@dani3po I have to disagree. Mass appeal does not a good game make. Some of the best games out there are games that have small but very dedicated fanbases. Dark Souls is, in my opinion, one of the most refreshingly original role-playing series of the last decade, and Escape from Butcher Bay doesn't have a huge fan base, but it's one of my favorite games of all time. That's not to say that games with a large fan base are bad, as I love games like Halo and Assassin's Creed as well, but as to your comment about a fanbase being a determining factor of quality, I would say that's a tough sell for me.
While I disagree wholeheartedly with this review, it's pretty clear that this player isn't the person for whom this game was made. Yes, it's difficult. That's kind of the point. No, it won't broadcast its subtleties to you- you rely on the community to help you learn what the mechanics are. If you have a group of friends that are into Dark Souls, it's an amazing experience. It's not Skyrim but it is open world. It focuses on precision and forethought, and the onus is on the player, not the game, to actually achieve victory. Far too many games let you coast through them with barely any challenge, and this game's difficulty is one of the many things that make it so refreshing.
I don't own a Vita, but I'm pretty disappointed with how Sony has treated the console since release. It's a really solid device, but Sony really isn't supporting it the way it needs to.
