Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!! Game Day

I so love game day, I mean payday.  No, I mean game day, because that is what Friday is all about.  I picked up seven yes count them 7 games today.  I got Kuon, Far Cry Instincts, Castlevania lament of innocence, Devil May cry 3 collectors edition, Primal, vampire Night and Drakan which was actually a title my 5 year old picked because of the dragons I think.  Are ya ready for the total?  Are ya sure?  75 dollars including tax at the pawn shop!!!!!!!!!  OMG I did the happy dance all the way home.

Devil May Cry 3.  NOw, I truly loved devil may cry, and no not because Dante is hot, because it was an awesome game.  I have not played 2 yet, nor have I been able to find it in a pawn shop anywhere, so this one is getting shelved for now.

Primal, Got a  not bad review from gamespot, got some crappy player reviews, got some great player reviews, but I am running out of horror games so I am going backwards a little.  Sounds interesting if nothing else and the screen shots on the box look good.  I will let ya know.

Kuon, got crappy reviews but was reccomended by one of my horror survival game friends which is good enough for me.  If I don't like it, I can shelve it, I think it sounds pretty cool and all horror games set in Japan have to be good.  I think there is a law or something.

Castlevania- lament of innocence-disappearing fiance, knight of the clergy, vampires, nuff said!!

Vampire night- you have to love the never ending war between good and evil don't ya?  we will see about this one, sounds awesome, reviews were good, I will let ya know.

Drakan-note to self, never take my son to pawnshop.  Oh well it got good reviews and who doesn't like dragons?

Far Cry Instincts- the game every FPS player but me owns.  Well, not anymore.  Finally snagged one at the pawnshop and about damn time, thought I was gonna have to break down and fork out retail for this game.  My friends are actually starting to make fun of me because A) I am cheap and B) because now there is a second chapter out and I haven't played the first one yet.

Different Consoles

I own 4 diffent consoles right now, ps, ps2, gamecube and an xbox (well, 2 xboxes) and I have been thinking about which to get, the 360 or wait for the ps3.  That being said, I like all the consoles that I have, and I like each one for different reasons, so I am thinking that I should get both a 360 and ps3.  My husband tends to dissagree because as he says, where does it end.  Will I eventually have to own one of every console on the market.  And, unfortunately, he has a valid point. So I am making a list of all my consoles and why I like each one and I would appreciate comments from all of you as to what you think.

Gamecube:  I won this recently, but I have to say it is very child friendly.  There are tonnes of kids titles for this console.  I also like the simplified controller both for myself and for my son.  It is also a very small unit, and it is quiet.  The downside of this console I think is graphics mostly, I don't think they are as good as the other consoles.  And of course, the external memory card which has always been my pet peeve.

PS1:  I like this console just because it was truly the first console to bring in a whole new generation of gaming.  The graphics are good, the controller is ok, there were tonnes of awesome titles.  I played my very first silent hill game on this console.  The downside, it's loud, it's is and always was very tempermental and of course the external memory card.

PS2:  This has been a very good console.  It was originally purchased for my son and dh so that they would leave my xbox alone, but I have grown to like this console enough to put it in my gameroom.  This console responds well, the controllers are very good, graphics are good, and there are titles that I would not have been able to get for xbox like FF3 which makes me very grateful that I have one. I also love the built in dvd player.  Which works exceedingly well btw. Downside, this console is loud when changing chapters and stuff and once again the freaking external memory card.  All in all though, I think this is a really good console.

Xbox:  Honestly, this is my favorite console for a number of reasons.  It has been uber reliable, it is quiet, I love the controller, I just like the way it feels in my hand.  Halo, and Halo 2.  I absolutely love the internal memory, although I have had to buy a memory card anyway for the games that the internal memory does not support.  Microsofts  customer support is fantastic.  Downfalls:  It is big, and I had to buy a DVD device to play dvd's in the xbox.  I have also heard that playing dvd's shortens the lifespan of the console.

I have the money to actually buy all three new consoles, wii, ps3 and xbox 360.  I would say a wii is out of the question, I just have no desire for one.  But the other two, I could have both and that may happen, but really do I need both, should I just break down and buy a 360 now and then if I like the ps3 when it is released buy it too?  Should I wait on the 360 until the unit is a little more stable?  Also, there will no doubt be a 360 price drop to coincide with the ps3 release.  OMG my head his starting to hurt.

Comments please, thank you

Auction Tonight

There is an auction house in the small town where I live and they have an auction every Wednesday.  So I went to the preview yesterday and there is a cardboard box filled with video games.  I saw both xbox and ps2 games as well as ps1.  Don't know what else is in there.  Now, most of the people that go to this auction are like 60 and 70 years old, so odds are good I am gonna be able to get this box of games for a very reasonable price.  The problem is, they would not let me take the games out of the box to see what was in there or what condition they were in.  I know a guy that can resurface the games so I am not really worried about that, but I have over 70 games already so odds are good I am gonna have several duplicates in the box.  Should I bid on it?  I think yes because whatever I don't keep I can always sell.

Demo Discs.

I am a huge fan of demo discs.  If I can check out the game before hand it often times saves me 50 or 60 bucks going to buy a game because the name was cool, or it sounded so much better than in acutallity it is.

Xbox Magazine put out a cheap demo this month with only one game for xbox and 360.  However, I will forgive them because the xbox demo is Hitman Blood Money.  I like the hitman games for a myriad of reasons (possibly I have some hidden issues LOL) and this one has been hyped pretty good so I wanna see if it is as good as it looks.  I have my doubts, but I will probably find out before the end of the week.  I find that when games are pushed and pushed it is because the publisher knows they are not that great.  Just my opinion.  Look at Black.  A good game, not a great game and the demo saved me 50 bucks.

