Heroes Union

Who here would be interested in helping me form a union for the hit NBC show Heroes? I need some charter members so if there is anyone interested let me know.  Another thing is that I don't even know if I can be the leader of a second union but I'm willing for someone else to be leader if I can just run the union as if I was leader.

No PS3 Makes Me Furious But Casino Royale Makes Me Happy

So I didn't get a PS3 on Friday but let me tell you my story.  To prepare myself for camping in line I followed a strict regime from Sunday to Wednesday to prepare myself.  This included drinking nothing but 1 bottle of water a day, having 1 meal a day such as a sandwich, and using the bathroom only 2 times a day.  This may sound extreme but I wanted to condition my body so I wouldn't get extremely hungry or have to use the bathroom frequently while waiting in line.

So on Thursday I woke up at 4AM and got to Best Buy around 4:30AM.  When I got to the site there was about 20 people in line across the street from Best Buy.  While this was more than I was expecting I decided to stay since I wanted a PS3 whether it was a 20gb or 60gb.  Well it turns out I was wrong in my estimate of there being 20 people. It turns out that people started camping out on Wednesday night around 8PM.  Those people started to make a list of everyone in line and it turns out that there was actually 45 people in line by the time I got there.

Now having a list of everyone in line is good but it is also bad.  Its good since its a way to keep people from cutting in line since everyone on the list was given a number name tag.  Having a list is bad since most of the people just drove around and occasionally came back to check their spot.  If you're going to camp out then you should stay there the entire time except for the occasional break.

So I was outside the entire time in 39 degree weather in an extemely windy enviroment.  There were some rumors of the Best Buy getting 47 units but around 3:30PM Thursday that rumor was dashed.  The Best Buy only had 34 units and since my number at that time was 39 I did not get one.  And of course most of the people who were lucky enough to be getting one were planning to sell it on Ebay.

Now here is something to show how crazy this was.  Two dudes that got to BB on Thursday around 1:00AM with a tent DID NOT GET A PS3 since they were 36 and 37 in line, thats just crazy.

I did meet some cool people and had some good conversations but when I found out I wouldn't be getting one I wanted to break the metal folding chair I had brought with me.

I really didn't bother with any other locations since at that time there was tons of people camped out already.  On Friday I did go back to Best Buy and bought Resistance and Genji 2 since I'm a complete freak and just wanted to have some PS3 games.

I saw Casino Royale yesterday and its an awesome movie.  It was a good rebirth of the Bond franchise which is headed into a very good direction.  Now of course I was highly anticipating this newest Bond entry since I'm a Bond freak and am named after Bond creator Ian Fleming.  There aren't any gadgets in the film but the action is top notch and is actually better than the other Bond films.

The new Bond Daniel Craig does an amazing job and so far is actually one of the best Bonds.  The best way to describe Casino Royale is that its kind of trying to take somewhat of the realistic yet action packed style of 24 but putting it in the Bond universe.  If you're a Bond fan you should check it out and I may do a more in depth blog post about the film in the future.

Camping Plans

So I plan on camping in front of Best Buy so I can get my PS3.  This is the first time I will be doing such a thing so I'm eagerly anticipating how the experience will be.

My plan is to go to the Best Buy at North Avenue & Sheffield, this is for all the GS users who live in Chicago, and arrive there at 8 AM Thursday morning.  I think getting to BB a full day before the launch should guarantee me somewhat of a good chance of getting a PS3.

Of course its important to bring stuff that will help your pass time when camping.  I plan on bringing my PSP and hopefully my copy of Lumines 2 will have come from Gamefly before Thursday.  I also plan on bringing some magazines and maybe a book.

Now the bad part of living in Chicago is that the weather can be pretty crappy.  For example early this week it was all nice and the temp was between 48 and 59 degrees.  But today it was 39 degrees and very windy.  So my plan on keeping warm consists of wearing some durable but stylish jeans, a heavy turtle neck with two t-shirts underneith, a winter cap, and two scarfs, one for my neck and the other to cover my face and a heavy jacket.

Now I will be camping by myself but later in the evening my mom will be coming buy to take my place in line while I sit in the car and relax for a few minutes.

So my plan may sound crazy but I really want a PS3 since I've been looking forward to it for so long.  I'll try to take some pics but I'll most definately update my blog with an overview of my experience sometime next weekend.  Perhaps I'll post my next blog via the internet browser on the PS3.

Did I Finally Go Over The Edge?

I think I may have just gone over the edge in terms of game related purchases.  I've just paid $477 for the MGS Portable Ops sepcial edition package.  Included on the package is a Camoflauge PSP, 3 pins, the game, a special PSP case and a certificate.  Now the coolest thing about this package is that the PSP case is actual snakeskin!  Man that is just crazy.  I think the price for this package is pretty justified since basically everything included is rare and is only made for this package.  I'm especially glad that this doesn't come out until Dec. 22 so that way it won't interfere with my PS3 savings.  I'll try to take some pics of it when it arrives.

