH1. It's a shame that VH1 used it though to prevent the Scott Baio reality show.

3) "Devour" - Shinedown

The theme song for the Island. That was a good RW/RR Challenge. Good theme song, good winner (Derrick was good enough to compensate for the other crappy ones Ev, Johnny, and Kenny). One of the few Madden ones I like.

Down to two...

2) "CrushCrushCrush" - Paramore

Despite having the longest time on the countdown, it isn't as like as it was in its prime. I still like it, just not as much. That and the fact that I freaking love #1, pushed it to #2.

And now my most awesomest song of the year...

1) "Hell Yeah" - Rev Theory

Fate wanted me to hear this song. I turn on CBS to see if Amazing Race is gonna be delayed and I catch the end of the Slamball championships and this song was being performed!! I had no idea who or what song it was so thank goodness for Google. This song is another reason for the NHL games soundtrack over Madden. Madden, in order to keep its E rating even though football had a buttload of tackling, mutilated this song, even making it be "Hey Yeah". C'mon, that was an Outkast song a few years ago, not a Rev Theory song.

There you have it, my top 75 of the year. Some of it was 07, 08, and even 09. See you all in the new year, even though some of you are already there!!

P.S. All five parts took up 9 pages in word!!

Music of 2008 pt 4 (30-16)

We're getting into the meat and potatoes of the countdown.

30) "The World Should Revolve Around Me" - Little Jackie

Hey, a You Oughta Know! Artist. The theme song for New York's most recent television project, it had me at the first note. This duo is great, if only they had more exposure.

29) Island(Float Away) - The Starting Line

It's a 2007, but my countdown. It's a shame the group broke up, right when I was starting to get into them. I half expected this to be the theme song for the latest Real World/Road Rules Challenge, but I'm glad I was wrong.

28) "Hearts Burst Into Fire" - Bullet For My Valentine

One of the reasons I like NHL game soundtracks better than NFL games. Look for a higher place in 2009 for this one.

27) "Just Fine" - Mary J. Blige

It seems like every year, there is one Mary J song I like, and this was it for 2008. I don't quite know why I liked this song so much but it makes me feel just fine when I hear it.

26) "What You Got" - Colby O'Donis

Another Launchcast winner of mine. I loved it and hated it, but I still love it. I'm not sure what to expect from Colby in the future, but I'm hoping it's more of the same.

25) "Sweet and Low" - Augustana

They made one of my least favorite songs ever, "Boston", but I think they redeemed themselves with this one. Random turning on of VH1 allowed me to hear this one, I love it when it works out like that.

24) "4 Minutes" - Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake

A few weeks ago, one of my roommates complained about how the treadmill dancing in this video was ripped off from OK Go's "Here It Goes Again". My response was that maybe if OK Go had a good song with the video, others would complain too. This one goes without a link due to me not being able to find a good enough version that suits my tastes, sorry!

23) "The Good Left Undone" - Rise Against

What a bright future this song had, until I got bored with it and other songs came along. It was there to fill the hard rock void in my life, sadly it was replaced.

22) "Dangerous" - Kardinal Offishall feat. Akon

I really don't know what to say about this song, I love it.

21) "Decode" - Paramore

One of the hit songs on what could be the most popular soundtrack of the year. It's not as good as some of the other Paramore songs, but I can't help but like it.

20) "Wake Up" - Story of the Year

I wondered what they were up to after "Until the Day I Die". Luckily, this song came up on my Launchcast and I found the answer. Great song for a great band.

19) "Spinning" - Jack's Mannequin

I wondered what they were up to also. I then heard a song that will come later on the countdown and downloaded it. I liked it so much I did a rare thing for me, downloaded songs I didn't know I would like. Well, 2 out of 3 of the ones I didn't know appear on this countdown, that's a pretty good percentage.

18) "She's A Lady" - Forever the Sickest Kids

The band I never knew I didn't like. Their music is eh, but they scored a hit with me with this song.

17) "Just Another Day" - City Sleeps

Looks like another 2009er. One of a select few artists to have at least 3 songs on the countdown (I can think of 2 others), I didn't like this song at first. It grew on me like most songs and now it is one of the most played on my mp3 player.

16) "Let It Rock" - Kevin Rudolf feat. Lil Wayne

There was like two weeks when I didn't know who sung this song. I think this one deserves a nominee for song of the year. C'mon, everyone likes this song.

15 remain and a few questions still to be answered: Paramore has 2 songs left, what positions? Rooney is still lurking, when will it finally strike? What song will get the top spot!!??

Kyle is MINE!!!

Kyle XY Season 2 came in the mail today!!!!! I'm so excited, I have 23 hours of re-watching to do, plus the 10 from Season 1 before the Season 3 premiere in 2 weeks!! What better thing to have in my 350th blog!!! Part 4 of the 2008 countdown coming tomorrow!!

Top 75 Songs of the year by me pt.3 (45-31)

30 songs closer than when we started, here's another 15:

45) "Angels on the Moon" - Thriving Ivory

What do ya know? It's a VH1 You Oughta Know! Artist. I must say that I thought their lead singer was whiny at first, but I enjoy the song now, without his voice it would be crap.

44) "Black Cat" - Mayday Parade

A Launchcast song that just never launched. I still enjoy it, but it's just not what I enjoy to be a top song.

43) "Walk Of Life" - Shooter Jennings

The first ever countdown #1, it has an entertaining video. Once Launchcast died for me, so did its chances to be higher.

42) "When I Grow Up" - Pussycat Dolls

BB fans, did you spot the hidden houseguest in this video, it's none other than my favorite houseguest ever, James Rhine!!! I knew it as soon as I saw it. It's a good, upbeat dance song. Also, Fanny Pak on ABDC did a great dance to it.

