@ZwaanME: Thanks for the context regarding the ALF. I know they have that reputation, but we don't hear a lot of specific stories in the US. As someone who feels strongly about animal rights the myth of "peaceful eco-terrorists" can seem alluring.
I personally could identify and empathize with almost every character in the movie, including Lucy Mirando, Mija, and even her grandpa. I do agree that Gyllenhaal overdid it. He's a weird guy to start with, though.
@RedWave247@Smosh150: Agreed. I don't mind the differences from the books much. (They're 20 years old and a different medium after all.) I will warn that the first season took a while to get where it was going--some viewers found it slow. I loved where it ended up though, and season 2 is even better so far.
@ZwaanME: You have some valid criticisms for sure. I also found the golden pig thing to be a pretty obvious McGuffin. The thing I disagree with you on is the central premise that the "super pigs" are more efficient, more green, eat less, whatever you want to call it--given thatthey reveal later in the movie that the super pigs are in fact mutated pigs created through genetic experimentation, it seems plausible to me that they'd have unnatural properties (like eating less, having more babies, etc. That was kind of part of the point.
@merwanor: Agreed. I wonder how similar these creatures' behavior is to real pigs -- I'm guessing real pigs aren't quite that smart. But in a way, that's not really the point anyway.
