Alienware M17

I eagerly awaited the FedEx man today anticipating the arrival of my new Alienware M17 "desktop replacement" laptop. It finally came in and I was so excited! I could hardly sign for it. I carefully opened it and removed and inspected everything. Its a pretty nice looking laptop and the 17" screen is very luxurious. Speedwise its very fast in terms of running Windows Vista 32bit and doing the general computing that I'm doing on it right now. I started playing with some of the features like using Alienwares Facial Recognition software and the built in web cam to log into windows and using the finger print reader to not only log into windows but also log into websites like gamespot, dslreports, yahoo!, and even my college! How cool is that!? The illuminated keyboard is very nice and I can switch the color from blue, red, green, or off. I haven't played any games on it yet but I'm downloading everything in my Steam account right now! I'll get more in depth with it later and post a proper review by Sunday.

The specs for this beast are as follows...

Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4Ghz
2GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory (yes DDR3 not 2 :) )
Crossfire Enabled ATi HD 3870's (yes 2 of them!)
250GB SATA 7200RPM HDD
17" screen (1440x900)
illuminated keyboard
2.0 Megapixel webcam
Fingerprint reader
Memory card reader
HDMI port
Windows Vista 32bit SP1
and a few other goodies :)

I'm back.

A few months ago, soon after I purchased my iMac. I decided to "quit" gaming. Why I would do such a foolish thing, I don't know. Gaming has been my entire life. I used the excuse that I didn't have time for it anymore. However soon after I found myself sitting idle, not doing anything at all! At the same time I had a very special friend from work encourage me to look at getting back into school and earn a degree and move on. He wants to see me succeed and do something with my life that I love.

I had always pondered how people were able to do something they actually loved with their lives. Is this something everyone gets to do? How does one go about achieving this? I didn't know what I was looking for, or where to begin. When I'd think about all my interests, I often overlooked the one and only passion thats been with me for my entire life. That passion is gaming. The few times I did think of gaming as a career I thought it wouldn't be possible for me to do.

My friend and I were driving around the city we work in one day coming back from a Holiday Party when we drove passed a DeVry University building. He saw it and mentioned to me how thats where he graduated from and that I should check into it. I looked on their website and with his help, found a degree in Game and Simulation Programming. As soon as I saw it, I knew thats what I had to do.

I signed up soon after that and know my classes start very soon. I'll be working very hard for about 3 years and in the end I'll get my Bachelors degree in Game and Simulation Programming! After that I'm going to pursue a job in the gaming industry or possibly start my own company.

Of course when taking a course on gaming you need something that can game, and this iMac isn't going to cut it. So, a few days ago I ordered a brand spanking new Alienware M17. With a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Dual 512Mb Radeon HD 3870's and 2GB's of DDR3 Ram. I'm very excited and I can't wait till that gets here so I can start working hard and playing hard!

With the good comes the bad however. In just 3 days, my very best friend of 11 years (out of my 20) will be moving to another state. She's hoping to make progress in life and make something of herself, and she feels this cannot be achieved here. I'll miss her very much, but if it makes her life better then that's what I want for her. I'm happy that at least I can sit back and know that both of us are trying to improve our lives and make it.

Now that I'm officially back into gaming, after my 5 or 6 month break, I'm happy I'll be here on a daily basis to keep up on gaming, for my future career and my present entertainment!

It's here. The Apple iMac (20")

Thats right! I've been through with PC Gaming for a few months now and was doing just fine using my Xbox 360. However after Microsofts depressing E3 08 Press Conference I decided I needed to own a Playstation 3 instead. I sold the Xbox 360 and havent looked back since. Though I'm holding out for a little bit to get the PS3.

I've been upgrading my digital lifestyle products one at a time. First ditching PC Gaming, then the 360, then losing the Moto Q running Windows Mobile 5 and getting the iPhone 3G, and finally the newest edition...my 2.4ghz iMac!

I've tried to get away from Windows for a while now though every attempt made is met with failure. I've tried Linux about three times. Each time there was something that held me back until I had to move back to windows. First their was no wireless support, then a lack of other drivers, then i couldn't use iTunes, which I need for my iPhone. I knew I had to make drastic changes.

I decided then it was time to make the ultimate switch. There was no going back . I researched the iMac and picked out which was right for me. After I found it, I made my move.

So far I'm very very happy with my iMac and Apple is proving to be a very solid and respectable company with terrific computers!

So someones like, "hey ty, how about MS's e3 conference?!"

Hmm, I thought I was awful. So awful in fact I sold my Xbox 360 a few days and later and I'm buying a PS3 next week. All the game demos they showed are of games that you can play on the PS3 anyway. The presentation was blend and not exciting at all (ie lights, music, overall presentation, etc) The new dashboard looks very akward. The Avater system is a worse then the idea of having Mii's and is in NO competition compared Playstation Home.

