I picked a 360 because I firmly believed that its selection and qualities were ideal for the core gamer. To see that my opinion is supported by worldwide sales is a good feeling....it lets me know I made the right choice.
For the Wii.....lets be honest. It has core games, but it is at its core appealing to casuals. Its great, I grew up on Nintendo, but I now just dont see it as something that can accomodate my core needs. I like good online and M rated titles. So this blog is purely for the hardcore geared consoles: the 360 and PS3.
08 has been slippery. Up until august the PS3 has been steadily closing the gap. Some people (me included) thought that MS's promise to hold out until November 2010 (estimated time of the release of the next Xbox) might be too far away to pull off.
Now, Im a happy camper.
The holidays are WAYYYY more important then the rest of the year. So while Sony may have won the non-essential months, MS is poised to win the months that really count.
The september global price drops provide such a price gap between 360 and PS3 that even Sony brainwashed loyalists from Europe and even Japan are taking notice and seeing that a 360 can play the same multiplats as PS3.....for less then half the price.
Sony's plans to release a 160 gb PS3 wont make much of an impact again....because of the $499 price. Even $399 is starting to seem a lot.....despite for what you get. Global economy uncertainty, especially in the states will favor Wii and 360 Arcades over the PS3 for sure. And the New Xbox Experience looks like a real improvement on LIVE....plus a real casual grab with the avatars and all.
And with the one chip "Valhalla" (jasper is a two chip design) set due in holiday 09, you can be sure MS will drop again to counter any 09 PS3 price drop. Looks like being #2 until the next XBox release looks like a very plausible outcome....and I couldn't be happier.
