White noise 2....a bit disappointing

I finished watching White noise 2 on DVD last night. It started out with some good ideas, and some creepy moments, but wound up trying to do too much to explain the story at the end, and as a result, fell apart. It was worth watching, but it wasn't any better than the first one, which was also disappointing. I give it 3 stars out of 5.

I finally got a Playstation 2!

I know, I know, I must be the last gamer on earth that didn't have a PS2 yet. There were many reasons to get a PS2, but the tipping point for me wasGod of War 2. There are about 30-40 games that I want for the PS2 that Icouldn't get for the Xbox. Some people also may say "Why not get the PS3 instead?" I still have an Xbox 360 in my sights, and there was no reason for me to get a PS3 as well. The only exclusive PS3 games on the horizon that I would wantis God of War 3 (I am not a Metal Gear SolidFan). I cant believe how small it is, it is barely larger than my hand (I have big hands). This weekend, I plan to go to Gamestop to get a fewcheap used games, and a new memory card.

Hopelessly addicted to Puzzle Quest

I just got Puzzle quest used for the PSP for $17.00, and have been playing it quite a bit. This game is great for someone who already loves the gameplay of Bejeweled 2.The gameplay is very deep, and I can see myself playing this one for a very long time to come. The PSP is keeping me happy in continuing my gaming fix, as it currently has quite a few good games out at great prices (especially used)while I continue to save funds for my next console. Next year looks very bright with GOW and the Wipeout sequel. Maybe I can hold off a bit longer than I thought. Part of my time that was previously devoted to gaming time has been spent watching movies, as I also am loving my Blockbuster online subscription. ('The Fountain' was awful, btw).

Am I a casual or hardcore gamer? I'm in the squishy middle.

I constantly see articles in which companies are all trying to appeal to the "casual gamer" audience. I don't know what defines a casual gamer. Is it someone who plays a few games, and then stops playing for weeks or months?I'm not sure what a casual gamer is, but I know that I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore gamer anymore.

I haven't purchased a game systemon launch day since the Dreamcast on 09/09/1999. I rarely get games as soon as they come out anymore. I have yet to purchase any of the latest generation of consoles (unless you consider my purchase of the PSP). I often play everyday puzzle games on the computer, like Bejeweled 2and Bookworm. I guess as I get older, I may gravitate to be considered a casual gamer. I have been playing games since the days of Pong, so I may be getting a bit of console fatigue as I get older.

I will soon purchase an Xbox 360 (probably next month), now that the price has dropped, and the system is solving the technical issues it had. However, as I think about the games I want to get, most of them are on XBOX live arcade. I am interested in Bejeweled 2, Geometry wars, UNO, Yie Ar Kung Fu, and the newly announced REZ. Don't get me wrong, I am interested in the retail games as well, such as the latest wrestling game and PGR 4, but I find myself more excited about the smaller games. It may seem somewhat silly towant a system that is $300 + for mostly casual games, but that is where I find myself. Label me as you wish!

The Green ring of death

After about 5 years, my original Xbox is finally on its deathbed. I say deathbed because it is technically still "alive", but will cut off after playing for only a few minutes. At this point I don't think that it is worth getting another used xbox, which would run for about $80 or so. I eventually will get an Xbox 360 as a replacement, and live without the games that are currently not BC.

I am not rushing out to get one, however; given the problems of thecurrent Xbox 360 is experiencing. I will patiently wait for them to iron things out (and a price cut). Microsoft says "Jump in", but I'll wait until the sharks have left the area first thank you very much. Part of the other reason I haven't jumped on the Xbox 360 ship yet has nothing to do with the Xbox 360 issues, but partial anger at Microsoft ditching the original xbox too early.

