See, this isn't easy right now because I can't find a good part that I don't need to do the whole long story behind it. I guess since there's this whole long story behind this one part I'd like to share, I'll simplify the story and get on with the scenes I'd like to share with you all.
And for those of you new to my blog, refer to my blog "more stuff from/about my book" to learn a little bit about my characters and the storyline.
The story is simple; Haylie had been wanting to have a baby through the entire summer, and had no success. She begins to get a little upset, but soon gets over it.
You'll see why that little story was needed soon... TRUST ME!
What I'll do is sgare with you the name of the chapter, along with the names of the two parts. This is one of my two-part chapters.
WARNING: this is probably the sweetest (emotionally) scene that you've heard so far. If you're not so into romance, this may not be your most favorite kind of chapter.
Chapter 140-It's Christmastime! Part A- A bad present turned good.
It's now late December, and Haylie's at the store trying to figure out what she should get Jason for his birthday, which is in two days. Meanwhile, at the same time, it's only five days from Christmas!
After about an hour, Haylie finally found the perfect birthday present for Jason. It was a new cell phone. He'd been saying he wanted a new cell phone, but he couldn't find the one he wanted. What he was looking for was an AT&T camera and text phone, hopefully in black or silver. Haylie found the phone Jason had wanted for nearly four months.
Once Jason's birthday came, there was more than one surprise in store for him.
"Open your present, honey. Please?" Haylie says, handing Jason his present.
"Okay, fine," he smiles and takes the wrapping paper off. There's a box inside, and inside that was the cell phone. "Oh my gosh! Haylie! You got me the phone?!? The phone! The texting camera phone! And it's black and silver... sweet."
"Yes, I did."
"Thank you. Thank you so much." he gives her a hug and kiss.
"You're welcome."
He opens the phine. "It's already activated and everything. Cool." The phone beeps, and says there's a new text. "A new text message already? But I just got this... Hmm." he check the message.
The message says:
Happy Birthday Baby
I love you
hayls
"Aww, Haylie." she just smiles. "Thanks... And, love you, too."
"Glad you like it." Haylie replies.
"I love it. But even more importantly, there's something I love more than anything, and that's you."
Three days later came Christmas morning. Hilary and Lizzie would be coming to Haylie's that morning. But, Jason and Haylie had to run down to the store real quick once they got there. There was a last second present to get for Sammy. So, once Hilary and Lizzie, and surprisingly, Jimmy, too *(Jimmy is the guy that Hilary likes, and is dating)* got there, Haylie and Jason left and had a horrible time getting through the nasty storm. A powerful snowstorm had come out of nowhere, and there was ice all over the streets. It was 27 degrees outside, with winds gusting to 40 mph, and the sustained winds were at about 17 to 20 mph. *(remember, this is in northern California, specifically near Crescent City, on the northwestern coast of the state)* It was one nasty Christmas morning.
It was about five to 9 in the morning when about 10 cars all skid into one another on the highway, and Haylie and Jason got caught right in the middle of it.
2 cars flipped, 3 turned over on it's side, 1 ripped apart van and a truck with the bumper ripped off. Those were the worst of the scene. There was a total of 6 cars, two vans and two trucks that were involved and damaged. One of which, got very lucky, which was Haylie and Jason's van. The only things damaged were the front headlights and the right front tire went flat. The worst of the damage was inside...
Everyone involved had to be brought to the hospital just to be safe and make sure there were no injuries. It was easy to tell that Haylie had broken her right arm very badly. But, the routine's the same with every woman; before you get an x-ray, you need a pregnancy test. And that meant Haylie, too.
Meanwhile, Sandra *(one of the nurses there, also friends with Haylie and Jason)* is trying to make sure Jason's okay.
"Where's Haylie? Is she okay? Please, let me-" Jason's worried.
"She's fine. Julie's got her. *(Julie is another nurse there, she's Haylie's partner)* She's fine. Her arm's most likely broken, but other than that, she's perfectly okay." Sandra replies.
"Sandra, let me see her, please." Jason beggs.
"Let's get this last x-ray done so we can be sure you're okay."
"Fine."
Jason wound up being completely fine, other than a bruise on his left knee. After his x-ray, he ran to the room Haylie was in.
"Hold still. Let me put the ice on it." Julie says.
"It hurts, Julie, stop." Haylie whines.
"Haylie, are you okay?" Jason says, shutting the door. He sits down next to her on the bed.
"My arm hurts. Really bad."
"It's most likely broken." Julie says. "I just gave her the prgnancy test to see if she can get x-rayed. Actually, I should get checking back at that test to see if the results are out, yet." Julie checks the results to the test. "Haylie, I think this is going to be your best Christmas yet..." Julie smiles.
"Why? I probably have a broken arm, what's so good about that?" Haylie whines.
"Haven't you been wanting to have a baby?"
"Yes..."
"The test's positive, Haylie. You're finally gonna have the baby you've wanted for months. Congratulations, Haylie!"
Haylie's eyes widen as probably the biggest smile in the world emerges from her face. "Oh, my gosh! We... We're havin' a baby!"
"Are you serious, Julie?" Jason's excited.
"Positive." Julie replies.
