finalizing my PSP collection

I love the end of a console generation. Last year I made the decision to purchase my 3rd PSP system (I'll take better care of this one, I promise!), even though the PS Vita was only weeks away from release. 10 months later, I am glad that I stuck with my decision, as the PS Vita has little that I want, and at very expensive prices. PSP on the other hand has great games at $10-20 a piece. My most wanted list for the PSP is included below (including PS1 games).

Def jam fight for NEw York the takeover
burnoutlegends
manhunt 2
chrono trigger
chrono cross
locoroco 1 and 2
pappapa the rapper
gta vice city stories
gta chinatown
tomb raider legend and aniversary
rock band unplugged
gun
gradius collection
capcom collection 2
genesis collection (again)
activision collection
EA games genesis best of collection (ea replay)

Completing this list will take me at least a year or two, keeping me entertained for many years. Although, the PS Vita is everything I ever wanted in a portable, I am still happy with the level of graphics that the PSP is capable of. So my purchase of the PS Vita is several years off (if it is still around then).

why do we still have to pay for xbox live?

I got a PS3 in 2007 and an Xbox 360 in 2008. In 2007, PSN was a far cry from Xbox live, with limited content. Fast forward to 2011/2012, and PSN has completely caught up in content with Xbox live. The connections are good. The only thing missing is that PSN doesn't have a way to report people who behave badly (ie quit early when they are getting beat down). Of course, EA sports games do this, because EA demands it, but this needs to happen for all PSN games. But I digress.... $60 a year would be fine if PSN did not exist for free. Why not have a free version of xbox live that forces you to watch a 30 second ads prior to starting a session? I know that Microsoft is trying to "value add" to the gold membership with things like ESPN, but its not enough for me.

where is the online innovation?

OK, Xbox live and PSN have been around for a while now. Both have evolved into quite impressive services. My question is, when are we going to see some of the truly innovative stuff that can be done online? Im talking about people playing on Xbox live, interacting with people on their cell phones. I'm talking about people playing on PS3 along with people playing on their PSP's online (like the PS3 gamers can be the shooters, and the PSP people can be the medics, etc). Also, where are the MMORPG's? The time has come for these and more innovations. I hope we can see them before the next wave of consoles hit.

Bejeweled 2 on Xbox and PS3, which versiondo I think is better?

Bejeweled 2 is one of those incredibly addicting games, that I had to buy it for the PS3. I already had the xbox 360 version for the past 6 months.

Which version do I think is better? Let me break it down:

Graphics: Winner Xbox 360.(Please note, this is based ononly playing both on a SDTV). The graphics on theXbox version appear to bebrighter, with a bit more pop to the colors. The PS3 version looks a bit washed out in comparison. Otherwise they are identical.

Sound: Winner Xbox 360. To my knowledge, only theXBOX 360version allows you to stream your own music from your hard drive or MP3 player. This is a big plus. Otherwisethe sound is the same.

Control: Winner PS3. The Dpad on the PS3 works much better than the DPAd on the Xbox 360. This provide for much better control. This is especially important if you are playing the action mode.

Achievements vs Trophies: Winner PS3. The PS3 trophies are much easier to obtain, while the Xbox 360 versionachievements aretoo difficult. This must have been realized when implementing the PS3 version.

tie breaker: PS3 remote play on PSP. Playing bejeweled 2 on the PSP thru remote play works great! The control is good on PSP, except for the occasional lag.

Overall winner: PS3 version. The PS3wins in themost important categories of control and trophies. The PS3 remote play to PSPput it over the top. I still play my Xbox 360 version, mostly because I have only unlocked one achievement, and I would like to unlock more.

quick movie reviews Eagle Eye, Frost/Nixon, Quantum of Solace + 1 More

Here are some quick reviews of movierentals that I have seen lately.

Eagle Eye: This one was great! Great action and suspense. I like how the movie is paced. This one has elements of enemy of the state and die hard 4, among others. (saying more would reveal too much). Four and a half stars out of five.

