Immortal - All Shall Fall

ok so i usually go track by track and make a huge blog post about an album, not this time, it dosn't need to be done.

All Shall Fall is Amazing . 10/10 its better than at the heart of winter and anything after it, too different from halocaust / battles to compare.

the last song is truely epic, its like what burzum always tried to do, but better than it all.

just get this album and listen to it already.

FLY FREE MIGHTY RAVENDARK, FLY FREE.

!

Funny Convo with Metal Noob on my friends facebook status, ENJOY!

ok so my friend posted about the dethklok / mastadon concert and some metal nub posted as well, and we got into an arguement. his music taste is prety horrible and he tries to bash me, here is the convo.

ME: mastadon has great album covers... thats pretty much it.

NOOB: HOW DARE YOU!!!!! Their music is some of the best out there!

ME: meh, groove metal...... nothing good has ever come from groove, only the trailor trash called pantera and chaos ad, the album that killed sepultura.

NOOB : obviously you have a **** taste in music

ME: HAHAHAhaha, your the one who has lamb of god in your favorite bands list.

NOOB : find a better band for me? What do you listen to? Coldplay? Probably.

ME :

no, real metal. just to name some good bands from some diff genre's, not including gay groove metal.

Thrash: coroner, artillery, kreator, celtic frost, morbid saint, megadeth, old sepultura
death : morbid angel , cynic , nile
Prog: opeth, destroyer 666 (blackened progressive thrash)...
black : immortal, emperor ( in the nightside eclipse) , dissection (storm of the light's bane) , ulver
Doom : candlemass, electric wizard

NOOB: Thrash: **** Megadeth/Exodus, Testament, Metallica, Slayer, Kreator, Sodom, Annihilator, Overkill, Forbidden.
Groove(Because there is something that can replace **** in black metal.): Pantera, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Trivium.
Death: Death, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary.
Progressive: Tool, Mastodon.
See, I've got good taste too. You're just a ... narrow minded metalhead that probably thinks that Megadeth started thrash, and that Avenged Sevenfold is metal. Plus, some of the best metal musicians came out of the groove metal genre. Just remember that next time you're douching yourself to "Symphony of Destruction."

ME: um, dave did start thrash, and the best songs on KEA are his. metallica is too slow and mainstream. sad but true.
avenged sevenfold sucks.
slayer hasnt put anything good out since seasons in the abyss
i dont listen to anything past rust in peace....
trivium? LOL your such a poser.
lamb of god and pantera are white trash, well i guess thats why you look like a bro. ( a bro is a redneck / white trash living in california )

no good musicians came out of groove.
way to fail at bashing megadeth

i'm done talking to you, your making nick's status look bad.

have fun in high school btw. dont you have homework to do?

MEGADETH's ENDGAME REVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111

ok, so its fianally out! listening to it in FLAC ( pure cd quality) . disclaimer, if you are expecting rust in peace 2.0, this cd will dissapoint you, but if you come into it with an open mind, then you will realize how great this album really it.

this is how i'll be reviewing the album, i have already listened to it 3 times ( not including hearing the 5 songs previously leaked upwards of 15 times each)

READ THIS: if you listened to the leaked songs on youtube, they are hardly the same, those bitrates were crap and the sound was soo compressed, daves voice is louder and clearer substancially on the studio album, the intro's are better and endgame the song especially is.

so i'm going to listen to it a 4th time, reviewing each song as i listen to it and giving each song a X/10 score.

lets start:

1. Dialectic Chaos ( instrumental) : the first 26 or so seconds start off with a riff that makes you very excited, since its very basic.. and then.. the solo battle begins, this song is midpaced , the solo's are not shred, which is actually pretty good , they are jazzy feeling and are well done. dave and broderick go back and forth in a style reminiscent of the end of hangar 18 but not as fast, with more varying solo's. only downside is its lenght and the first 26 seconds are .. well not as awesome as the rest. 9/10

2. THIS DAY WE FIGHT : the feedback from the end of a solo on dialectic chaos bursts into this day we fight, this song is the fastest song here, and with headcrusher are the only songs i can regard as full on thrashers, this song does not give up at all, and for a song based off what arragon said in lord of the rings, you would think itd be lame dungeons and dragons stuff ( DIO) but no, it kicks ass and is not corny at all. this song is reminiscent of take no prisoners, and just like it, IT TAKES NO **** 10/10 OLDSCHOOL 'DETH.

