Whoa, I'm blogging!

I don't know if it was just that I never could think of a topic to blog on, or that I just couldn't find the time. Maybe a little of both. Anyways, I'm still here and kickin'. Work has been busy lately, though things are beginning to slow down now that we are into late fall/winter. Not as many live remote broadcasts, and now that election season is over, we don't have to worry about getting a buy for a darned political ad every 5 minutes. We've been extra busy these past few weeks because, as of Friday (11/14) our flagship station is now streaming online. Getting it set up was a bit of a chore, having to go through about 5 different people just to get something approved, or to get an answer on something was annoying, so hopefully things will calm down now that we have it up and running. Anyways, enough of my bickering about work, heh. My current favorite show is still The Big Bang Theory, I probably have watched the episodes on my DVR multiple times over, and it still doesn't get old to me. Family Guy has been somewhat strong for the past couple episodes, the latest one in particular "The Man With Two Brians" is pulling an 8.5 with the users, and, at least in my mind, is one of the stronger episodes in the past few years. This Sunday (November 16th), "Tales of a Third Grade Nothing" marks the last new episode until some time in December. There are no new episodes on November 23rd (because of 24), or the 30th (not sure why). I purchased a couple limited edition Family Guy lithographs, one for "Something, Something, Something, Dark Side", and one for "Blue Harvest." I've only got one in so far Gaming-wise, this time of the year is always brutal. It seems like a ton of new games are coming out all at the same time. In the past few weeks, I've purchased Dead Space, Fable II, Gears of War 2, and Call of Duty: World at War. Not to mention there are still games I want! Yikes. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, and Fallout 3, which are already out, and Left 4 Dead, which is out next week. As for my favorite sports teams... at least I still have the Pistons and Wings. Oh, and I almost forgot, new banner. Peace, -Fish

So yeah, Football...

I had hope for this season. It's pretty much gone now. That's all I have to say about that. Anyways, the TV.com Pick-em contest is pretty fun, and I'm doing fairly decent. This week I went against everyone and took the Niners at Seattle, and it payed off. If I would have stuck with my original picks for this week, I would have had 11 wins. At the last minute, I switched the Carolina/Chicago game, and for some ungodly reason, the Detroit/Green Bay game. Finally getting back into the TV season, which is good news. Checked out Fringe and True Blood and liked them both, probably not enough to drop everything I am doing to watch, but enough to schedule a DVR recording. Not to mention Fringe is on when I'm working. My most favorite show from last year, The Big Bang Theory, starts up on Monday. I picked up the Season 1 DVD last week, and just finished up watching it. It only had one extra feature besides the episodes themselves, which was kind of disappointing. I always enjoy DVD commentaries, but this one doesn't have them. Oh well, maybe next season. Family Guy kicks off Season 7 on September 28th for three episodes, then takes a break as the MLB playoffs take over on FOX. And of course Lost doesn't start until after the first of the year :( On to other things, after blogging about it a looooong time ago, I finally bought myself a new camera. I picked up a Nikon D40 digital SLR. This baby is slick. I didn't want to jump into a higher-priced advanced model camera just yet, because I'm just used to using point-and-shoots. I'm getting the hang of it, and I really like shooting in Aperture-priority mode. Like before, I'll pimp my flickr page  http://www.flickr.com/photos/radiofish Here is a sample:
This is the sign that is on the fence surrounding the AM tower and transmitter behind our building. Other than that, I picked up Rock Band 2 on Sunday, and am already enjoying it more than the original Rock Band. I like that they just make it one tour mode, so you can play a little of the tour by yourself, or with friends later on. Oh, and I guess that the folks at work were getting tired of updating their own pages on our station, so I got stamped with the "Webmaster" tag earlier this week. This past weekend was my weekend off this month, but oh no, my email inbox was already jammed with changes to our websites. Oh joy. later, -Fish

What is a "Day Off"?