Frost/Nixon - This was like watching a political boxing match, complete with the training. This one had some great deleted scenes as well. A bit slow paced though at first, but to be expected given the subject matter. Great job in portraying the 70's stylings of clothing and hair for the time. 3 and a half stars out of five

Quatum of Solace: This was not your typical Bond movie. In fact, Bond gets beat up quitea bit in this one. good action from the first minute. four stars out of five.

The day the earth stood still. This one was pretty good. Good special effects, and a nice modern day twist to the original. Good acting by Jaden Smith. Keanu always does well as playing someone with extraordinary powers. 3 and a half stars out of five.

Recently got an IPOD touch

I am currently charging my newly obtained IPOD Touch 16GB.

I am enraptured by its beauty and function . Its widescreen rivals the PSP, to a small extent.

I am somewhat curious about its gaming potential.

I needed something to hold all of my music. (I am not a music junkie, so 16GB is more than enough.)

The Wi-FI works flawlessly. (I still like my Ipod shuffle for my workouts though, theclip on thatis cool).

life is good.

memories of EGM magazine

EGM magazine was not my first video game magazine (that honor goes to Electronic games), nor was it my all time favorite (That honor goes to Diehard gamefan magazine), but it was influential. I have bought it on and off continuously for the past 20 years (my first issue that I purchased was issue #6). I remeber fondly how much the magazine gushed over my beloved Ggenesis the first 2 years that it was out, and I watched in horror as they heavily favored the SNES after that. I stopped subscribing to the magazine after its longtime obvious SNES favoritism (one example is when they ignored Genesis 10 year anniversary completely, and had an entire article dedicated to the SNES 10 year anniversary, but I digress. This bias repeated itself with the PS1 bias over the saturn. What I remember the most from EGM was its yearly awards. It was the first videogame magaize that I can remember ithat had yearly awards, and everyone has copied the format since (including Gamespot)

Finally got an XBOX 360!

I now have an xbox 360, and I am very happy with it! Graphically, I can't tell the difference betwwen xbox 360 and PS3. As I expected, the xbox live component destroys the PSN network and it's catalog (for now). Having said that, I have yet to download the Home software for the PS3.

Hardware wise, I still like my PS3 for the PSP interaction, built in wi-fi (lets face it, all devices should have wi fi built in now), and blu-ray standad, but in the end, its all about the games, and Xbox has them.

I got a handful of xbox live and retail games, (smackdown vs raw 2009, and Mass effect which I am enjoying. I really like the ablity to purchase episodes of shows. Previously, I had done this on Itunes and Amazon, but it works great watching them on my TV through the Xbox.

Loving the PSP remote play function.

I just recently learned that I could play my PS1 games remotely on my PSP through my PS3. I finished playing Wipeout XL and Smackdown. Wipout Xl is a bit difficult to control, but looks pretty good. Smackdown looks ok, and also plays very welll

Again, this is another feature that does not get the hype that it deserves. Very cool!

I previously thought that the PS1 games were only playable on PSP by downloading

the game from the PS3. I am glad to find out that I can just put the PS1 game in my PS3 , and select the remote play opption.

the hype that it deserves. I like how having the virtual memory card on thee PS3 allows me to save the games.

The next game PS1 games I am going to try on my PSP is Final Fantasy VIII.

Quick movie reviews

I saw some movies on DVD over the past 2 weeks. Here is my rundown of what to see and what to avoid.

The Incredible Hulk 2008 is was a great movie! Good special effects, and great brawling scenes with the US Army and the Abomination. Good acting all around. 4 out of 5 stars.

The Happening - Avoid this one. The acting was unbelievably bad from everyone. The story was also disappointing, and the scenes were disturblingly violent (this is coming from someone who usually enjoys violent movies.) It seems M. Nights movies are continuing a downward spiral of quality. 2 stars out of five.

Casino Royale. A great movie, showing the beginning rough around the edges Bond was appealing. Great stunt scenes make this movie for me. 4 out of 5 stars.

The Forbidden Kingdom: A great action movie. The fight scene between Jet Li and Jackie Chan is worth the price of admission alone. 4 out of 5 stars.
