@Viper13579: Yeah, right. Summarizing a metascore of 87 from 51 reviews as "slightly better that ok" suggests that you made your mind up long before the review embargo arrived.
@rickxy007: “not sequels”?! You’re having a laugh! Apart from Mario Kart 53 or whatever we’re on now, Luigi’s Mansion, Pikmin, Zelda Breath of the Twilight Ocarina 6, Super Smash 14 etc. etc.. I’ve played so many iterations of some of these franchises now that I’m losing count, and that’s even before being expected to pay again to play games on my new console that I’ve already bought multiple times before due to a cynical lack of back compat.
Nintendo are the masters of wringing money out of people for things they’ve already bought and played over and over, not to mention offering us underpowered hardware to play it on. It’s clearly a successful business strategy, but please don’t try and convince us that Nintendo are somehow innovating more than Sony or MS - that’s just plain nonsense.
@rickxy007: and there’s me thinking that it’s actually Nintendo who are “ constant rehashing, remastering, remaking, sequels, prequels, and very little creativity.”…. Nintendo exclusives are basically just the umpteenth iteration of the games that appeared on the Wii U, the Wii, the N64 etc.; everything else plays better on PS5 and XBOX.
Each to his/her own, but I haven’t used my Switch for years - Steam Deck for portable, XBOX/PS for the rest. If Nintendo’s next machine is another underpowered affair then I won’t be bothering.
@blaznwiipspman1: I think the best feature of the Steam Deck is that it provides access to the enormous PC library, although I agree that Xcloud streaming is another huge plus.
I agree that Switch is aesthetically more pleasing and more portable, but since I got the Steam Deck I haven't used my Switch at all which speaks volumes.
Steam Deck killed the Switch for me - better on every level apart from the absence of a few Nintendo exclusives, and if I’m honest with myself I’ve already played those exclusives multiple times before in previous generations.
@mooglestar: It's only a non-issue for Sony fanboys.
For people who prefer to play on other systems it's a useful win - one less (big) company that Sony can 'incentivise' not to release their games on any system except for PS.
Agree with you that it'll be good to move on from this, though....
@YukoAsho: I'm not buying your argument that MS are "cynically trying to brute force a monopoly". There's at least as much evidence that MS are just trying to stop Sony forcing them out; lest we forget, XBOX is in third place in the console market, not the dominant market leader.
MS have stated that they only bought Bethesda because Sony was trying to prevent the release of Starfield on XBOX. You've stated earlier that Sony must react to the ABK purchase with their own acquisitions, but it could be argued that it's Sony that started this arms war in the first place by trying to tie up so much IP in exclusivity deals and blocking their competition by all means possible. I'm just glad Sony doesn't have deeper pockets or it would have killed all competition by now.