We are still in the thick of summer, and I haven't had a singly day off since 4th of July weekend. I am exhausted. Every time that I am scheduled to have a day off on a weekend, I get pushed into another weekend event (remote broadcast). Now, I don't mind doing these events. Hell, they are normally only two hours long, and we get a nice talent fee for each appearance. But when you start to string over a month of days together, it gets a little ridiculous. Like this coming weekend, I was supposed to have Saturday and Sunday off, but now I need to work on Saturday. :( If you want to check out what goes on at one of these weekend events, check out my Flickr page to see a few of the most recent events. More specifically, the "Remote Broadcast" set on the right-hand side. Here is one from this past Sunday (August 3rd) at the Northwestern Michigan Fair south of Traverse City I was hoping to get more info out of comic-con from the Family Guy gang, but not much was revealed. A little deeper summary on "Road to Germany", and not much else. So this will pretty much be the extent of my TV blogging part. Video Gaming? Well, I've been playing NCAA Football 09. I started a few dynasties, one with the Michigan Wolverines, and one with the Central Michigan Chippewas. I went undefeated in the first season on both, and didn't get the chance to play for the National Championship on either. Oh well. I'm amped for Madden next week, it looks like it has been significantly updated since last years game. Well, back to work I guess. Thanks for stopping by! -Fish

Feel The Burn

I've never been one to tan, I just transition right to burn. After doing two live broadcasts today, both outside, in the sun, I am burned. It hurts. The aloe gel isn't helping much. :( I guess one good thing came out of today, I got my new laptop. I purchased a MacBook today, and am currently using it. It's my first Intel Mac and this thing screams compared to my G4 iMac. I got the black version with 250gb HD, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor, and 2 gigs of RAM. Not a lot in the world of TV going on for me, all of my regular shows are done. Being a bit of a space nut, I did catch When We Left Earth on Discovery HD last Sunday, and am looking forward to checking out the rest of that series. If you're a fan of ESPN's Kenny Mayne, I suggest picking up his book An Incomplete and Inaccurate History of Sport. I just finished it after picking it up a few weeks ago, and it was very hilarious. Gaming news... Been playing a lot of Rock Band lately. I really want to get both Guitar Hero games coming out this month. GH: Aerosmith, and the one for the DS GH: On Tour. Anyways, thanks for stopping by, I think I need some more Aloe... -Fish

Not much, how bout you?

What have I been up to? I've been kinda busy with work, but then again am I even allowed to call it work? I sit on my rear end all night playing on the computer while talking. Haha. Okay, that's not all I do, but It sure seems like it. With my change of jobs just about at the two month mark, most of the shows that I watched while at my other job conflict with my current work schedule. We have TVs in the studios, but they're small, and I can't really focus on a show like LOST while jostling phone calls and contests. Thanks to my DVR, I don't have to miss any of my regular weeknight shows. I try not to even flip to the show that I am recording, I'd rather watch it in full. Most of the time I'll flip it to a sports game. Family Guy is done for the season, we'll have to wait until the fall for new episodes. However, with Seth signing his big deal, we'll be sure to have lots more of the show for years to come. (thanks to Tim by the way for the shout-out  ) I meant to watch LOST last night, but GTAIV was calling, and um, it won. I'll watch last night's LOST tonight when I get home.

Speaking of Grand Theft Auto IV, holy crap, what an amazing game. I finished the story line last night, and will begin to make the attempt at 100%. I would however, like to try a second play through soon to pick the other options throughout the game. I also picked up Mario Kart Wii on release day, and for the most part have enjoyed it. The AI is insane though. Also, I picked up Rock Band since my last blog, and have been rocking out on that before GTAIV, though I'm having a difficult time with the second solo in "Green Grass and the High Tides" on Expert. I know I said that I was holding off on games for a while, but Rock Band was too tempting. My good ole government bribe should be showing up next week, and I'll put that towards the MacBook that I plan on getting. If you want to hit me up online, my gamertag and Wii friend code are over at my gamespot profile. Or, hell, I'll just post them here.

My Wii Console code is 8018-2214-4244-0972 Super Smash Bros Brawl: 0344-8952-7451 Mario Kart Wii: 0946-2649-8274
If you hit me up on the Wii codes, definitely leave yours in a comment or PM. Thanks for stopping by! -Fish