Playstation Magazine put out a huge demo this month including Tombraider Legend .Not a big fan of the whole tomb raider thing, but I always try the demo's and have to say this one was not half bad.  I might actually pick up this game.  Lara seems to have more moves this time and the controls seemed a lot more fluid than they were before.  Or maybe I was just such a noob when I started playing I just didn't think she could do all the stuff she could.  Just goes to show that it doesn't hurt to go back and re-visit some of the demos you have sitting around.  Maybe as gaming skills evolve different games will appeal to a person.  Also on the disc Fight Night round 3, Arena Football, Amplitude, Gitaroo Man, Frequency, rez, and MTV music Generation 3, which sounds pretty cool so I will probably run it next.

Speaking of gaming dollars, it does seem to be getting easier to get some bang for your buck now that xbox360 has come out.  Even the pawn shops have dropped prices by a couple of dollars.  And I found a video rental store in delhi that was going out of business and made a deal for 30 games at 5 dollars a piece.  I got 30 days to try them all and if they are all good, pay the guy or whatever is not good(playable) take back and he will take off the price.  Lately, unless it is something that I just have to have right now, I will buy it used.

I Won a Gamecube!!!

I won a gamecube system at an in store promotion on Monday, which is a bonus because my dh and son are complaining that I am using the ps2 to much.  FF3 you know.  So the system consisted of gamecube, xtra controller, memory card and a game of my choice up to $40 dollars.  I got pokemon colloseum for my son (he's five).  So it's all good, I am playing fatal frame 3 and my son comes running into my gameroom all mad because there is tonnes of reading in the game.  Dude, did I mention he is 5.  So I go and check out the game and sure enough every thing involves reading.  What a joke.  So, not impressed with the E for everyone because everyone would involve 5 year olds and five year olds don't read well enough to play this game.

Why do games never come out when they are supposed too?

Yes I realize I am talking to myself, but come on.  Why oh why do they get us all built up that a certain game like say, oh i dunno, HELLWARS is coming out on a certain day and then like the day before go "oh sorry it is pushed back again"  Like for the 200th time.  I am sooooooooooooooooo tired of waiting for this game.  Of course my annoyance and dissapointment is not going to be enough to keep me from buying it.  I just want it right now.  Ok whine is over.

Got pretty much nothing done today.  Busy having my pity party about what the doctor said still.  Hope I get over it soon and start dealing with the realities of the situation.  Gotta start getting information on this type of arthritis and what I can take for it.  FN allergies.  I can't take any anti-inflamatories so other than pain killers what else can I do?  I unno?

FInally started FF3 again.

I have been saving Fatal Frame 3.  Just letting the idea of playing it roll around in my head for a while.  Why?  Because the build up to the game is almost as good as the game itself.  All I have to say is not bad for a 3peat.  FF1 was a spectacular game in the sense of gameplay value, FF2 was spectacular from a graphic standpoint and still a very very good game FF3 so far has left me saying "oh this again"  It isn't boring, but it is a lot of the same stuff just in a different location.  It is a good game and I am enjoying it, I dunno, I guess I just expected more.

I am playing area 51 on the xbox.  I hate it that you cannot invert the controller.  Left handed people should not own this game.  It is driving me nuts to the point where I may just pack it in and play something else.  To bad, bucause annoyances aside, so far it is a decent shooter.  Not what I would call scarey, but a good shooter for sure.  FN controller anyway.

I am still waiting patiently(not) for hellwars.  I don't think it is ever, ever, ever gonna get released.  OMG I sound like a thirteen year old.  Oh well, 37 with no life is pretty much the same don't you think.

I gave up on morrowwind or whatever.  I have never ever been a fan of rpg's and about 40 hours into this with not even a hint of end in sight was enough.  I don't get the point.  Is there a point.  It is a graphically rich game which I think is what kept me interested as long as it did.  Say no to rpg's.  Seriously, I don't get it.  Go shoot something and go home...............Really!!

Half Life 2

I did a review for half life 2, but it is worth mentioning here also.  What a fantastic game.  I really got into it.  Played non stop for hours on end.  I have to say though in all honesty the load times were really really bad.  And the game was just to darn short.  This would be a game that if they brought a sequel out on the 360 I would consider buying a 360 just to play.  That and of course the fatal frames.  I so much prefer my xbox to my ps2.  I almost never use the ps2.

Doom 3

all I have to say is Holy **** that is one pretty scary game.  It creeped me out if nothing else.  It got a little repetative fairly quickly,  but the creepy factor made up for it in spades.  I loved it.  High marks for giving me some jump off my chair moments.

first entry

I have had my xbox since C hristmas now. It is February. It is the best present that I ever got. We live in the country and the stress of running a business, a very demanding husband and a very demanding child was really getting to me. It was get up, tend the man, tend the child, get the lunches, let the dog out, get out the work cloths, get the man off to work, work in the office all day, tend the bills, do the running around, get supper, tend the man and child some more and maybe, just maybe sit in a stuppor in front of the TV for an hour or two at night. I was getting very depressed. My mom got me the xbox for Christmas because she said she thought it would give me a pleasant diversion from the rest of my life. Please don't get me wrong, I love my family, but sometimes I really wish someone would look after me a little. Anyway, my mom was right. I love it. I try and play for at least an hour a night. Oddly, this is upsetting my husband. I guess cause I am not just sitting there when he says honey can you get me some juice or whatever anymore. I ove my Xbox and I am a much happier person.
