Spoony Movie Rant - Turkish Star Wars
by TandemSpoony on Comments
Synopsis: There are many bad movies in this world, but few have the ability to make you feel truly stupider for having watched it. Uwe Boll can only inspire to incompetence of this magnitude. This movie is like a Faces of Death video for other movies, a horrifying crime against cinema where I would literally leap out of my seat screaming and pointing at the screen in disbelief. Two words: bring booze.

Spoony Videogame Rant - E.T. for the Atari 2600
by TandemSpoony on Comments
Following two surgeries and doped-out on prescription painkillers, The Spoony One returns to face his own private Apocalypse on the Atari 2600, the argued worst game ever made, E.T. The Extraterrestrial. ( http://spoonyexperiment.com/games/ET/ )
The next review should be an adventure. I still don't know what went wrong before, but I have some ideas to try and fix them so they don't happen again. I'm going to use a new method to capture game footage and hopefully that will alleviate some of the biggest problems. But I have a sneaking suspicion that the problem could lie with the footage I pulled off my DV camera, which is again something that REALLY shouldn't happen. The footage I get off that should be pure, unencoded .avi goodness. Yet whenever I tried to mess with it, it glitched out in a major way.
But I know, I know, you don't care about my technical mishaps. I persevered on this video through a hell of a lot, so keep that in mind if you think this video isn't up to usual snuff. I've pretty thoroughly humiliated myself with this review so hopefully you can get a chuckle out of that, at least.
Look for me to return to top form as I tackle John Carpenter's "The Thing" for the PC.

As I was saying...
by TandemSpoony on Comments
Okay,
As I was saying, I recently had all four of my wisdom teeth removed and due to some complications, was forced to undergo a second oral surgery and have been in considerable pain since then. I've been out of commission for a while and it'll be a few days still before I'm in fighting trim. I've been held together with Vicodin and Motrin, so I definitely haven't been up to reviewing anything lately.
I would like to continue reviewing games, however. I know a lot of you have had suggestions, and I plan to follow as many of them as I can. To answer some of your questions, I'm not exclusively devoted to reviewing old NES games, and indeed, I would like to review other games from other consoles. The NES is simply the easiest one I've found to acquire video capture footage from because I have a handy emulator as well as the console itself.
I'm not sure what other ways exist to capture footage from other consoles, so I'm in a bit of a fix there. I don't know if emulators for other consoles have decent video capture capabilities (and if you know of any, please let me know). I imagine the easiest way is to find a video card for my computer with video inputs and simply hook the console itself to my computer. Unfortunately, I don't have such a video card. If you know of any other ways to capture video for other consoles in a relatively easy and inexpensive (read: free) way, please e-mail me with your solutions. The freeware video capture program I found for my computer works, but it slows my system to a crawl so whatever video it captures is useless.
I will also accept donations, payable at my website (http://www.spoonyexperiment.com) via the PayPal donation box at the bottom of the page. These donations will go exclusively to the improvement of the reviews through the purchase of better video editing software and hardware, as well as the legal purchase of the games I review if it's necessary.

Health update
by TandemSpoony on Comments
I'm beginning to feel much better now, though I'm still coasting by on painkillers and antibiotics. I predict about four days until I'm eating normally and able to move about without being in a drugged-out haze.
Stepping down temporarily because of surgery.

I'll be turning the reins of power over to Lurker temporarily, as I'm having all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow and will undoubtedly be incapacitated and unable to properly rant at things. Updates to follow. I'm really not sure how I'll be feeling once the procedure is finished, but I'm guessing not well at all and dizzily riding a painkiller buzz for about a week.
We'll have to swear him into office ASAP.

Spoony Videogame Rant - Samurai Zombie Nation
by TandemSpoony on Comments
Talk about a bait-and-switch! I got suckered in by the coolest game title ever, only to find that it has nothing to do with samurai OR zombies. Instead it involves the epic struggle between a forty-foot floating head and a greased-up undead Sean Connery. I could not make this up.

Spoony Videogame Rant: Heroes of the Lance (NSFW)

Witness one of the most broken, pointless, and frustrating RPGs ever to blight the world: AD&D - Heroes of the Lance, a game with broken hit detection, unforgivably bad graphics, and the cheapest frigging enemies ever.

Spoony Videogame Rant - Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

It doesn't get any grander than the licensed videogame where Kevin Costner squeezed into his tights and plucked up a longbow to kick ass in the name of the proletariat! Let's take a blast back to the past and relive the horror that is...Prince of Thieves!
