@livedreamplay: Well it seems kadaverhagga has provided with some excellent points lol, I point you in his direction. He pretty much sums up everything nicely. =)
@livedreamplay: The article I linked along with this one shows you that in terms of revenue and players the numbers do back me up, we are clear on that atleast. Just google andrew house and the pro. You can't possibly fathom for on second the sense in what I said? It's not like I said something completely unlikely. It is perfectly plausable the ps4 success comes from nintendo and xbox. The same success does not apply to them. Xbox is doing "fine" and nintendo is a shell of it's former self. If you have spend any time at all in gaming forums or looking at gaming related content on youtube you would see that now as opposed to back in the 360s day there are alot more examples and talk about switching to pc. Back then the talk was the other way around. And where do all these record breaking pc gamers come from? Increasing by the millions each year, where? What I said is not unlikely at all and atleast have some "indication" to the cause, and seeing as how you have provided no proof to the opposite I wouldn't dismiss it completely. Where are the sources saying AAA has declined? Don't mistake an increase in AAA sales on console as a decline on pc compared to what it was back in the dark days of pc gaming 2005-2008 (even though alot of titles sell far worse now compared to on previous gen, look at Halo and Gears f ex). Pc gamers switched to 360 and ps3 back then, entirely likely they can switch back. And to quote kadaverhagga in terms of the prosperity of pc gaming, what relevance does AAA titles have? Are you saying that pc gaming IS dying because the most popular games are not AAA titles (not even that they don't have AAA games, in fact they have more than ever now, it's because they are not the most popular)? You are taking this personal it seems like it is some kind of dick measuring contest here. I'm not trashing consoles or pc masterracing here, I was a console gamer for years and I still have my ps4. All I'm saying is pc gaming is not dead rather the opposite, AAA does not mean it's a good game nor does it or the businessmodel alone have anything to do with the death or success of a platform. And since we know that pc gaming is increasing both in terms of hardware and software, surpassing consoles overall and only one console is doing really well, it is not unlikely that console gamers switch to pc. Maybe not ps4 gamers as much as xbox gamers for obvious reasons, but still.
@livedreamplay: When you say the numbers don't back me up at all you are refering to the switching from console to pc? Because looking to what platform generates most money, have the most players, the most games and software sales the numbers back me up indeed. Sure I admit I don't actually have a number for how many console players made the switch but we have all heard sony execs and ms execs say they created the midgen updates to keep players from switching to pc. They wouldn't have said that if they didn't see that happen. And like another guy here said you can just check gaming forums and youtube and there are alot more common now with topics about switching to pc. And yes sure the ps4 is doing very well. And it's funny you had to single that one out. Look back to what playstation was and it's not sure it will be what it once was. Maybe those recordbreaking ps4 sales were from xbox and nintendo gamers going to playstation? Ofcourse it could also be more people game today because it is normal for their parents to game etc unlike when I was a child. But either way that means it could still be possible that more console gamers today switch to pc as the execs, articles and info show, despite playstation seeing recrod sales and not hurting. Just saying.
@livedreamplay: All games are cheap or atleast cheaper on pc even the same AAA titles you talk about. And neither the prefix AAA or the price of a game determines it's quality or how good it is.
And what businessmodel they use doesn't mean pc gamers don't spend money and only play it because it is cheap.
But in the end all that is irrelevant for the question at hand about pc gaming dying. Either more players play and spend money on pc or less players play and spend money on pc. And as we can see more and more people switch to pc (me included) breaking records every year on steam alone, and revenue from enthusiast pc hardware surpass all consoles combined as do software sales. Sure the pc crowd are alot more diverse than consoles, but that's because they have options, they are alot more in numbers and the platform itself offers multiple ways to play and supports different "tools. Had you had the same amount of selection and options on console you'd see a bigger diversity there.
And on my part it is that lack of diversity, the focus on military style slow shooters or third person shooters with stealth elements that has put alot of console gamers off and to pc. It's not really like you loose out much of the console library on pc anyway. And for each title you loose you gain alot more awesome games.
I can only recomend it, especially if you are an xbox gamer. You loose nothing, you still have your achievements, you can still play on the same xblive servers for free, all the exclusives, you can still play with your friends on xbox etc, and you gain so much more. it is also cheaper overall if you are like me and buy alot of games.
@kadaverhagga: I can confirm all that for my part. console gaming beeing cheaper and easier is a lie if you are anything close to an avid gamer. I sold all my consoles except my ps4 wich I keep for some exclusive games that might come. I haven't regreted my switch to pc for a second. And yes I was one of those believing the nonsense stereotypes and even used them as arguments against pc gaming. It also opened my eyes to new genres and games that isn't the AAA type, games that I'd dismiss simply because they were not made by a big corporation and with a big budget. I can honestly say I found alot more non AAA games that are actually engaging for much longer and have fun gameplay than I can name any recent AAA matching.
@fanirama: I'ma chip in my two cents here as a third party bored to death and casually reading and answering pointless comments. I'm sorry man but that is utter dogshit, you just made a statement. You answered jack shit, you did not assert his point and you did not extend or post a question at all.
I personally agree with your statement on it's own, but yeah I get the confusion, it does look more like a personal attack, and if your explenation to kadaverhagga was what you meant to get across it was a piss poor execution.
@mehrunezzdagon: You come across as nothing but a biggot. The other guy had some lows too but atleast he has some points. I assume you are not an idiot and damn well know that if you pay for something and it doesn't work, not even doing the stuff you said like turning down graphics. Then you are damn well within your right to complain about it.
