I think the great thing about games is they can tell a story but they don't have to, and when they do, just because you are interacting instead of merely interpreting doesn't mean they aren't an effective medium, just a different form of narrative, and to say otherwise is to base your conclusion on tradition, which should never be the deciding factor in an argument such as this. I've read some great books, seen some great movies, and played some games with great stories, and the games will always stand in my mind alongside the books and movies I've experienced, and there are enough like minded individuals to prove people like Dutton wrong. Dutton grew up with books and movies, but probably not with story driven games, which would make it harder for him to understand the different method of story telling, and in turn, leave him heavily biased on the subject. Ask people who are accustomed to experiencing stories through these three forms and they will tell you the same thing.
