I purchased this game before it was released all the way back in Oct. played in the Alpha, which not surprising, played like an Alpha build. For 2 weeks the devs then claimed it was in Beta after absolutely no changes being made to the game and then finally the;y officially released the "Foundation Release" in mid Dec.
Nothing had changed since alpha besides very small updates! None of the features that were promised, terrible bugs, horrible optimization, and rampant hacking problems.
I filed a chargeback claim with my bank the day of the "foundation release" under fraud and after 24hrs of their own research to verify my claim they completely reimbursed me without question. My bank looked into Hammerpoint and The War Z and found after one work day that they were defrauding buyers with outright lies and general deception.
If you bought this game and think it is too late to get your money back, it's not, there are still option available to you! Even after 4+ months you should still be able to take back the money that Hammerpoint conned you out of.
Wow, I think it is awesome that the reviewer finds the time to come in here and discuss/clarify her review. Good for you Carolyn. It really adds another facet to the review provides further context if required.
Caro, I in no way deny absolution in the theory that women are underrepresented in the gaming industry due to disinterest. My own anecdotal evidence speaks to the contrary of your claim, which is just as compelling as others' anecdotal evidence as I've yet to see an official study on the matter, including Ms. Hernandez's own observation.
I grew up with 4 sisters and 3 brothers, attending high school and college never once feeling encouraged to participate in the male-dominated gaming industry but never once witnessing any females discouraged from subscribing except by their own volition.
In the previous article you brought up the societal discouragement toward women from a very young age to not apply themselves toward the sciences and as a result, you'd say, is the leading factor why physical sciences and mathematics are sparsely populated by women. What do either of those have to do with the gaming industry which only in the past 2 decades has really come into form? I submit that even if there is still a societal stigma on female careers in physical sciences, believing that translates to the gaming industry is absurd.
When you look at the other sciences (biology, family and child development, etc) you'll see no such disparity, why? My wife is currently in Veterinary School where her class comprised of 65 students has only 4 males! But women are discouraged from the sciences?
We saw the PS4 game footage Bioware, we already know the graphical leap is not where near as impressive as previous gens. Game on PC if you want to eventually see the graphical leap we deserve.
Did the reviewer's political prejudices affect this review? After her last article I remain skeptical on whether she can make a fair evaluation of Tomb Raider game based off of her biased comments about the franchise in that editorial and comments section.
Not saying this review IS tainted, just after conversing with Carolyn herself in her "Fear of a Woman Warrior" article and hearing her unfounded logic on the plight of young women (which I'm sure she has little experience in as society hasn't treated her as a young woman most of her life) I have my doubts.
Regardless, thanks for the review. I will definitely be picking this up on PC unless my latent male-driven fear of a strong female protagonist kicks in and the intrinsic sexist center of my brain tells me to shun it. =)
Do you think it is because they know that the gaming industry is just a bunch of sexist men and are afraid they will be discriminated against when they get into the field? Probably not.