3. 44 MINUTES : starts with a melodic intro , police are heard talking ( this is about a bank heist) , the riff comes in and out, and then the song starts. this song sounds like countdown era mixed with a little bit of singing style from later, think trust or something, but better, this is easily better than anything post countdown and is actually one of my favorite songs here , the solo at 1:30 lasts like 5 seconds but its awesome. very melodic and shows that dave can do a lot more than just balls out thrash, altho that is what he is best at, and i still look forward to the day that everysong on a megadeth album will be thrash / speed metal again. 9/10 this song does it for me.

4. 1320 : sounds very 80's, a bit of nwobhm , hard to pin this one down, but its good, the opening is really good, the mid is alright, not amazing, but the drum solo at 2:30 and the guitar solo after picks it up and makes up for the only decent chorus section. 8/10

5. BITE THE HAND - post countdown style. not my cup of tea. reminds me of youthinasia era. the riff is alright, but its simple and daves voice is loud over it, the definition of a mainstream song and the line " when its dog eat dog, you are what you eat, just like the mad dog that bites the hand that feeds" and to make it worse, at the end (after already saying it like 3 times in the song before ) he repeats that about 3 times ( think peace sells but who's buying, the end of the song) so combine meh lyrics with meh riffs, you get an ok song. its not bad by any means, but i'll never be listening to it again honestly. 6/10

6. Bodies ( left behind) : melodic post countdown style song, but is actually good, has a cool part of the vocals/lyrics that says "... friends... but not your friends! " ( think " what do you mean i'm not kind... just not your kind" from peace sells. good song 8/10

7. ENDGAME ( TITLE TRACK MOFO's) : i didnt like this song the first time i listened to it on youtube, cuz it starts out slow, but i listened more and more, and loved it more everytime, now .. its a classic in my eyes. its about george bush's endgame document, allowing him to pick up illegal aliens and put them in conscentration camps / out of the country by any means necisary. the lyrics are awesome, and the progression of tempo is the song is awesome once you have heard it a few times. and the ending is just amazing. this is the end... **solo** . this song is not as good as holy wars, but close, its just as epic. BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY, THIS IS THE ENDGAME this song coulve easily been on rust in peace, 10/10 GOLD.

8. The Hardest Part of Letting Go / Sealed with a Kiss : starts off acoustic, the music is good, emotional, this is a love song, the lyrics at the beginning are soo corny, it almost made me skip it the first time. but endure, because the song gets better, actually very good. actually looking back the lyrics arnt that corny, but .. this is the guy who wrote black friday saying " when i saw you, i just knew i had to have you" . at 1:50 the song ups the tempo with a cool riff. and daves singing becomes good, it sounds oldschool, his singing is reminiscent of SFSGSW and in my darkest hour. sarcastic and snarly sounding. chris broderick's melodic solo'ing over dave's chuggy riff is very tasteful and just sounds great. " go to sleep my love, taste my sweet revenge on your lips, sealed with a kiss".. yeah.. daves written better, but thats fine, its a nice song. i like this a lot more than a teut le monde. and you need to be a " every song needs to be over 300 bps with blast beats " ignorant metalhead that dosnt know what music is, to think this song is bad. 8/10

