@kallie: Do YOU really feel that ALL of Star Wars Battlefront's weapons are "bland with little personality," or are you trying to speak for the general player base? Because I know I'm not alone when I say that there are a quite a few unique guns in the first game: the TL-50 Heavy Repeater with its amazing firerate and ion launcher secondary; the Scatter Gun with surprisingly awesome range and the ability to shred shields/one shot kill right through them; and esp. the A180 that can basically transform into 3 additional, completely different guns.
These are but a few examples, but there are definitely others. Additionally, practically every weapon in the game has amazing sound effects.
If that is how you personally feel, then your article should have been framed (and titled) as an editorial. If you were trying to represent the player base or DICE's views, you needed to include links specifically referencing those. The one article you cited about DICE wanting to add more depth to Battlefront II makes no mention of guns/weapons anywhere.
Finally, it is important to make the distinction that different does not necessarily mean better. Just because the weapons in the sequel overall work differently, that doesn't automatically negate the appeal of the guns in the first game.
Not trying to find fault or be mean. I just feel it's important to make sure opinions and facts are properly presented and represented, esp. when it's something a lot of people are passionate about, like Star Wars.
After reading the article, lots of the comments, and watching the vid., I felt I needed to share my own take on this.
I know DICE felt the biggest mistake they made with the first game was not providing enough end game content, but I for one feel the progression system they used was nearly perfect. I'm still playing, and at rank 72, there's still some things I want to unlock and a lot I could. The only thing I would add is a few more bodies/outfits than the few they included. But to me, there was absolutely no need to nearly overhaul the whole system.
The other point I wanted to make has to do with someone else's comment about EA targeting casuals even more with Battlefront II. I don't know if that's the case but I do know by implementing this stupid random loot system, they've ultimately turned off a lot of their most important audience -- Star Wars fans. And I'm a big one. It doubly hurts because I very rarely play multip. games; they're usually too cut throat for my tastes.
If user RenFairReject's claims that all the pay to win elements have now be removed turn out to be true of the final product, then that will obviously make a lot of people happier. Since nothing official verifying this has been posted online, yet, I can't help feeling really frustrated, let down even.
@razor_rj: I know Deep Silver didn't develop either of those games. But their reputation is still obviously tied to them. Plus, some if not most publishers have the final say in how a game turns out.
I really like all the features of this. It'd be nice if they released it for the 360 version, but it prob. won't happen.
I very rarely buy remasters (only own 1), and I put in more than enough time without beating Skyrim, yet, that getting it on PS4 wasn't worth it to me either.
@Barighm: I agree generally with what you're saying but not the "everything" part. Ever played Metro: Last Light? Awesome survival horror FPS. And though it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, I personally loved Dead Island. Experienced very few bugs with it too.
@gamingdevil800: A few yea. Hero Hunt is by far the lamest, in my opinion. Sabotage really frustrates me too a lot of the time. But honestly, I like all the other modes, some more than others of course.
Yea, those 2 are great overall, esp. Walker Assault. My personal fav. is Extraction, followed by Blast probably.
Holy crap!! Amnesia Collection!?! I almost bought that on PS Store on sale a couple times, AND Phantom Pain! Beat Ground Zeros (free PS Plus version) but was waiting 4 a price drop on Phantom, so this is doubly awesome. Esp. Since both those games retail for quite a lot still.
The other free titles look pretty dope too. In my opinion, definitely one of the best months for free Plus games this year, at least.
Great trailer. Esp. love how it covers all the diff. general aspects of the game. Just one thing concerns me -- only 5 multip. modes at launch compared to the first game's 10?!
I'm assuming/hopeful that DICE n company have combined the rest of the modes into the couple objective-based ones in Battlefront II, but until they make that clear, it does make me worry. (Anyone know if they've given those details already?)
I know they are going to add more content in the form of free updates, which is great of course, and maybe other modes will make their way into the game that way; we'll have to see.
My personal fav. has always been and will prob. always be 3. It has also held the spot for my fav. game of all time since its initial release.
But NV is a close 2nd on that list. Put over 100 hrs. into 4 in the first month after launch, and overall enjoyed what I've played so far. But haven't touched it since only due to "backlog" issues. But so far, even though I like NV more overall, I'd actually give 4 a slightly higher score (9 vs. 8.5), only cuz I experienced fewer tech. issues with it.
I'd personally enjoy Obsidian doing another Fallout but only if they had more time to finish it than they had with NV. But yea, like some others here, I'd really prefer a diff. setting for the next game than what's been used in the past. So no CA or N.E. states; take it to the Badlands or Texas. The latter would esp. provide a huge playground and has enough harsh terrain that it would also fit the wasteland aesthetic nicely. Not that there isn't plenty of beauty in the Lone Star state as well ?.