It Was a Joke, People

First, still no concrete info on the next episode of Family Guy. Some info floating around suggest that it's "The Former Life of Brian" on April 27th. We'll find out officially this Friday, when it's released by FOX. Sucks that Jericho is gone again, this time for good. I am glad that it had a real ending though, none of that cliffhanger "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?" crap like we had with the season 1 ending. Can't wait for the Season 2 DVDs. Now, to the blog title. I thought it would be funny to deviate from my normal routine tonight. Normally at 8pm, I play the top 8 most requested songs of the night. Tonight, being April 1st, I figured I'd do an April Fools Day edition. This is how it looked: Michael Jackson - Thriller Sir Mix-a-Lot - Baby Got Back Crash Test Dummies - Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Haddaway - What is Love? Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby Spice Girls - Wannabe Los Del Rio - Macarena Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up Yeah, I figured I'd "rick-roll" our listeners, and play that as the Number 1 song. I got a few calls saying "hey great prank" or something along those lines. Mostly though, I got angry callers that wondered why I played those songs. To which I just asked them what the date was today, only to get "uhhh, Tuesday?" I told em it was a simple April Fools joke, and things will return to normal tomorrow. Was this a bad idea? I thought it was funny, and so did my music director when I suggested it to him. Never thought it would be this un-eventful. Anyways, gaming. I went back to playing The Orange Box. Beat Half-Life 2 the other night, and am working on Half-Life 2 Episode 1 now. COD4 map pack comes out on Thursday, can't wait for it. I had planned on buying a few games these past few weeks (Rainbow Six Vegas 2, MLB 2k8, Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword) but have decided against it. Now that I have finally finished payments on my vehicle, I can save up some cash, and decided to wait and buy an Apple MacBook before the end of this month. Tigers! Though it sucks that they lost opening day, Miguel Cabrera made his Tiger debut a special one as he blasted a homer in the 5th inning. And how bout Brandon Inge with the frozen rope to home plate! Here's hoping they bounce back and take the series from the Royals. Thanks for stopping by, -Fish

A New Opportunity

Not too much to update on Family Guy. No new episodes until at least April. A spin-off featuring Cleveland is in development, but just because it was set into motion by FOX, doesn't necessarily mean we'll see anything in the near future on it. Some shows get developed, only to vanish before they are seen. Holy crap, Jericho is amazing. I really hope that this show gets to have a third season. I can't believe it'll be over in just two weeks. Lost is crazy as well, but that's a given. Now to the blog title. I've been working part-time for a radio station here in Northern Michigan since early August, before that, I had been out of "the business" since October of 2006. But lets back up a bit, I got my start in radio in this same building. Back in 2000, I applied for a part time job with this radio station group to run Detroit Tiger games on the AM stations (I would sit and listen to the games, and play commercials at the appropriate times). I did that for a couple of years before I was asked if I wanted the opportunity to work a weekend airshift on the FM station. Doing part-time radio was fun, but I wanted more. In the early summer of 2004, I applied to another station for a full-time job that they were offering, and was working there within a month. I worked for them full time from September 2004 until they decided that I was expendable in October of 2006. After that, I didn't know what to do, I was crushed. I went unemployed for a while before I finally found a job with a local beer distributer. However, I knew right off the bat that this was not me. When I was passed over for a full time position with the distributer in August of 2007, I called up my old co-worker from the first radio station that I worked at, and asked if they needed some part time help. I started out like I did back in 2000, running games. Then, about a month ago, when after two jocks had left for other jobs, I was asked to help out part time on the FM station. This past Monday night came a new opportunity. I received a call from the Program Director of the FM, who proceeded to inform me that they would like to hire me full time to do nights. I immediately felt excited, and relieved too. I finally get to do what I love for a living, again. Hey, If you're ever traveling through Northern Michigan, keep an ear out. Sorry if I bored you with my work story, haha, but I'll now bore you with my video games! The four days that I've had Super Smash Bros Brawl have been awesome. This game is amazingly addicting. Game of the year so far, and has eclipsed No More Heroes and Super Mario Galaxy as my new favorite Wii game. I've kinda neglected my XBOX 360 since Sunday, and Brawl is the reason behind it. I did download the "Bring Down the Sky" expansion to Mass Effect, but have yet to play it. My next XBOX 360 purchases will most likely be MLB 2k8, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and Grand Theft Auto IV. For the Wii, I'll get Okami and Mario Kart Wii. Thanks for stopping by, -Fish

It's a Sunday blog

I couldn't think of an appropriate title, so I guess this'll do. Anyways, what's the deal with the levels? I went from Level 35 98% on Friday, to Level 37 9% on Saturday, skipping Level 36. Then today, I jumped up another 109% to Level 38 18%. I know the staff wanted to cut back the requirements on level increases, but this is ridiculously easy now. As much as I like blowing through the levels like this, I hope that the staff fixes any issues when they return to work tomorrow.

