Why is everyone going all gloom doom on this?? Let's just wait and see what MS does. I'm speculating that they are restructuring the pricing for Game Pass to be front and center or possible online multiplayer to be free. Hopefully, it's the latter.
@Jinzo_111887: You know I finally just bought my first game off Epic (John Wick Hex) last month after getting every free game they offered since they started the Epic Launcher. I figured since I've built a decent library on the Epic launcher now with the Rocksteady Batman games, Metro, Borderlands, GTA 5, etc.; I figured why not. The sales are pretty good (especially with that $10 off on top) and the launcher looks like it's here to stay.
Maybe others have finally purchased some games on the Epic launcher.
@cage_92: Game discounts for newer released games and physical does let you loan out your games to friends or family where game sharing can only be done with one other person's console. So physical/retail still has those benefits
@sty1e_bender: Now you're bringing up streaming. Unfortunately this is MS's department. They have the infrastructure to make this happen. So who is the one benefiting if Sony is the one banging on MS's door to help out with cloud and streaming.
It's funny you bring up Netflix, HBO, etc. and how people don't even own a single movie or show. That's pretty much what Game Pass is. Is Sony's Playstation Now successful? From what I hear and read, it's not because it's totally dependent on your internet and the newer games don't come onto the service for a while. I know that Game Pass is successful for the Xbox because all games are downloadable and all new 1st party games are released right then and there on Game Pass.
Market share means nothing when a new console era starts. Think of N64 and Playstation where Nintendo dominated with SNES prior, PS3 and 360 where PS2 dominated the Xbox and Nintendo GameCube. The PS3 ended up catching up to the 360 and taking lead at the end of the generation but it sure as hell didn't dominate.
You believe that Sony is ready but at the same time, MS is ready too.
@sty1e_bender: What are you talkiing about with iTunes and Zune???? iTunes came when the iPod was introduced years before the Zune. ...and Spotify? What? You need to check your history. On top of that, this has nothing to do with an all digital-console.
How about thinking a long these lines. Was the Kinect successful? Was the PlayStation Camera successful? Was an all digital Xbox One S successful? Will a all digital PS5 be successful?
Will the average consumer be turned off at the fact that they can't purchase physical games that go on sale more often at a brick & mortar such as Best Buy, Target, Amazon, etc. than it's digital counter-part. How about being told that they can't actually buy the game that's on the shelf and use it on that particular all digital PS5 they just placed in the shopping cart valued at $500. But hey you can buy this $600 version which will play those discs.
These are things to consider. You can't just assume the average consumer is going to accept being digital only when you can have the option of both physical & digital but at the cost of $600. What will next-gen's consumer do? I don't know 🤷♀️
@uberDave: Why are you stating something in quotes and replying to me. In no way what you just posted makes any sense in this post tree. Go re-read your comment and correct it or change it.