Joyful tears start pouring out of Haylie's eyes. "Finally. After over six months of failure, it finally worked."
"Yeah, I guess it did." Jason starts crying in happiness as well.
"So, Jules, how we going to find out if my arm's okay?" Haylie asks.
"Um, I could carefully scan it but you'd have to put it down on this little table and keep 100% still." Julie explains.
"Did I just hear an english accent out of you?" Jason asks.
"You might of..."
"Where are you from?"
"This little town outside of London, that I don't even remember the name to." she laughs. "I moved to London when I was four, and then I moved to California when I was eight, going on nine."
"Oh..."
"Julie, believe it or not, is the only left handed female here... and she's also the only person raised in England, too." Haylie says.
"Yeah, I actually am..." Julie smiles.
"I didn't know you were the only girl that's a lefty..." Jason admits.
"Melanie's ambedextrious, so technically, she's not a lefty..."
"She's wha?"
"Ambedextrious. She can write with both hands. There's equal coordination in her hands."
"How'd she get that way?"
"Well, she has a left handed father, and a right handed mother, and she wound up being both..."
"That's cool."
"Yeah. So, Hayls, you need to come to the other room so we can get your arm checked out, okay?"
"Alright." Haylie says, following Julie to another room with a small table in the middle of the room.
"This little contraption is like a mini x-ray machine. It's very weak, and can only scan a small area. So, we'll get your arm and shoulder done, and have this be over with. You've gotta be real still, though, okay?"
"Okay."
"Can you do that?"
"Yeah, I can do that."
"'Cause if you move the entire image gets all messed up and blurred and it'll have to be done all over again."
"Alright. Don't worry, I know how to be still. Julie, think, who am I?"
"Good point."
A few moments later, Julie got Haylie's arm and shoulder scanned. The results showed she had a hairline fracture in her right wrist, and had clearly broken the raduis bone of her arm. Her shoulder was fractured as well. The break in Haylie's arm was one of the worst ever seen. Almost the entire bone was broken. The break in her arm was nearly 4 1/2 inches long. The broken bone would take over four months to heal.
Haylie's arm was wrapped up real well. She fist had a soft padding wrapped around her arm, then a soft cast, and over that was a soft cast. Her arm was also put in a sling.
*What I did was drew out what the break was like in my book, but to give you an idea as to what it was like, if you take your hand and put it on your thumb and move it down along the bone in your arm about three quarters of an inch, that would be where the bone snapped open, and broke up her arm about an inch to an inch and a half from her elbow, with three thin cracks at the end. You could easily imagine how much her arm would be swollen... As you get closer to the elbow, the break came closer and closer to the center.*
So that extra present never wound up being bought for Sammy...
Chapter 140- It's Christmastime! Part B- Hello, Christmas '08!
Hilary and Jimmy were shocked to see Haylie come home in the condition she was in.
"Oh, my gosh! Haylie, what happened to you?" Hilary runs to her sister and hugs her.
"Car skid, um, my arm hit the steering wheel as the air bag went off and snapped my arm and now it's all wrapped up... Yep." Haylie replies.
"I'm expecting you to be in a fit right now..."
"Oh, this is the happiest you'll ever see me with a 4 1/2 inch break in my arm."
"It's that bad?" Jimmy asks.
"Yeah."
"Happy? You're happy? I could understand grateful, but happy?"
"Yeah, very happy."
"Why are you happy?"
"I got the best Christmas present in the world!"
"What would that be?"
"Finding out that... That I'm pregnant. Hil, Jason and I are havin' a baby!"
"Oh my gosh!" Hilary gives them both a hug.
"Congrats, you two." Jimmy says, smiling.
"Thanks." Haylie says, and Jason just smiles.
"What'd I tell you? You'll find out when you least expect it." Hilary says.
"And I certainly was not expecting it." Haylie replies.
"Ya know, you two move in here, and two months later, you're already having a baby."
"Hmm.." Haylie giggles.
"So, what exactly is broken?" Haylie explains everything about what happened and what was broken. Hilary's shocked at what she hears. "Wow! That's not good." Hilary says. "So did they give you an ultrasound or anything?"
"No, Hil, I'm only 3 or 4 weeks. There's really not much to see yet.. But I do have a scheduled appoitment on Jan. 19th."
"Oh, cool."
"Wouldn't you have to get surgery to fix your arm?" Jimmy asks.
"I can't get surgery yet. But, yes, I do need to get surgery done on my arm to help fix the bone. It has to heal a little first. Right now, the break in my arm is too big and thick to do surgery. It's also way too fragile. The bone in my arm could snap completely in half, and it may never be able to heal right. I'll probably have surgery done to help the bone heal in bout 3 weeks or so. I'm tellin' ya, I won't be writing anything for over 3 months. It's that broken. I can't stress my arm at all or my arm will be badly damaged forever."
"Eww."
"Yeah, it kinda is nasty..."
so that's it for today. Hope you enjoyed the chapter... well, at least this part of it. I'm still not done with this chapter. But, if you'd like, I'll pm you the rest of the chapter for those of you who really want to hear it. Just let me know if you do want to hear the rest and I'll gladly pm it to you, unless everybody wants to hear it, then I'll just do it in a blog post.