Writers strike has been over for a few weeks, and things have already started to pick up for some shows. Lost producers announced that they are doing an additional 5 episodes this season, though we'll have to suffer a "short" hiatus between episodes 7 and 8. This season is crazy as ever with the flash-forwards. I got word from a Family Guy writer that they are trying to finish up the remaining season six episodes that are still lying around. Then in April and May, begin working on Season 7. The next new episode is next Sunday, entitled Play it Again, Brian. After that, I have no idea the plan for an air schedule. March 9th and 16th are both repeats, so it looks like episodes this spring will be few and far between. Games I'm playing now include Call of Duty 4 (X360), The Orange Box (X360), and No More Heroes (Wii). I've already tore through the campaign on Call of Duty 4, so I'm just playing multiplayer online on it. I've been slowly making my way through the different games in The Orange Box. As for No More Heroes, this is a really great game. A bit on the gory side for a Wii title, but it works great. All of the blood is stylistic (think spraying fountains). We are now two weeks away from probably the most anticipated Wii game, if not Video Game in general, of the year so far. Super Smash Bros. Brawl hits on March 9th. I can't wait. I'd normally tell you to go listen to the Scoop, but they haven't done one in like three weeks. Thanks for stopping by, -Fish

So, whatcha been up to?

Work, game, sleep. Yep. I've been working more lately, not only for the Merchandising job, but the Radio job too. I've been running a lot of games lately, and I recently was asked If I wanted to do a couple nights this week on our flagship FM station. I immediately said yes, even though I'm nervous as hell since It's been more than a year and a half since I have been on the air. I'm sure I'll do fine, but it's like I'm doing it for the first time again. I guess they are looking for a permanent night jock, and this looks like my second audition, as my first was the demo tape I gave them. Those that pay attention to my bio (noone? haha) will have noticed that 23 changed to 24 last Friday. Birthdays don't feel the same anymore, it was just another work day for me. Oh well. Anyways, I was expecting Family Guy to be over for the year, but apparently not. James Woods returns to guest star in "Back to the Woods" on February 17th. "James Woods returns to seek revenge against Peter. First, by stealing Peter's identity becoming head of the Griffin household. Peter decides to ruin James' career and image." Lost returns this Thursday, but alas, I'll be working, so the DVR had better not mess up on me, haha. Not much else on the TV front for me. I'm still watching Discovery and History in HD like they're going out of style. I'm really enjoying "The Universe" on History. My XBOX 360 and Wii have been getting a workout lately. Call of Duty 4, BioShock, and Mass Effect are all amazing on the XBOX 360. I rented Assassin's Creed a few weeks back, and that was pretty sweet as well. As for the Wii, I'm really loving No More Heroes. If you still aren't hip to the Scoop, check it out  Thanks for stopping by, -Fish

Holy Surprise!

I get home from my main job today to find an envelope on the kitchen table with my name on it. What to my surprise when I open it, but cash, and a note saying "We're not sure what to get you, so get something for yourself and wrap it". The past few years, I haven't asked for much for Christmas, I asked for a few DVDs last year, and an entry level digital camera the year before. So, when I opened the envelope and saw what was there, I was pleasantly surprised, and instantly knew what I wanted. Oh yeah. After adding some extra money of my own to the mix, I stopped into Wal*Mart on my way to job #2, and walked out with an XBOX 360 Premium. I've been wanting one for a while now, but was hesitant to buy one as I wanted a model with the new "Falcon" motherboards that feature the 65nm CPU. I guess today was my lucky day, because after the associate removed the console from the case, I checked the info on the side and saw "175 watt" for the power supply, and instantly new I snagged one of these elusive Falcons. Now to be fair, I am still going to wrap it and wait until Christmas to play it. I should be able to hold out until then. I've pretty much moved away from broadcast TV. Most, if not all, of my regular shows are in repeats. I've been watching a lot of History Channel HD and Discovery HD. Tuesday nights on History have "The Universe", and for the past 5 weeks, the Discovery Channel has featured a series called "Rise of the Videogame." A real neat retrospective on the history of gaming. Lost on January 31st, and Jericho on February 12th are my two most important dates right now. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas, and a Happy Holidays if I don't blog before then. Go listen to the Scoop! -Fish
