Sonic Games from best to worst: The Official Order

I was on SpikyBlueHero's blog earlier and he made a cryptic post about which Sonic game was best and how he didn't think anyone would agree with his choice. Lucky, I'm here to take all the guessing out of it! Using a scientific formula (maybe) I've ranked the Sonic games in order of awesome, starting with the best.

Of course when it comes to Sonic, being the 5th best Sonic game still makes it the 5th best game ever. Use this image on forums and blogs to settle any debate that arises!

sonic ranking

Guess the bottom line is that Sonic Heroes and Sonic "Next-Gen" suck. I feel a bit dirty for including Shadow, to be honest.

...ok... after I finished the image and closed Photoshop I realised I forgot Sonic Rush! It is better than Sonic Adventure 2, but not better than Sonic the Hedgehog. I didn't forget the Sonic Advance games: they are rubbish.

Geometry Wars 2: Quite fun, I suppose

I think this says it all, really. If you can beat 102 million in Pacifism I'll buy you a pint.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, this score card updates every day. Post your own and we'll make a competition out of it!

Braid'd

Downloaded Braid today... expensive, but I couldn't resist.

There's one question after playing half an hour of Braid... how can people seriously advocate the PS3 as a console choice when ABSOLUTELY ****ING AMAZING games like Braid get released on XBLA every week? Talk about Summer of Live! Last week it was Geometry Wars 2, this week Braid, next week Bionic Commando, then Galaga Legends (not really bothered about that one) and the long-awaited Castle Crashers at the end of the month.

It's not too late to trade your MGS... I mean, PS3 in for a 360!

...oh yeah, and download Braid. Best tenner you'll ever spend.

Return to City 17

When I loaded Half-Life 2 on my old laptop a couple of years ago, I thought it was awesome. Juddering, screen-tearing, slow-down plagued awesome, but awesome nevertheless. Then when I picked up the Orange Box for 360 the love affair began all over again- this is the way it was meant to be played! ...or so I thought.

One of the fun things about getting a new computer is taking the games that used to work pretty slowly on your old computer and cranking the settings up. Unreal Tournament 2004 never slows down with everything up full, and it's the same situation with Far Cry (although it has become apparent to me that Far Cry is... a bit crap, but that's a story for another day!)

Half-Life 2 with full settings on the Macbook Pro is a revelation. Silky smooth and combined with my new mouse it's easily as good as on the 360. However, plug the Macbook into my Dad's 46" HDTV and HL2 looks simply incredible! I have downloaded the UT3 demo and will probably try out Crysis later just to see how far I can push the Macbook. I'm nearly sure it has limits... probably.

Game #300

Couldn't resist buying a new game to show off the power of my new Macbook Pro... That game is Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars! Picked it up for £20 in GAME- not the cheapest, but I am a big C&C fan and have been waiting to play this ever since I had a go at the 360 version. Unless Halo Wars offers something truly spectacular, RTSs just don't work on a console. Period.

On the downside, I now have to reboot into Windows Vista which is an absolute clunker of an operating system compared to OS X. I'll probably write a full comparison soon! I haven't got anything better to do =P

Enter Katana

My new Macbook Pro finally arrived today and what a wonderful piece of kit it is! I've called it Katana- because it is metal, shiny and sharp. ;) I haven't installed Windows Vista on it yet (probably a good thing, to be honest) and I'll leave that for tomorrow. In the meantime I'm downloading MSN Messenger and Last.fm. Mac OS X takes a bit of getting used to when you've been using crappy old Windows XP, but it's hard to argue with a machine that has a whisper-quiet backlit keyboard and a screen this bright.

Anyone played MGS4? The laptop Otacon uses... that's my laptop. Rock on.