In the meantime, I plan on more heavily supporting my PSP, which have a few gems coming and already out.I just got Fight Night Round 3 for the PSP. I must say that it is a great game, and quite enjoyable. I believe that PSP still has the potential to conquer the world, if they just focused on it a bit more. I am also still considering getting a PS2, which definitely has proven itself to be worthy of purchase. It is pretty much an impulse purchase at this point. I predict there will be a flood of price drops coming this fall, including drops for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PSP. (The Wii and Nintendo DS may drop, butare hot enough sellers not to really need to right now.)

R.I.P my faithful Xbox. Its been a good run....

A dillema of sorts

I am in the process of completing my xbox collection, since the games are all dirt cheap now.   I just picked up Gun, DOA Ultimate, and Fable: Lost Chapters for under $30 combined.   Completing my collection is starting to bring up other issues, however.   I am torn between getting the dirt cheap xbox version, a similar quality PSP version, or an enhanced Xbox 360 version (when I finally get one).    So far, I have refrained from getting PSP versions of the same game I can get much cheaper on the Xbox.  I usually only get PSP games when I know I will be away for a few days.   However,  going forward, I may change course.     I feel good about the Gun purchase for Xbox, since the XBOX 360 version is really not much better at all from what I hear, and the PSP version is nothing special either.   I really prefer getting the games that make the original Xbox sweat vs.  XBOX 360 games that don't push it that hard.

Revisited Games/Random thoughts.

I have recently revisited some games that I have had for a while, and advanced further in them as a result.  I have been playing wipeout pure more often, in anticipation of the sequel.   I have unlocked some new tracks and tournaments.   I haven't even downloaded that much content yet.   I am going to be doing this, along with getting some older games used for cheap.   I just got Jade Empire, GTA Vice City, and Area 51 for about $24 combined.   I figue I have about 30-40 games on the original Xbox that I still want to get, before I jump into the new current consoles.  I have a lot of catching up to do.  I don't even have Halo 2 yet, and Halo 3 is coming out in a few months.   I like to play games in order.  I only buy sequels if I have defeated the previous version.   (in most cases).     This was especially helpful when I bought Max Payne 2 (I had already beaten Max Payne 1 several times.)   There were several references to the previous game that were made more enjoyable if you had played the previous versoin.   I am thinking about geting a PS2 this year, to hold me off until Microsoft gets its act together on the Xbox 360 (starting with a price drop of the premium package).    I have cut down on eating out so I can get some of these older Xbox original games.    PS2 has proven itself to be a worthy purchase for me.   I thought for years,  why get a PS2 when I can get most of the same games on the Xbox.   However,  too many titles over the years have been released only on the PS2 or in conjunction with another system that I do not have (for example, RE4 only came out for the Gamecube and PS2, neither of which I have).     Games I want for the PS2 when I get it include (RE4, Ratchet and Clank series, Jak and Daxter series, Viewtiful Joe series,  Darkstalkers collection, VF4 evolution,  Tekken 5, God of War Series, Shadow of Collosus, Dark Cloud 2, Maximo series,  MGS series, Soul Calibur III, Okami, Contra, Silent Hill 3....this list goes on and on.   I want to live in my Xbox world, but start also playing in the PS2 world.

The Prestige: A great movie!!

I didn't pay any attention to this movie when it came out last fall, but I should have.   This is a great movie with a ton of "twists"   I have to watch it again just to see if I can catch what I missed.

Finally purchased a PSP!!!!

After saving up for a long time, and waiting for a price drop + a free game, I have purchased a PSP and several games.   I absolutely love it so far, and haven't even used all of the features yet (music, movies, wireless gaming, etc.)  I purchased 3 games for it:  Tekken, Raw vs. Smackdown, and Wipeout Pure.  I love all three games.  The screen is gorgeous.  So far my complaints are minor.  One, the speakers for the system are weak, but sound much better with headphones.  Two, the loading times for the games are pretty long, but I can deal with it.  I am awaiting my free Hotshots golf in the mail as I write this.
I decided to get a 512MB memory card for now, and will probably get a 4 GB card in the future for more heavy duty  media  (movies/video, MP3).
