The game is awesome - it actually shows you CAN make a GREAT licensed game. The plot is awesome and everything a fan could want from this game - it's the great "episode" and I was afraid it will be fail like 17th or 15th season, but I was wrong.
Mechanics are ok - they're not revolutionary, but after playing the game, I wouldn't change one thing about it - also, when there was a good RPG with turn-based system? It's better than that Final Fantasy crap. Well, ok I would change one thing, and that is block, and I don't mean block when enemies attack, but before it - maybe I'm too early into the game, but I will give simple example. When you are with Butters, only you have bow, but when enemy gets "counter" and only you have bow, and Butters is out of action points, there is no other way than to get hit with him, wasting your cheesy poofs goodnes.
Also, it's probably easy, because as always on wussspot, reviewer played it on easy just to "get over it", because fights with hobos were pretty demanding. This and Kotaku reviews are the most retarded. Also, if it's easy, then that guy from this garbage written on DK:TF should review it - he could enjoy it.
I don't regret buying it because I've got what I expected from the previews and what I wanted - turn-based RPG with awesome and funny story.
@gonetoyourhaed @thekeepersrule explained it, but I can see why would you say that it is immature. But you wanna know what is tasteless? Heard of Ukraine? You know, that country where Russia came in to stop the whole shit which was going on for 3 months? Well, Glamour was smart and great, so in the ocassion of that, which is hip know, they've made an article how to look good when revolting. I'm not even kidding.
That's fucking tasteless and offensive. This on the other hand is just stupid video game and the location is a brothel, so of course the tits must be there.
@xantufrog I play it on PS3 and the load times are pretty fast - 15 sec tops. There are some framerate issuses, but it's not that bad. The loading times were worse in Dishonored actually.
As for the hook - press and hold the button instead of jumping - it was a pain for me too, before I figured you don't have to run for it.
The game is not bad, and the structure of the game, being identical to Deadly Shadows is actually... justified. I know it sounds like making excuses for the game, but I will explain that.
So first the goods - you really feel like Thief and it has the right mood. The swoop is not broken (blink in Dishonored was biggest exploit). The AI is not blind - by the reviews, I expected something as bad as Blacklist or Deadly Shadows, but here? On master they will notice you even in "perfect" shadow. I would say it is what is to be expected from stealth game - it's not the best, but also it's not broken. And the atmosphere is here too. It's a good game. As for the plot - it's barely anything worth writing, just like Dishonored - it's just there to keep the things going. And when you will get screwdriver and other gadgets, it opens more ways to sneak around.
But there is also bad and I really hope they are now working 24/7 on patches. First The City - I've said that the atmosphere is good, but the problem is, too feel it 100%, you MUST read notes, because some things can be not that obvious or explained in detail. That's what Dishonored did better - it not only told you what is happening, but also SHOWED. You saw the people dying on streets, what was happening in the city while the Queen was dead. Here, you are "robbing for the poor" (or yourself... if you want to), but other characters are assholes. I mean, in Dishonored you knew they will bite you in the ass it was that obvious, but here Bosso is an asshole, Erin is an annoying asshole you don't care about... and they're suppoused to be on your side.
While having that out of the way, let's go for the more technical screw ups of this game.
The best advices I can give you are don't turn off saves and don't save in tunnels or anything other than big room or outside, because then you're SOL. The game is glitchy as hell and if you will be stupid enough to save in vents, sooner or later the game will bite you in the ass and make you stuck like in Skyrim before the patches. And this game on consoles is stingy with saves, because it does have one autosave and one manual... so when that happens pray to god it didn't autosaved in the vents. It's overall glitchy, I bought rope arrow from the shopkeeper, he took the money, but the item is nowhere to be found. I don't know, maybe I'm missing something here. If they would go with big city without loading times and only them being in getting into the houses, the game would be even more buggy mess.
Optimalization - my God it's bad. When I saw 260 as minimum, I though that was a joke to probably make people run for new graphic cards, but... Well, you will be lucky if it won't shit out on you on medium on gtx 460 with 30 FPS if you're lucky. And the graphics are not that stunning - they're good, but it's not greatness. On previous generation, i.e. PS3/360 it has pretty bad framerate issues and screentearing. Also, I don't know if some of the cutscenes are choppy because they've gone for something artsy or it's just this bad on consoles.
Audio mastering/mixing/music - holy crap. The music ranges from ok to... out of their ass. At the beginning you are greeted with some nice symphonic tracks to get you in the mood, you have the feeling for stealing, and then, out of nowhere BAM! It goes full Deus Ex on you which taken me out of the game by surprise. It is sometimes immersion breaking. VA is... bland, and really bad at times, but my biggest issue is the mix/mastering. They screwed it up royally - at times you will barely hear what people are saying or there will be no sound at all. You are sneaking slowly, watching out for the cameras, you die, then game over screen shows up and then the sound is so goddamn loud it can give you Amnesia or Dead Space experience. And when you go back, it's quiet again.
But audio issues aside, there is a bigger problem - and that is loot. Pens... and golden scissors. That will be most of your loot to steal. It's beyond me why you need wire cutter when you have assload of scissors in your pocket.
If you missed and starved for Thief game like me, then go buy it, but don't go with easy or normal or even master - go for master, turn most of the things off, and you will have Thief experience you waited for, there are a lot of thing to keep you busy, like side quests - the first chapter with SQ took me around 4 hrs. It's not the greatest game ever, or the best Thief, but for what it is, it's a good game.
@shingui5 @nl_skipper @komuchen @Brakkyn Maybe I'm wrong with my "nostlagia glasses" or something, but the closest and best AI I saw was in the first FEAR game - on hardest difficulty theye were really acting like soldiers, trying to flank you, look for another route to sneak up on your ass with a shotgun.