Overall I'm just dissapointed with Microsoft and 360. I thought I choose a winner this gen. Im sick of paying to have 12 year old kids call me names and whoop my ass online. I'd rather get that for free so if I stop playing a game online it wont feel like a waste. I'm afraid everytime I turn my 360 on its going to RROD. Im ashamed I actually spent that much money on a console and then some more on a wireless adapter and then some more on rechargable batteries, etc, etc, etc. The HDD is to small and right out of the box almost half of its used up!

So Microsofts hardware sucks and people are starting to realize that. PS3 sales are up, Wii sales will suprass 360, that sort of thing. But what about software? Theyve got good titles right? Wrong. Nothing exclusive worth playing, dare I say GOW2 doesnt look like fun. There was a time I hopped onto the "GOW is teh bomb!" bandwagon and pretty much forced myself to play it because "it was the cool thing". Honostly the single player is boring as hell, the coop is decent, and the online matches are, like every other 360 title, overrun with immature little brats.

Even if you just have to play GOW2 even though...its just a video game...does that justify getting (or keeping) a 360? Hell no! I cant wait to get my PS3. Built in WiFi, Blu-Ray, Exclusive titles that are time tested classics (MGS4) and not fads, a console that works (no RROD), proven 10 year life span, Sixaxis and Dual Shock3, FREE online and community services, Playstation Home, and the list goes on and on and on and on and on!

See you on the other side

Great timing!

I picked the PERFECT time to ditch PC Gaming and go for an Xbox 360. So far this Xbox 360 has cost me.

  • $350.00 for Xbox 360 "Pro" Package
  • $70 for used Xbox 360 Wireless Network adapter
  • $15 for an Xbox 360 Rechargable Battery for the the Wireless Controller
  • For a grand total of....$435.00 + tax

I actually found out I could have gotten the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter for $50, so I could have gotten it for a little cheaper.

Now lets see how much its going to cost me to upgrade it every six months, (whats that?.... huh?...seriously?....ummm.....)
Ok, it seems I actually dont have to upgrade it....ever.

Alright, but how much time will I spend fixing it, installing games, tweaking settings, etc....(whAT!?.....Seriously!??!.....Ok, ok ok...)
Um...I guess I dont have to do that either...

So I guess I just...uuuuh...put the game in the tray and close it?
(wait a sec....I still owe Microsoft some money right?.....No?.....Uhhh...)

So far in the few weeks I've owned the console I've bought 12 games. Alot of them believe it or not....I got used for a lot cheaper!

And heres the kicker, when Im done playing them If I want to I can trade them back in for money!

Take that PC Gaming!

I say I picked a great time to switch because....Nvidia JUST released a "new" video card. Yet another $600+ video card thats only marginaly better then the last release, at full cost. Not that I would have bought it but if people want to keep up with PC Gaming they need some seriously deep pockets.

Keep in mind this is coming directly from a PC Gamer who has a job!

If your still playing PC Games you should do the right thing, join the club, and get an Xbox 360 or PS3!

Silly

After such a serious day its nice to know I can come home and get silly with you

Notice: To the public!

I'm just saying I'm sorry in advance.
I'm sorry I am who I am.
I'm sorry the way I am offends you.
I'm sorry you have to grind your teeth everytime you see me.
I'm sorry you have to put SO much effort into keeping me down.
Honostly this is all my fault.

But most of all........
I'm sorry you wasted your [worthless] life trying to "fix" me while I spent mine living.

Really I should be thanking you.
Thanks for caring so much! I'll see you all in hell a**holes!

:P:D;) :P:D;) :P:D;)

PS: By the time you realize none of its true, it'll be far to late!

The body lunges forward.

Defeating, Time.

May 8th 2008: Tyler is in Seans basement. Hes telling Sean about how he wants a 360 and is giving up on PC Gaming. Sean replies "So True. Lets do it."

45min 53sec later they arrive at Best Buy.

After discussing which to model to get Tyler picks up the "$350 Pro" model. Sean grabs a few games to play. The couple pays for the new system and games and then leaves.

They stop for food.

1hr 02min 36sec later they arrive home. Back in Sean's basement.

They spend the next few days having fun. All because of the $600 "Economy Stimulus Package" Tyler recieved.

Two weeks later...

Tyler-"Oh sh*t, gas is $4.00...."

The moral of the story is: Dont spend your Economy Stimulus Check on video games, Gasoline is more important.

Fear of Letting Go

Ive known him for a long time.

"I love you", "I know you do" He said. It used to be a problem. Now I think hes starting whats inside of him. Ha, or me for that matter. I think everyone has problems with this. Its not an easy thing to do.

"I wanna help you." I told him.

"I dont need help, I just need to f--kin' think" He said. "Alright, Sorry..."

I didnt feel very good about this. I just wish things were different. I keep telling myself to wait. "Things will get better, they have to."

"I gotta get my sh*t together..."

I was talking to a close friend about all this.

"I think your making a mistake." They said.

"You'll learn from from your mistakes eventually, I did."

"Yea, thanks" I told them. I was hoping they were wrong.