41) "Who's Going Home With You Tonight" - Trapt

Oh how I'd missed Trapt. Well, this song caught my eye in the free downloads part of Amazon and I love it.

40) "Summertime" - New Kids on the Block

It's not a new kids comeback until they appear on my countdown. I didn't want to listen to this song, b/c I didn't want to acknowledge their comeback, but the song wore on me. It's just a tad creepy b/c the lyrics suggest, at least IMO, they're talking to a 14 year-old.

39) "Not An Angel" - City Sleeps

This is an off and on song, like most with me. After a certain song left to come on my countdown, I didn't think City Sleeps could get any better, this one was just short though.

38) "Great DJ" - The Ting Tings

I mentioned they still had one to come. This one could barely stay on the countdown, but it's one that I still regularly listen to.

37) "Human" - The Killers

I honestly thought that there would be a year without a Killers song I liked. However, I downloaded this one the day it was available on Amazon. The video is amazing.

36) "I Cry" - The Becoming

Another one I got on the free download section of Amazon, I expect really big things for them in the next few years.

35) "Bust It Baby" - Plies feat. Ne-Yo

I'm not sure why I put this one so low, but I must have had a good reason. The Ne-Yo part blends perfectly with the Plies part, this might have been a bad ranking here.

34) "Busy Signals" - The Pink Spiders

Another Amazon free download, I heard "Little Razorblade" and I liked it so why not, it was free. I didn't realize it would become one of my favorite songs for several weeks.

33) "Chasing Pavements" - Adele

The video for this song is amazing. Dancing Shadows?!! I love it, I didn't expect her to be such a good singer, I must admit. BTW, she's a You Oughta Know! Artist.

32) "Hollywood's Not America" - Ferras

I hated this song without listening to it, b/c people on the VH1 boards spammed for this song. I heard it though, and it's an amazing song. I still don't think the people should have spammed.

31) "Disturbia" - Rihanna

I think I might want to take back what I said about her the other day. T.I.'s song featuring her is great!! It will definitely be on for 2009. Back to this song, it was a disappointment, at least the video was. I was thinking it would be a masterpiece, comparable to Thriller, but it fell short.

30 songs remain, where will the remaining 3 Paramore songs land? Another band with 3, Jack's Mannequin, might lay claim to the top spot, the question is what song would get the spot? Will Rooney just be on already?

Top 75 songs of the year by me PT. 2 (60-46)

And now onto part 2 of the countdown, songs #60-46. For those that missed part one and wish to see it, they are available in my previous blog. Starting off:

60) "You Can't Count On Me" - Counting Crows

Ah, the Jeanne Benoit song. This is one of the few Counting Crows songs I like. It sounds very whiny, but it strikes something in me.

59) "Killa" - Cherish

I first heard this son on the way back to college, had no idea what it was called, but I loved it. I had no way to listen to it naturally though. It could have been a big song.

58) "Handlebars" - The Flobots

I hated this song at first, with a passion. I then listened to all of it and the end was fantastic. The lyrics are questionable, but the intensity is amazing.

57) "In Love With A Girl" - Gavin DeGraw

Finally, another song by Gavin I like. I loved his first, but I can't remember the name. This one is better than the others, don't know how b/c it sounds the same, but it is.

56) "Not My Time" - 3 Doors Down

Video = Amazing, song = not so much. It's one of those songs you listen to, but not always b/c it's more of a mood song.

55) "Just Dance" - Lady GaGa

I must say that I thought this was Danity Kane (minus Aubrey and D. Woods of course) when I first heard this song. That might be why I like it, but you can expect a better showing for this song in 2009.

54) "Shake It" - Metro Station

This song is an example of what happens some of the time with me. I find someone I like and then I hate them when they become "cool". Everyone does it, this is one of my instances. I can still listen to this song, but I prefer not to.

53) "Misery Business" - Paramore

I know it's not much of a "2008 song", but it's my countdown. I still love this song to death, one of my favorite songs ever. Will it be on the 2009 countdown? Maybe if it's a slow year. Sorry I couldn't find the official video since it was taken down. :(

52) "Mercy" - Duffy

I wrote her off as a bad artist based on her looks and ****of music. After listening to the whole song though, I changed my mind. I still don't like her other stuff though.

51) "Criminal" - Justin Nozuka

If it weren't for the free downloads on Amazon, I probably wouldn't like this song as much. It's a pretty good song.

50) "Two Weeks" - All That Remains

I still remember the night I heard this song. I had the apartment all to myself for the night, the Penguins beat the Blues, and I heard this song on Headbanger's Ball on MTV2. Isn't it funny how just by watching a random show (which I have viewed more often lately) can turn you into a song?

49) "Love Song" - Sara Bareilles

This song is only here b/c of its strong showings on the countdown. I still like it, but I find it way too overplayed now, not to mention I heard 8 different renditions of this song by 8 different people in one day, lol.

48) "Pocketful of Sunshine" - Natasha Bedingfield

Ah, my girl. I have always been a fan of hers, ever since These Words. Finally though, she has a mega-impact song. Unwritten and her song with Sean Kingston were good, but I will go out on a limb to call this one the one that defines her musical career thus far.

47) "Fall For You" - Secondhand Serenade

I hate my Launchcast now. I had this song on two of my stations and I loved it. The problem was my Launchcast stopped working and I couldn't remember this song until it became a mainstream hit. This song could have been higher if only Launchcast worked for me.

46) "Take You There" - Sean Kingston

An early year hit, I haven't heard this song for at least 5 months now. I haven't heard from Kingston either for a few months, anyone know where he's been hiding?

With the second segment done, many questions still remain: How much of an impact will VH1's You Oughta Know! Artists have on the countdown? What will be the surprise song that shakes up the countdown? Where will Rooney land?
