I have a switch and with a backlog of games I was planning to play on switch 2. Now I guess its time to sell that backlog. The article is right, nintendo can price their system whatever they think people will pay for it. And I say their games aren't worth more than $40, thats capitalism baby. I will stick with the steam deck, and other windows handhelds.
@Tiwill44: well, its too early to say, but its a specialized Nvidia tegra gaming chip, which makes comparing it more difficult. The AMD chips used in the deck and other PC handheld use x86 general purpose apu. We can only judge through gaming performance, and lets wait for that first. The steam deck is 3 years old now, and maybe a new iteration will be due sometime next year or possibly in 2027.
Let's not compare to the past, that's a totally dumb comparison. Why not compare to the present instead, ie closest market competitor? The hardware cost is one factor. Steam deck, which has better hardware costs $399 for 256gb model. The Lenovo legion go costs $599, and the RoG ally costs similarly around $499. The switch 2 going for $450 seems fair when you compare that way, and that's if you completely ignore that those other handheld are full fledged gaming pcs / functional laptops.
Now lets compare game prices. The average PC game goes for $50 and drops to $30, and even lower. What about switch games? They are using old af hardware with old ass software development from 10 years back. These games will cost $80, and $70, and get a rare discount to $60 on black Friday. I think people are more pissed about this than anything else, though the hardware costs also add to the annoyance.
some games will sell for whatever price, and people will buy it. GTA6 is a good example...its been more than 10 years and the hype for the game is at a high. If rockstar launches it at $200, people will buy it in the tens of millions. But nintendo...you are insane to price mario kart at $80. Even the other games at $70 is a joke. Keep the price at $60, better yet drop it to $50. Your low tech 10 year old hardware and 10 year old software standards doesn't warrant $80 games.
@jenovaschilld: yes, well said. Another point is that yes its true gaming costs go up because of development costs, Nintendo isn't part of that group. They don't push huge budget AAA games development. Switch 2 hardware doesn't even compare well to the steam deck, and is likely less powerful.
Its sad for me, but im going to take a pass on Nintendo system for the foreseeable future.
This is literally the dumbest choice nintendo made. At this price point they could have went with an AMD handheld like the steam deck. Where is the common sense, bunch of morons.
interesting, and all for it. I'm tired of the traditional consoles to be honest, PC is the place where all games head to, and if thats the case, what point is there in buying a console? There needs to be a reason, and nintendo has been the only one innovating on that front with the switch. The switch 2 though, is no different and isnt really interesting or innovating. PS5 is terrible as a console, and just selling off marketing hype. But at least they try to innovate with the dual sense and vr headset, neither of which they support all that well.
Xbox is the most user friendly console, most affordable, and most forward looking. That said, I really hope they do innovate properly. Ie maybe forming a partnership with meta and creating a true VR friendly platform. They should also take a page out of sonys book and innovate on the controller more.
amazing, didn't think id ever see the day. But overall its good news, to expand the game to more users. This game would be perfect for ps5, since theres a gap in the market for an arcade racing sim.
Oh, and theres still a great reason to own an xbox...you have xbox play anywhere, so you can play some xbox games on pc and vice versa. You also have gamepass, which is the best deal for gaming period, nothing comes close. Gaming accessibility is the highest on xbox compared to any other console with the cloud, making it a seamless experience whichever device you play games on.
Also, the best games for consoles are multiplatform...theres really no reason to own a ps5. Especially considering that sony is releasing their 1st party games on pc anyways. At least xbox has gamepass and the value that gamepass brings plus all its other gamer friendly features. Sony and playstation has nadda.