9. HEADCRUSHER : if you havnt heard headcrusher yet, you have either been living under a rock, or dont care for megadeth at all, and in that situation you should be asking yourself why your reading my blog right now? is it because you want to give them a chance? see how i feel about this album? or do you just think i am soo cool that whatever i write you need to read. dont answer, i know its the ladder. this song is a true thrasher, its aggression reminds me of the KIMB songs, its already been tried and tested many times in my car, and makes me headbang while driving on the highway just as much as any other top quality thrash album does. this song is a beast 10/10. " turning the giant screw, your teeth are breaking loose, crushed and splintering into your mouth, Winding down, cutting through , Like broken glass being chewed , Your fragmented skull and shattering bones , There's nothing you can do! "

10. How the Story Ends : midpaced heavy metal song with melodic chorus. its well done , good solo. just good song 8/10

11. The Right to Go Insane : remember how dave said in mary jane " if i know i'm going crazy, then i must not be insane... woo hoo hooooo!" .. well.. i guess he dosnt think he's going crazy now. this is another mid paced heavy metal song, not thrash, melodic chorus, dave sings, but its good and interesting throughout. the end solo is cool, and it ends with one of the riffs dave teased us with a long itme ago, with yet another solo over it 8/10

i reviewed each song individually so that my bias' wouldnt interfere. now that they are all reviewed i can say what i feel about the album as a whole : i, being a fan of megadeth's thrash era, the only era that matters, was hoping that this would be a thrash album, i knew it wouldnt but, a man can always hope. the title track, this day we fight and headcrusher bring us quality oldschool megadeth, so does 1320. the rest of the songs, while not oldschool megs, are still very good, they are of the style megadeth went after countdown, mixed with a guitar playing style of countdown, and all of the songs here of that style, are better than those albums. making endgame's 90's style half, better than the 3 post countdown albums combined.

another gripe i have is that i think dave held back the agressiveness on pretty much all the songs minus this day we fight and headcrusher, the slowed down backing riffs to the melodic chorus' ( always a sign of mainstreamness) and just overall tempo of songs, another thing very noticable is that theirs always an uptempo riff added in and a shred solo at the last minute or so of each song, as if dave is appologizing for the song being too tame and giving us a little something.

these gripes aside, i was very pleased with this album, i thought system has failed and UA only had 2 good songs each ( sleepwalker + washington is next, and die dead enough + kick the chair) , but i can honestly say that all the songs here are good, bite the hand that feeds gets dangerously close to bad, but just makes it.

tallying up the points, ENDGAME GETS : 94/110 (11*10 being max) = 85.45 % = 8.5

id say its arguably better than countdown.

thx for reading.

My New SETAR!

my grandma just came to stay with us from Iran yesterday, and to my great surprise ( yeah ive hinted at it for years but hadnt for a while) my grandma brings me a high end Setar ( not to be confused with the Indian Sitar) ..

my Setar!

MAYHEM FEST ... RAWRARARr

mayhem was awesome, left for it at 12pm, got home at 12 at night.

of the bands the only good ones were behemoth, cannibal corpse and of course.. SLAYER!!!!!!!!!

slayer played an hour, the other bands played 45 minutes.

we only got to see 3 of behemoth's songs since we were in line to get Cannibal Corpses autographs at their signing ( i went with benevolent bob, ( RL friend :P) he loves CC)) but we heard them all since they were playing pretty close, it was good. im definately goin to listen to them now. i was impressed.

pretty much cannibal corpse was pretty good and thats saying a lot coming from me, because im sure many of you know that im personally not a fan of corpsegrinders vocals.. altho i have gotten used to them now, i even think they are ok now, but id still love to be able make out at least some of the things he says, but thats hard to do live with most metal bands if you dont already know the songs and lyrics. i really liked their music playing, and they were overall just very good live.

anyways CC had a mosh pit ever 20 square feet, it was insane, someone threw a gallon of milk, opened into the air very high and it came down pouring, i got at least 2 beers spilt on me, people were also throwing the trash cans around, very funny. i saw at least 3 ppl with bloody heads during the concert.

