The tumbling of the game industry
by hendrix29 on Comments
Well, I think today I've realized something that I should have known long, long ago. Money is the only thing that makes the world go round in the eyes of video game developers. For gamers, playing that quality, lovable game, is everything, and one developer satisfied me to the brim with excellent game after excellent game, and I'm sure you can all guess that was Bioware. The fact that Bioware/Pandemic has been bought by EA has finally made me realize that the game industry is a mess, and will eventually be a monopoly, with EA being the world-power.
It's simply not fair anymore, EA can do anything with Bioware, one of the greatest RPG developers of all time. Turn them into a Mass Effect spinoff churning machine, making 4 to 5 sub-quality games a year. R.I.P. Bioware, one of the greatest videogame companies of all time gave me plenty of memories, such as the excellent KOTOR, the beautiful and exotic Jade Empire, and the addicting and moddable Neverwinter Nights. Now, the videogame industry is in shock, and it's changed dramatically. I hope, somehow that EA manages to topple under all its weight.
By the way, here's a thread on the bioware forums about the press release of this acquisition, and you can tell ALL of Bioware's fans are outraged. In fact, currently I haven't read a single happy reply. What are your thoughts on the breaking of a once near-invincible company?
Union Blog Project

Do I even need to talk about it?
by hendrix29 on Comments
Short blog today, simply because it's more of announcement of awesome than anything.
Halo 3 is fantastic.
There I said it, and I don't want to act like a fanboy or anything, but this is easily the best game I've played since Oblivion, and Oblivion could be my favorite, if not one of my favorite games ever. Halo 3 is simply that good. I will end up my review of it soon, once I finish with single-player, test out the co-op, play more with some custom game types, forge, and play a bit more multiplayer. I've played a good 15 hours of everything so far, and I don't think there will be an end in sight. Again, it's just that good. Feel free to express your opinions on it in the comments section, but you won't sway my view :P
(Of course, this is before I've played the Cortana level, which I've heard is terrible, so maybe my mind will change).
An example of the problematic "New and Improved" GS Review system
by hendrix29 on Comments
Well, I've stumbled upon two games that are considered GOTY contenders, but we may have known which game was better in the first place had we had a little something like the older GS review system in place before. The two games I'm talking about are the PC's magnificent World In Conflict, and the 360's climactic Halo 3. Both scored the same, 9.5. However, with an older, and smarter gamespot review system in place, these games may not be all to similar. The difference between a 9.5 game with gamespot's old review skill can be as much as .4 percentage points. That may not sound like a lot, but if you look at it like this: Halo 3 could have scored 9.3, while World in Conflict could have scored 9.7, that's a legitimate difference.
Yes, I know, does it really matter? Obviously, they are two different games, but with the old review system, it would make it far easier to figure which game gamespot liked better, and the only way we'll find out is the game of the year ceremonies...if it comes down to those two games. What do you guys think about this issue, and do you know any other games that fit under the category of being faulted from gamespot's "wonderful" new review system?
Idea: Gamespot Community Magazines Union
by hendrix29 on Comments
I thought of a strong idea for a gamespot union that could be very ambitious. If you are an ambitious and very active gamespot member, please listen to this idea. Basically, my idea is for a union that would play host to many different magazines and newspapers to serve as a network toward other unions and the like. Basically, for those unions who want to create magazines, people at the Community Magazines Union would help out toward there cause, along with playing host to their magazine at the union so that it could be a seperate place to showcase a union outside of the union itself.
For example, each issue of the Union Leader Council's Union Ledger could be posted at this community magazines union, and it would provide ample opportunity for others to read it, along with getting other writers involved in creating the magazine. Want to make the gamespot sports magazine, now you can, and you'll be able to have every issue critiqued by gamespot members, and talented writers. So, what do you guys think about the idea? If someone wants to make it, contact me, and I'll fill you in on a few more ideas I have. Otherwise, do what you want with the idea, and please, take it seriously and make the union active.

A bit of an update

Inspector Tequila, I'm surprised!

I can't tell you how much fun I've been having with the Stranglehold demo. It's one of those things you'd never expect much of, but it really turns out to be something really nice. It just looks straight out of an action movie with some of the stunts you can do, but I can't help feeling it's one of those games that will be left out by me and many others this holiday season. Heck, with all the games this year, I'm on a bit of a budget, and only the best is what I'll buy(and although it's a fantastic demo, I'm even a bit hesistant on BioShock). So, although that may be the case with Stranglehold, I can't help but feeling a bit of remorse to the games that I've skipped and haven't yet to play in the past few years. Among these are:
1) Indigo Prophecy- Ever since I played the demo of it on Xbox, I knew this game was the type for me, since I love narrative stories with a bit of interactivity, and this one had a top-notch story. Too bad that I was a bit late at pulling the trigger, and although I look for it in game stores, for some reason there's always that OTHER game to buy.
2) Psychonauts- Another cult hit, and again I played the demo on this one. I'm not even sure what compelled me to skip this at all, the game seemed so quirky and fantastic that maybe it was just too quirky and fantastic.
3) Half-Life- Yes, you are going to literally shoot me on this one, because I've missed out on the original Half-Life, and there is no way I should have done that. I guess I--er... haven't had the time, or something.
Well, that's it, although I'm sure there's more, I just haven't remembered them :P. I really should be looking for these on the internet though, instead of writing on this blog about them.
It's been a year!
by hendrix29 on Comments
Well, it's been a year anniversary since I've made my gamespot account, and I'm glad I did. Back last August when I made the account, I had no clue what a union was, nor what on the spot was, nor did I have any gamespot friends . Now I'm happy with my place on gamespot, and I can't wait to see how gamespot improves during my second year!