Webcam

So I got my Logitech webcam in the mail today and it doesn't work with my PC!:twisted:.  So I guess I'll try to sell it and look into buying a camera or doing my crazy vhs to dvd to computer file idea to do the video stuff in my PS3 Union.

The Prestige

Today I saw the film The Prestige.  It's by far one of the best films I have seen this year.  Everything about the film from the cinematography, the story and the acting is superb.  For those out there who don't now the plot of the film, The Prestige follows two magicians in the late 19th century who begin as friends but then turn into rivals after an accident.  As the two pursue their careers their rivarly grows deadlier and affects both their personal and professional lives.

Now some may be turned off by the fact that the film is set in the 19th century but as the viewer it really doesn't feel like it does.  The film doesn't have that same 'feel' like other 19th century films do.  The reason for this is that cinematography is absolutely top notch.  The film has a very clean and crisp look to it which in a way makes it look modern except that its in the 19th century.

The story is also excellent.  There are alot of different layers to the film and the leader actors, Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, are just superb in their roles.  There is alot more to the story than you may think but I don't want to give anything away since there are two big reveals at the end of the film.

I would recommend The Prestige since its an excellent film.  If you don't want to spend $10 at the theater then you should at least rent it on DVD.  I'll probaly see The Prestige again and I'll definately buy it if its released on Blu-Ray.

Kutaragi Vs. Moore

This pic is a reference to today's news that exclusive GTA4 content would also be coming to the PS3.  The pic itself was taken off a thread from the Neogaf forums.  View the pic here

I'm Going Forward With My Concept

Gamespot has announced the fifth Developer For A Day contest and I've decided to go forward and submit my idea for a proper Batman game.  My Batman game is a continuation of Batman Begins.  I won't say alot about my concept at the moment except that it is a free roam GTA like game and it does include you doing the obvious bat-signal missions and having Wayne Manor as the game hub.  Other than those three ideas my concept is a bit different and has some interesting concepts.  I have about 14 pages so far but I still have a ton of stuff to write including two more story chapters with about 5 missions a piece plus all the technical aspects of the game I need to explain.

So hopefully I'll be able to finish it soon and I hope everyone likes it when it gets posted.  And on a final note the Scarecrow is the main enemy of Chapter 1.

1 Year Anniversary, GH2 and Killzone Liberation Impressions

Well today marks my 1 year anniversary being a member with Gamespot.  Alot has happened in the past year many of which I didn't expect.  A year ago I wasn't expecting to be at Level 27: Sheng Long, and I also didn't expect to be the leader of Gamespot's #1 PS3 union.  I'm pretty happy with how the past year has gone since I've met alot of cool people and joined some cool unions.  Hopefully this time next year will be even better.

I picked up the latest issue of OPM and the issue came with a demo of Guitar Hero 2 and a UMD demo for Killzone Liberation.  As expected GH2 is awesome except I was a bit rusty since I haven't played GH for awhile.  GH2 is what you expect, more awesome guitar madness with sweet songs.

Killzone Liberation is actually a solid game.  I was a bit disappointed when it was announced the game was using an over heard view similar to Metal Gear Acid.  I still think the game would've benefited from having a behind the shoulder 3rd person view.  The demo is a bit short but its fun.  The visuals are sharp and the controls are pretty tight.  Aiming slightly takes awhile to get a hang of but after your second enemy encounter its easy to take down enemies.  The overhead camera does present some problems when you can't see your enemies and when they're firing homing missles at you.  I was pretty impressed with the game and may even pick it up when its released at the end of October.

Iron Man, Switch Unit and New Sound System Help

Well it was announced yesterday that Robert Downey Jr is playing Tony Stark/Iron Man.  I think this is an interesting choice.  First of all I'm happy the studio picked an excellent actor to play Iron Man since I'm a big Iron Man fan.  I think Robert is going to bring alot of dimension to the character since he can have that playful charm that Tony Stark has and still be very serious.  I'm just wondering who is going to play the Mandarin, the films villian.  I'm hoping it'll be either an actor like Andy Lau or Tony Leung.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good component switch box for my tv.  I'm running out of outlets to hook all my equipment up to and I don't want to go out and buy one only to find out its garbage.  So if anyone can recommend a good one that would be really cool.

And now to my stupid question of the day.  I am planning on buying a proper sound system, like this one for example.  Now here is my question, how would I connect a system like this to my tv if I was planning on hooking my PS3 up through HDMI?  Would I connect my optical cable from my PS3 to the receiver of the sound system and then just hook up some component cables from the receiver to the tv?  I basically have no clue on this subject since the sound system I have currently is made for consoles so any help would be greatly appreciated.
