They sell the motherboard that is inside the OUYA in Korea and other asian countries for like 45-50 bucks or something like that to consumers ready to use out of the box. With the discount they are getting for buying bulk, I would say they are making a good amount of profit on this console after full production. With the 50 dollar charge on the controller, which I am seeing a high profit marging on this as well, this is a manufacturing dream. With that said, I believe the OUYA is a piece of trash. That's just my opinion. I don't believe it is worth the hype and people just bought an old hardware version of a tablet all-in-one mobo to play Google Play apps. I get the same and better quality games on my Samsung Note 2, and you can achieve this with most smart Android phones out already. They even have a nice android based controller that sells for about 20-40 bucks you can hook up and most Android phones and tablets can output HDMI for a better price and value. People just bought into the marketing when these features were out for a long time. They were just able to capitalize on it before the masses knew the real potential of an Android device.
I can understand the need for innovation, but it seems like they are focusing on ways to stop you from pressing "IMPUT" on your remote/TV and get you in the mind state that you only need an Xbone in the living room. I don't really care about TV/media features, some may. But it is a path like this that is hindering the amount of good content for games. Games are getting shorter and shorter while requiring less brain power. I play video games with my console because that is what I bought it for. That is great you want to give people the option to watch tv shows on their console, but it's like you're not focusing on why you built the machine in the first place. Sequels and shitty remakes, carbon copies and shallow games are flooding the market and everyone acts like that shit is cool.
@skiggy29 @MaskRisen Light years a head of the eye toy eh? The 40 dollar difference is justifiable how if I never plan to use it? I would rather not pay for an accessory I don't care about than 100 bucks extra for an over glorified web cam. 40 dollars isn't justifiable when I don't feel 100 dollars is mandatory for it. First he addresses the hardware comparison between the consoles and speaks about how the games define the market. Sony did the right thing showing the games and support they plan for their console for the job it is intended to do. MS hurt themselves at their console expo and tried to redeem themselves at E3. That is unchangeable and has happened already. If they did better than Sony is a matter of opinion, but I don't see Sony going back on their policies they announced.
Comparing hardware is meaningless? I'll give you that one. But why are you charging 100 bucks more if the hardware is the same then? You are basically charging people 100 bucks more for kinect while the eye-toy is 60 bucks and forcing it onto players. Sure, there is the minority that doesn't mind or is in favor of the kinect, but for everyone else I don't think it will be useful. You talk about games and content being the cornerstone of success, but your expos spoke more about multimedia features and talking about talking to your console. I'm confused at your logic. Do you not understand what self-defeat is? That old "exclusives" argument is old. So called "gamers" buy into that exclusive shit and do not really pay attention to what it really is. A marketing plan.
At least they are telling you that they are reselling you the same febrezed up assets a head of time. DLC is just a way to milk consumers and it really sucks. I just don't see why they waste time with the single player when they should just make it a stand alone multi-player game since most, if not all DLC is for multi-player. Hell, I had COD4 for about 2 years before I touched the single player campaign. And that's only because my internet dropped.
Seth Rogen? What Michael Bay was busy? Uncharted is a great game and a movie adaptation might not do well. It is unique all it's own and like Goldberg so proudly put it, it would just be Indiana Jones. Which is sad to begin with that they Hollywood really is lacking that much originality that they can't make a movie about treasure that wouldn't emulate Indiana Jones.
I bought the 600$ PS3 when it came out. I had no complaints. Money isn't an issue for me. It will be for some people though, but not that big to make everyone buy a Ps4 over an Xbone. Most people didn't buy a PS3 because they said it didn't have enough "games" for the price. And when it had enough games, it didn't have enough "exclusives". People are going to find excuses, no matter how illogical, to buy or not buy something. Ps3 struggled because the Ps3 was to expensive for Sony to make a profit on the ones they did sell and that hurt more then the lack of total sales because they had to keep the price tag high to help offset the losses. There is a range of acceptable losses when selling a console, and the Ps3's was just too large at the time of its release. Sony is doing it right this time and not taking a big hit on each Ps4 sold and keeping production cost low to not suffer hits like they did last generation. That will be the reason they succeed this generation. Microsoft isn't loosing with a 500$ price tag because I'm pretty sure they aren't taking huge losses on the console sold. What is the point of selling 1 million consoles if you're losing so much money with each one sold? PS4 may sell more simply because it's 100 bucks cheaper, but Xbone isn't going to be knocked out in the first year of it's release.
