Actually Retina (Correct me if wrong) isn't even 4K.

But I was wrong about 8K in that it already exists with Sharp demonstarting it at CES 2013 (well according to wikipedia)

Coming soon from Apple, the new 8K "Cornea" display. A display so detailed you will struggle to spot the actual pixels until you damage your eyes squinting and need a cornea transplant.

Personally I think no one is winning the games message.

The message won't be won until video gaming appears in the entertainment sections of mainstream media just like tv/radio/movies and not bundled with technology. Gaming is entertainment. The consoles, hardware and software development that drives gaming is technology.
