I have never suggested that a country shouldn't have a military force. Using force to collect money to fund the military does nothing to protect rights. For such an act to occur, there can be no legally recognized property rights among private citizens, as the government (and only the government) has the legal right to take whatever it wants from whoever it wants. In such a situation, property for private citizens in merely a privilege rather than a right. Something cannot protect people's rights if it necessitates there being no rights to protect.DroidPhysX
So how do you propose to fund the military without taxes?

Donations obv.

Nah bro. We can just pray the wars away.

Burning people alive is never a force for good.

To be fair, science has it's own share of atrocities. It's not like the Atom Bomb dropped lollipops and puppies over Hiroshima.

I have Charter's 100 mbps plan, as they are the only ISP in my area. For $90 it's a bit steep, but since I don't ever plan on bundling cable/phone (Which would be the same price, only with 30 mbps) I deal with it.

I'm just curious OT. If this was the same person driving but instead of texting, he's tired and sleepy for whatever reason (lets say he is coming back from work or school and needs to head home), and he gets into an accident that causes the death of another person, should he be charged with vehicular manslaughter?

Or instead, lets say this person is distracted by the noise of his/her children in the back and gets into an accident as well, causing the death of another person, should he/she be charged as well?

Truth is, people do a lot of stupid things when they drive. I've seen people drive while shaving, I drove while eating a snack, and don't deny that any of you drive while doing something else because the truth is, anything such as changing the radio station to looking back can be considered a distraction.

What happened was an accident. Sh*t happens and people do stupid things all the time but texting and driving is part of a long list of distractions that seems to get the spotlight in these types of stories.

leviathan91

Sh*t does happen, but it doesn't mean we don't have to deal with the consequences of our actions. Texting while driving personally scares me - so before I got my new car, i only looked at my phone while at stop lights. The thought of not looking at the road is terrifying - I barely like trying to navigate the massive list of XM radio stations while driving, so most days I simply deal with whatever station is on rather than fiddle with it while driving. I do occassionally have a snack while driving, but eating a snack in no way takes my eyes off the road.

But regardless, 2 years is a pretty light sentence for vehicular manslaughter. As the driver, you are 100% responsible for whatever happens while you are behind the wheel of your car. If you think that's asking too much, take public transit or get a bike - I've done both until it got cold out and will likely do so again once it begins to warm.

EDIT: Friggin dog jumped on the keyboard

Why don't we put university grads in a different tax bracket as well? After all no one is stopping people from going to university!

Storm_Marine

Because that adds another layer of complexity to the system likely without increasing the benefit. College grads already fit into the system - changing it would simply costs resources the government obviously doesn't have currently.

Expanding marriage rights to gay couples, on the other hand, is much easier as they'd simply be included under the already established laws.

No, you are a bigot. A bigot is someone who is utterly intolerant of another's creed, beliefs or opinions. Homosexuality is not a creed, belief or opinion. It is a degenerate lifestyle. A religion is a creed. Being intolerant of a lifestyle is not bigotry. Therefor, by definition, you are a bigot, not me. jcknapier711

It's quite hard to define someone's lifestyle without defining their creed, beliefs and opinion. So, it could be argued that you are a bigot, and one with poor reasoning/verbal skills to boot.

Just finished a mostly stealth/ no kill playthrough (Apaprently I killed a few people somehow during some missions, but no sweat off my back). First playthough was great fun, and toward the end of the game I practically became a whisper in the wind as far the AI goes.

Mechanic wise the game is great, but the world never really sucked me in. There seems to be a lot of unexplored backstory, like
The role of the Outsider in the world, Daub and his gang of assassins, Granny Rags, the uncharted land of Pandyssia, the impact of relying greatly on whale fat to provide nearly everything in society, not to mention the other nations that make up the Isles
The universe Arkane has created seems massive, and yet the story barely even touched on any of this. Good news is it seems like there's plenty of room for sequels.

For some reason I was expecting a bit more in turns of talents. I just finished the first mission and already grabbed nearly everything I want (Blink, Dark Vision, Level I Possession, and Level I Agility).

Besides level 2 Agility, the only then I may want is the Time Altering one, but considering it's high mana costs, I doubt I'd use it much. The only reason I grabbed possession is to access a secret room I otherwise wouldn't have been able to.

Besides that though, loving it. It'll be fun to do a second playthrough, sans powers and with more lethality.

Preordered it this morning. Cheapest I could find it for was $45 over at GreenManGaming, if anyone is interested in preordering it as well.