WE EVEN RECOGNISED AND BOB GOT AN AUTOGRAPH FROM THIS GUY, WHO WE RECOGNISED FROM JUDGE JUDY, HE'S A SINGER OF SOME METAL BAND CALLED SKITZO, WHO GOT SUED FOR GETN A GIRL ON STAGE AND VOMITING ON HER.

OK.. NOW TIME FOR SLAYERRRRRR!

slayer played, again, for an hour. they played 8, count them 8 good songs, good songs being ****c songs, cuz .. seriously.. post Seasons slayer is an absolute joke that is a mix of groove metal and nu metal. altho psychopathy red is ok, and a little comeback to thrash, its THE SAME RIFF THE ENTIRE SONG and then a little breakdown., altho it was way bttr than god hates us all and the about 5 other new garbage songs they played, the other 4 i didnt even recognise cuz ive only listened to the post seasons albums once.. and once was enough.

the songs they played were - in this order. ( im only mentioning the good ones cuz thats all i remember and want to remember) 1. war ensemble 2. mandatory suicide . 3. chemical warfare 4. dead skin mask 5. hell awaits ( no intro with the join us + WELCOME BACK :( ) 6. angel of death 7. ENCORE - south of heaven - 8. raining blood

about 25 minutes of the hour ( yes i kept track of time) was the bad songs, luckily the bad songs were the beggining, war ensemble was the 2nd song, then after chemical warfare their was another bad song, but dead skin mask was the beginning of the ****cs. until dead skin mask , i and benevolent bob were extremely dissapointed. south of heaven and raining blood were amazing though, and almost all but erased the dissapointment, i was banging my head along for full duration to those 2 end songs nonstop , with the tempo... raining blood nearly wrecked my neck.

i wouldve loved to see any of these songs substituted for the garbage they played , these songs are often played live as well : the antichrist, die by the sword, captor of sin ( how did they not play this? ) , seasons in the abyss, jesus saves, necrophobic, postmortem ( seriously, raining blood always needs postmortem before it ) , agressive perfector.

i came out of the concert(s) very pleased in the end, i got a slayer tour shirt, a mayhem magazine ( with all the bands bio's and stuff ) with the cannibal corpse page signed by every member of the band, and a behemoth posted signed by.. one of the guys.

cross off slayer on my list of bands to see :P

so far ive seen kreator, exodus, metallica, testament, absu, rumplestiltskin grinder, warbringer, iced earth, belphagor, opeth , enslaved, slayer, cannibal corpse, behemoth +other mayhem bands i dont rly care about and santana 2x :P

bands i still gotta see : rush, sodom, destruction, MEGADETH!!!!!!!! ( hopefully latr this year) , black sabbath , heaven and hell ( maybee end of this year, but eww coheed and cambria?) , judas priest ( skipping this years show cuz theyre gonna play british steel in its entirety.. yes.. the first bad album ( minus a few good songs) why couldnt it be stained ****in entirety? )) , iron maiden, celtic frost ( plz get back toghether ) , sepultura ( only if reunited ) and or soulfly / cavalera conspiracy, pink floyd reunited..

Testament, and a Horrible Experience

so me and benevolentbob saw testament tonight, in san fransisco at the fillmore. we parked in a safeway parking lot conviniently down the road from the venue (awesome parking right?) WRONG.. i got towed, 375 dollar ticket, had to call my parents to pick us up and drive us to the towing place ( they had to drive 40 minutes at 12:30 at night after i woke them up from sleep. my dad is pissed as FUK at me, and i feel like the biggest piece of crap ever.

i'll review the concert soon, since it was awesome. but right now, i just need some pity over the internet.

To All Metalheads (and or music lovers)

ok so i want to offer this to all my fellow metalhead friends on OT, and or anyone else that has a lot of music, gets a lot of music.. and knows how to use their computer/ is willing to follow some rules for huge bennefit.

i have 4 invites to what.cd right now, and i want to offer them to all you guys. id prefer to give them to people with a lot of music to offer, someone who wants to get a lot of music, someone with a fast connection speed and time to seed ( you need to maintain ratio).

if you dont know what what.cd is, google it. let me just say it puts piratesbay and demonoid to shame. neon tiger can tell you how good it is, as i got him into it the other week and he's already off the ground running

if you want in, send me a PM with your email adress, how much music you have, a speedtest.net link, and why you think i should give you an invite

invites will be semi first come first serve, i will give them to ppl i like better / ppl better suited, but when they run out they run out, i get 2 a month tho.

Opeth + Enslaved 5/14/09 San Fransisco Concert Review

ok so to start this off... the TOUR SHIRTS :P

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q270/afflictor/IMG_0769.jpg

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q270/afflictor/IMG_0770.jpg

and also an enslaved poster ( it was free) and not to forget, the demo tape ( cd) handed out once i got outside by a upstart prog metal band camping outside. their instrumental playing is fine, interesting even but their vocalist kills them.

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q270/afflictor/IMG_0771.jpg

anyways.. your here for either the review.. or because you just think i am soo cool and smart and or i have great opinions on the religion threads / good taste in music.. anyways whatever.. this blog is about this concert.

let me say i had not listened to enslaved AT ALL before going to this, so i went in with an open mind. Enslaved played 45 minutes, it felt like it went by fast.. it kinda did.. the first two songs were alright, but their third song was amazing, and from then on i was very impressed, i came out an Enslaved fan.

Enslaved had a lot of sound problems, i even read a concert review before i went, and it said in new york they had problems too. at one point the bass feedbacked soo loud i swear i almost went deaf, a crew guy ran onto stage while they were playing midsong and turned the amp down.. at another point for about 2 minutes the bass got loud for like..2 minutes, when i mean loud i dont mean ( omg yay u can actually hear the bass) i mean it was louder than the dual guitar attack and it drowned out the poor lead players 1 minute + solo lol.

after that song the guy was getting his bass switched, and here is a joke Tzar would love . the bass player said " while they are fixing my bass, you guys want to hear a joke? How many Black Metal guys does it take to screw in a lightbulb? .... well it takes one to screw in the bulb and another to ..."**bass feedback** then the vocalist said " wasnt that a great joke?

Now its time for Opeth.. during the 30 minutes of downtime between bands and the country music they put on the speakers their were 2 things on my mind 1. wow enslaved owns and .. 2. omfg its soo crowded in here ( the place was packed to the pont where u couldnt move more than 3 inches to the left or the right.) their was some arab guy behind me leaning on me.. awesome stuff... by the time i got out my kreator tour shirt that i wore there was drenched, dried and drenched again.

opeth blew everyone away. it was absolutely amazing, the timing of the slow songs was perfect in between the faster ones.. Michael is really funny too. he asked us if he thought opeth was real death metal or just **** death metal... i was closish to the front and yelled out that they are prog rock with growls.. a lot of people turned around lol.. the energy level was pretty high at times, only maybee 3-4 songs had moshes, and compared to exodus / kreator they were **** moshes, especially since their were 2-3x the people on the floor here even.. but hey its not that kinda music.. and i hate moshing anyways.. exodus' wall of death during the whole set i was getn pushed into the barrior and elbowed in the face :( during opeth i was banging my head at a point and some guy got pushed from in front of me and we bashed heads, it hurt a lot.

anyways between michael's jokes and the amazing live playing with NO SOUND PROBLEMS.. id give their live perfornance an A. its very hard to play this kind of prog music and keep people's attention live and they pulled it off perfectly..

if i had to compare this to kreator, i came out just as pleased with both, i like kreator as a band better and it was more energetic / exciting / less hot.. but i reccomend seeing opeth to just about anyone from death metal fans, to prog rock fans to metal / rock fans in general.. if you want to go to your first metal concert this might as well be it, wont be too much moshing, and if you want to ease into death metal this is probly the band to do that.

hope you enjoyed.
